Chapter Two: "Day of the Concert"

I woke up to the shining sun, my alarm clock read nine. NINE! I got up quickly went to the restroom, brushed my teeth, combed my hair, and quickly changed. School had already started, good thing my mom left early for work. I looked around the house for Lindsey but she didn't seem to be around. She left without me. I grabbed the keys to my car and left for school. I parked near the front office, and quickly grabbed my bag.

This meant I had probably missed drill team practice first period, and now had to go to the least favorite of my classes physics.

"Hey Alex, ready for the game tonight?" one of my drill team friends, Loretta, asked.

"What? I thought it was cancelled."

"No, they announced it this morning."

"Oh, yeah." I sighed. I would be exhausted when I got home, and then there was the concert.

"Sabrina!" I screamed over the large crowd of people that were now gathering in the main entrance for their second class.

"Hey where were you?" she asked.

"Not here obviously."

"They changed you to the front of the pyramid this morning, the game is tonight." She said.

"I freaking know," I said whiningly.

"Let's go."

We hurried to class together, we had every class the same. I sat in my seat next to Ethan, and kissed him lightly on the lips.

"Hey babe where were you this morning?" he asked.

"Home, asleep. My alarm didn't go off."

"I wanted to see you dance," he said with a smile.

"Hey Alex," Leo said from behind Sabrina who sat on my other side.

"Hey, ready for tonight's game? You guys better win," I said.

"Yeah, coach has been working our ass of the whole week."

"Good," I said with a smile.

"Good morning class, today we are going to finish the lab from yesterday," the teacher went on with the instructions, after he was done Ethan and I went to our lab in front of Sabrina's.

"What were you saying earlier about me being on front?" I asked Sabrina while Ethan did the work.

He was a perfectionist when it came to doing work, so he would do most of the work and I wrote down the answers. When it came to football or any other sport he played he would also be like this, concentrated only in what he was doing.

"Oh, teacher put you up front in our featured routine so now you won't have to move a lot when we are in formation in tonight's game."

"She just did this today?"

"Yeah."

"Damn it, I'll have to learn it before the game."

"I'll help you."

"Okay."

We finished the lab and three minutes later the bell rang, this day was going by too slow. Fourth period and fifth went by fast, when lunch came around Sabrina and I would leave to McDonalds with Ethan and Leo who were by some reason always together.

I ordered a small burger and grabbed some lemonade. We sat by the window and watched the cars go by the front of the restaurant.

"Hey babe, so are you coming to the concert tonight?" Ethan asked me.

"Yeah."

"How, I thought you were grounded?"

"I'm going to sneak out," I replied.

I saw Lea and her friends at the front door; she was drill team captain and at this moment seemed really mad. She had the biggest crush on Ethan so I knew she disliked me, when I made officer her anger towards me only got bigger.

"Hello Ethan," she waved at him.

Ethan only lowered his head, he knew about this situation.

"You can say hi to her if you want," I said smiling because he hadn't.

"She's pissed cuz she wanted to be on front," Sabrina said bringing my thoughts back to the table.

"Oh, well she could have it."

"Yeah like the teacher is going to allow it."

"How you going to leave your house without your mom or the neighbors knowing?" Ethan asked.

"Um…I asked Aaron to help me out. I think he's going to the concert too," I replied hesitantly.

"Who's Aaron," Ethan's face turned serious.

"The next door neighbor," I said matter-of-factly.

"Oh, how do you know him?"

"I don't."

"Whatever."

I rolled my eyes and finished my food. It was almost time to get back to school. Ethan annoyed me at times, but we had been together for a while now and I liked his company.

Leo drove us back to school, Sabrina and him left before Ethan and I which gave Ethan time to ask me questions.

"So is he taking you to the concert?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Are you going to the concert with Aaron?"

"No he's just driving me there," I replied.

"Oh, why doesn't he drop you off at my house?"

"Because then your neighbors would see me there, and obviously they would tell my mom."

"Oh, ok."

"Are you mad?"

"NO."

"Do you prefer for me to stay home?"

"No, babe it's fine."

We walked to class together, everyone was in game spirit.

By the time our last class came around I was tired, I wouldn't be going home until ten at night after the game. I had to stay after school to finish a project and then practice my new position with Sabrina.

"Hey Lucas, ready to do this project?" I asked as I walked into the library.

"Yeah, not so thrilled."

