Shop 'Til You Drop
"This dress looks beautiful with your hair, Tori." Lila said, shoving the dark blue dress into my already overflowing arms.
I was dress shopping with Lila and Madeline for Roy's party. Madeline had gotten an invite as well. Lila was going to be her date because she was between boyfriends, and apparently going alone is more strange than taking your best friend.
I was going with Ethan. As friends, friends, strictly as friends! We had been getting really close lately, every other week he took me out for ice cream when I finished tutoring Roy. Roy was improving in his studies as well, and was a focused, diligent student-except when his girlfriend dropped in on our review sessions. He didn't seem to like Ethan very much, he would always leave quickly when he saw him coming, or change the subject any time I mentioned him.
Lila held a short green dress against her chest, spinning around.
"What do you think of this one?" She asked.
Madeline nodded her approval. She was examining a red strapless dress.
"This so cute!" She said.
"Ready to go try things on?" Madeline asked.
Lila nodded and followed her into the dressing rooms.
I looked at the dresses in my arms. They were nice, but they weren't really my style. I wondered if I would be able to find the perfect dress in the rows and rows of clothes on the racks before me, stretching seemingly forever. I turned around to follow my friends into the dressing room, feeling defeated when a dress caught my eye.
The perfect dress.
Knee length, sparkling silver in the fluorescent lights of the store. It was beautiful, it was perfect, I prayed that it fit me. I pulled on it's tag. It was the last one on the rack in my size. This had to be some kind of omen.
I dumped the other dresses on a table and grabbed the silver one off the rack. I ran into the dressing rooms to try it on. It fit perfectly, swishing when I moved around, dazzling in the lights, almost as bright as the grin on my face. I couldn't wait to show it to Madeline and Lila, but more importantly, I can't wait until Roy's party.
