I'm picturing this as sort of an angry rock type thing, heavy on rhythm with next to no melody. Hey, it's an idea. A weird, muddled, philosophical idea, drawing inspiration from various revolutions (namely those in Russia, France, and China) and a little bit from the recent US election, but still, it's an idea.

Edit: Mucked about with some wording, changed "boy" to "comrade" at the end of the last verse, to tie in with the ambiguous revolution theme. Plus, it's supposed to be to/about everyone, not just guys.

Political Drift

You like to fight for what you want
But what happens when
You get what you want
You don't have a clue, don't know what to do

Seems like what you want
Is to fight for what you want
You live for the struggle
Even when the struggle's through

Knock down the barricades
They're no longer needed
Kinda hard luck when it's all that you've learned
Swear to you, swear to me
Not to be what we defeated
Watching as the tides interweave and start to merge

So now you've fought and won
Tell me, now what do you do?
You sit around and poke around
For something else to do

You can't sit on your laurels
All they do is confuse
Find a new cause to lose
Crashing down the avenue

Knock down the barricades
They're no longer needed
Kinda hard luck when it's all that you've learned
Swear to you, swear to me
Not to be what we defeated
Watching as the tides interweave and start to merge

If the underdog wins
Then he's not the underdog
Everything gets flipped
In the smoke and the fog

Once your side wins
Will you still stay true?
Whatcha gonna do, comrade
Whatcha gonna do?

Knock down the barricades
They're no longer needed
Kinda hard luck when it's all that you've learned
Swear to you, swear to me
Not to be what we defeated
Watching as we're helpless as the tides all start to merge

(guitar solo, or similar)

Howling at history
It's not locked in stone
It's written by the victor
The conqueror
Destroying force

History is written by the tyranny
And now that's you