We finished the project a little too early we both had other things to get to. I went to the gym where I knew we would have practice and dressed out in my work out clothes.

"Are you going to call your mom?" Sabrina asked.

"Yeah, hold on."

I dialed my mom's office number quickly.

"Hey mom?"

"Yeah what's up Alex?"

"We have a game today, so I'm going to stay till like ten or eleven depending where it is."

"Are you sure, I thought the game was canceled?"

"It was mom, but they just announced that it wasn't."

"If you're lying you'll be in big trouble young lady."

"Mom if you don't believe me come to the game, bye."

I hung up before she could tell my anything else.

Practice started after a while and like that I learned my new spot and the new choreography. Lea who was still mad I had taken her spot took her anger out on the team and made us do the introduction routine around fifty times in a row, which was really bad for the new girls. Our introduction routine was all about high kicks and prepping, which meant jumping a lot, the song lasted around two to three minutes; imagine that fifty times in a row. By the time it was almost game time everyone was exhausted and pissed at Lea, she was the only one who didn't do all fifty, and her excuse was that she was looking for people with low kicks and not so low splits.

We quickly changed into our uniforms and put on our makeup. Our bus left in thirty minutes and Lea had taken half of our time to change. When we got on the bus Sabrina was still doing her makeup and putting her hair right under her hat. I had totally forgotten who we were playing this week.

We arrived at the school it was pretty big and we would be facing south when we preformed in half time. Everything went well the girls were great even the ones who hadn't been on drill team last year. When it came time for our performance I was so excited Ethan would be watching me. Sabrina and I stepped off of our formation to make sure girls weren't acting up or talking.

When we stepped onto the field everything and everyone went away, the only thing I could see and hear was darkness, my heartbeat and the music playing. I could only visualize myself on the field. Dance was what I loved and performing was part of it. After our half time we walked of the field and everything went back to normal, I ran for my flag for my performance with the band. Sabrina and I had joined their color guard before the summer. Everything went well for our third game of the season.

After the game we went to our home school, I was already falling asleep when the bus stopped. We got to the school and then I drove Sabrina home and then went home myself, before Sabrina got off she said.

"I'll meet you in the entrance of the concert."

I nodded and smiled, tonight should be fun.

I got home took a quick shower and dressed for bed, I had to make sure my mom believed I was going to sleep. I went downstairs and watched TV for five minutes my mother was still up in the kitchen.

"Good night mom," I said.

"Night honey how was the game?"

"Great, we won."

"That's good, sorry I didn't believe you this afternoon," she apologized.

"It's okay," I said feeling bad I was lying to her about the concert. Which wasn't technically lying, I was just keeping the truth from her.

I went up to my room and laid on my bed for a while, when the clock read eleven thirty I got up and started dressing. I put on some makeup and the dress. I left the heels on my bed I didn't want to fall when I got of through the balcony. Exactly thirty minutes later I heard the sound of rocks hitting my window. I grabbed my purse and shoes and rushed to the balcony. When I was outside I heard Aaron under it.

"Where are you?" I whispered.

"Down here, you're going to have to jump of," he whispered back.

"No."

"I'll catch you," he said.

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because I want my whole body to go the concert not only half."

"I'll catch you."

I thought about it for a minute, when I heard a sound I quickly threw both feet over the rails and said, "Catch me."

I landed on Aarons arms, miraculously. I felt my dress go up a little and felt a bit uncomfortable.

"Um…mind putting me down," I said after a while of Aaron holding me.

"Oh sorry," he said putting me down.

"Let's go."

We rushed to his car, he opened the door for me and we were off to the concert. I looked back to my house and saw Lindsey on her balcony looking out to the Aaron's car.

"I think my sister saw."

"I thought she knew."

"No, did you tell her?"

"No, but I saw her looking out her window the whole time."

"Oh."

"Even yesterday when you asked me for the favor."

"She was," I said more to myself.

Lindsey hadn't said anything to me. We rode in silence to the concert when we got there it was already full. We got to the entrance and for a moment I thought he was just going to leave me there alone.

"Are you going to look for Sabrina?" Aaron asked.

"Yeah I can't see her."

"We can look together; I'm also looking for someone."

"Okay."

He took me around the place, he knew the way well. After a few minutes I saw Sabrina and her big sister together. Lorena was so pretty she looked good in her turquoise dress.

"Hey Lorena," Aaron greeted her.

