The Irresistible Four-Letter-Word
If there were ten people in a room, and they would be asked the meaning of love, you would probably get ten different answers.
True? If I try to define love, more or less, you would also have a discrete description. So before describing what love is, let us try to get into the root of it. This four-letter-word could be as complicated as mathematics.
In my opinion, we look at love for three reasons. One is in the form based on what we've seen on movies or those late night soap-operas we patiently wait for. It all starts with a girl who falls in love with a certain boy, but needs to surpass a series of trials and challenges to get the guy of her dreams. In reality though, prince charming is not always the guy we wanted to exchange vows with in church someday. Not all witches fails to get the prince and most importantly, prince charming would not always save the princess in distress.
Through this, it opened out eyes more to observe what love really is. Which now brings us to the second reason on how we define love. The experiences of other people. When you've discovered that your friend's cousin's older sister was dumped by his boyfriend after a few days with a reason that's not really valid at all makes us think twice on letting ourselves involve in its curse. "If it doesn't work on other people, it could not also work for me."
The last and probably the most common ground for defining love are our own experiences to it. Like a moth driven by curiosity and fascination, love has its ways to make us feel, how powerful its impact is, when the target is locked on us. There is no better way to describe love that on what we understand by going through it.
Unfortunately not all of us are lucky to succeed in the so called "pains of hell." It could be as mind-boggling as to understanding human beings. The definition of love could surpass the pages of Webster's Dictionary or Grolier's Encyclopedia. Love can be compared with fire, once you put yourself in it, you will always come out with burns. And those burns will forever engrave a scar in your heart.
I'll end this piece with an old saying that had been running through my mind when I wrote this essay.
"Love is an ugly terrible business practiced by fools. It'll trample your heart and leaves you bleeding in the floor. And what does it really get you in the end? Nothing but a few incredible memories you can never shake." – Little Manhattan
A.N.: Tell me what you think about love too. I'll listen. :)
