May you find peace, eternal,
a seclusion from your broken ways,
as you listen to the dead man singing on the radio,
and long for better days.
may you find peace at midnight,
a taming to your racing thoughts,
as your lonely hand writes poetry
pouring out your broken heart.
may your eyes shine bright forever,
and you someday from a cure,
from the beauty that forever haunts you,
the poison that makes you pure.
because you're all that i have
in the broken, shattered life
you make everything seem easier
and all that's wrong seem right.
and i hope that you know
you're the most beautiful man i have ever seen,
so simple in your honesty,
as you sing the words that mean the most to you
as you expose yourself to everyone.
and when you smile, it's like a brand new day
because for you depression's easier
than happiness to convey.
and i hope you find peace forever,
a way out of your rut,
as the rotting trees pass in a blur
out the windows of your bus.
and summer blows these faded curtains
with air that's soft and warm
and you wish for better days,
like the violence of a storm.
and these drugs you take destroy you,
because you're walking with a cane
and you turn your back on the world you know
as you try to ease your pain.
you're like a pigeon on a wire,
that's too skiddish to take flight,
a yellow bird trapped in a cage,
for you freedom is a plight.
and to obtain all that you seek
would be a task to undertake
but may someday you stop drowning,
and finally awake.