"You made it." Sabrina told me.

"You know her?" I asked Aaron.

"Yeah, she's who I'm looking for."

"Oh," I replied.

"Wait is this who you had to give a ride to?" Lorena asked.

"Yeah, she kind of sneaked out."

"Oh you did?" Lorena said looking at me.

"Yeah um…"

"No worries," she said "I won't say anything."

"Thanks."

"Come on Alex lets go." Sabrina said.

"Oh, no you're staying with me. Mom asked me to watch you." Lorena said.

"What? I thought you were kidding about watching me." Sabrina complained.

I couldn't' say anything I was still surprised and ticked off that Aaron knew Lorena.

"I have to look for Ethan," I said quickly looking away.

"Am I taking you back home?" Aaron asked.

"Yeah."

"Well then you're staying with us, I don't want to have to wait when it's time to leave."

"What?"

He raised an eyebrow. I quickly looked away and text Ethan and told him where I was. Minutes later Ethan and Leo were in front of us looking really hot. He kissed me and held my hand, I saw Aaron look away from us. Once we were all together we went into the crowd screaming the names of the rock stars that were now getting on stage. They played several slow songs that Ethan and I danced to and other rock songs that we were just jumping to. Everything was fun, but when the crowd started getting bigger Lorena and Aaron decided it was time to leave.

"What? We just got here," Sabrina complained.

"It's going to get really crowded and there are a lot of older guys and they look pretty drunk Sabrina, mom told me to watch you."

"Well can Alex and I go somewhere else then?"

"Like?"

"Ethan's house."

"I thought you didn't want her mom to know?" Lorena asked.

"Damn it."

"We can go to my house," Leo suggested. "My parents aren't home and the neighbors are probably asleep."

"Yeah we can do that," Sabrina said.

"That doesn't make me feel any better." Lorena replied.

"Why don't I just take Alex home and you all go home too," Aaron suggested.

We all looked at him at the same time with the same glare.

"Or not," he said.

"Okay you can go to Leo's house but when Aaron and I get there Alex better be ready to leave."

"Fine," Sabrina said.

I smiled at Ethan; we hadn't been alone for a while. He grabbed my hand and put it behind me, he reached for my ass but Aaron was staring so he stopped. PDA was not Ethan's favorite thing. He preferred something more private.

We got to the cars and Sabrina handed me the keys to her sister's car. Lorena was riding with Aaron and they were going to Lorena's house, Ethan and Leo were riding together so Lorena let us drive her car to Leo's house.

"You're letting me drive?" I asked.

"Yes," she replied.

Sabrina loved driving and never gave anyone the chance to drive when she was around, and for her to let me drive even though she was here was outstanding.

"Thank you."

I pressed the alarm button and unlocked her sister's car. We got in and headed for the highway back to our town. The concert hadn't exactly been in our town, but close to it. That's why everyone had been so excited today.

I turned on the radio and Sabrina put it up a little louder. She opened her window and put half of her body out of it.

"Stop, if the cops see you they are going to stop me."

"No they won't," she said.

"Fine."

I drove a little faster and opened the window; I could feel the wind on my face and the music in my ears. As I got off the high way I noticed it was late no car was in view. I stopped on the red light and looked over to Sabrina who was smiling a great smile.

"I need to tell you something," she said.

"What? You seem so happy," I said. She was always happy when she was with Leo and Leo always seemed happy when he was with her. Why else could she be any happier? She had told me before she was going to marry him when they got out of high school.

"I'm pregnant," she said smiling even wider.

"What?" I asked. I looked at the traffic light it was still red.

"I went to the doctor and he said I was three weeks pregnant," she said again.

"Oh my god I can't believe it," I shrieked. "Does Leo know?"

"Not yet, but I know he'll be happy. We've talked about it."

"What? No you haven't," I said.

"Yeah we did…A LOT."

"That's great then," I said not knowing if that was the right answer, Sabrina had already turned seventeen but still I thought she was too young.

"I know, the only thing is I don't know how to tell my mom."

I looked at my rearview mirror and saw Leo's car behind us.

I looked at the light again and it turned green, I looked both ways before accelerating. I was about to get across the interception when I saw bright light coming to us from Sabrina's side of the car. I thought they would stop since the light was red for them, but a second later they smashed into Lorena's car. Flashbacks played in my head to when I was five and then everything went black.
