Thank you so much to everyone who reviewed! I made a TON of changes to the prologue. I am embarrassed by all of the mistakes! Oops... Anyway, I hope you enjoy this chapter!
"Powerful Lord God, all who stay far from you will be lost, and you will destroy those who are unfaithful. It is good for me to be near you. I choose you as my protector, and I will tell about your wonderful deeds."
Kevin stared at the group and closed the Bible. Each of them was becoming weaker each day. Fishing with a stick was hard work, and their food intake had dropped dramatically. Dark circles drooped from each of their eyes.
Sarah spoke solemnly, "I don't know what we are going to do. Faith is all we have left and I fell like I'm even losing that."
Kevin stared disappointingly at her. He wanted to argue, but did not have the energy. Even he had to admit, he felt, like God had forgotten them.
"What's that noise?" Zach said interrupting Kevin's thoughts.
Everyone listened, and soon they could hear it too. There were soft footsteps coming from the forest. Everyone jumped up quickly. They were standing in a small clearing, far from a good hiding place. Only one tree stood in the opening, and everyone ran for it.
Jacob and Zach got there first and climbed up a few feet. Everyone else pressed their backs up against the tree. They all prayed silently. Aubrey watched a dark shadowy figure move stealthy from tree to tree. Tears fell down her face.
They could hear the natives whispering softly. Sarah swore they were looking directly at them. Their eyes were glued to the shadowy figures. They seemed to be instructing each other. The team waited nervously for what seemed like hours. Thankfully though, as quickly as the natives came, they were gone.
After waiting a few minutes to be sure it was safe, everyone looked at each other and smiled. Jacob and Zach came down the tree and everyone sighed a breath of relief.
"They didn't see us!" Sarah said happily.
Everyone laughed joyously and hugged each other.
Aubrey laughed, "Just when I started to think that…"
She was interrupted by Kevin, who being dragged away by a large muscular man. He had a knife at Kevin's throat and was motioning everyone to come.
