Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

I'm sorry I haven't written in so long, but I've been real super busy.
Yesterday my dad took me and Tyson to the zoo. We had lots of fun!
I didn't like the panda, but not because he looked scary.
I didn't like the panda because he looked sad.
Tyson only laughed when I said this, he's a big meany!
I don't like him anymore!

Abigail set down her pencil and closed her diary; she then proceeded to slip the small key into the keyhole, and locked it up. She was still mad at Tyson for laughing at her because she thought the Panda looked sad. He had no right to be mean, or make fun of what she thought. The Panda did look sad. She lay down on her bed and closed her eyes, falling asleep almost instantly.

"Abby!" Tyson called, walking into his best friend's bedroom. "Abby, wake up," he whispered after seeing his friend asleep on her bed. She didn't hear him though, and he knew that she wouldn't. He had intentionally spoken quietly so as to not wake her.

After standing at the foot of her bed for a couple moments Tyson crawled onto the bed with her, and stood up. He then began to jump up and down, something that he always got in trouble for doing at home.

Abigail rolled over and looked at her friend bouncing up and down happily. She quickly stood up and began to jump with him. "Tyson!" she squealed happily, all thoughts of her anger towards him forgotten. "What are you doing?"

Before Tyson could answer her question, Abigail's father came into the room and scooped both of the six year old kids up in his arms. "What are you kids doing?" he growled, pretending to be angry. "No jumping on the bed."

Both kids laughed as he dropped them back onto the bed. "Tyson," Abigail's father said looking at both of the children who were red faced from laughing. "Your mom called, it's time for you to go home for dinner."

Tyson nodded and quickly got off the bed. "Bye Abby," he called over his shoulder as he left the room.

Dear Diary,

Yesterday we went to get ice cream together, just me and him.
It was nice; he bought me my favorite kind.
We walked back home quietly, both licking our ice cream cones.
I don't know why but, I had butterflies in my stomach.
I've never felt this way about him before.
I don't know what I should think about it.

Abigail was sitting on the porch swing behind her house, holding her diary in one hand and a milkshake in the other. The wind was blowing her brown hair around into her face, but she didn't mind. She loved to sit on the swing and write in her diary. She had started writing regularly in her diary when she was five, and continued to do so, she was currently thirteen years old, but still wrote the same sort of things.

She never wrote what other girls would write in their diaries. Because other girls' diaries would be full of things that said 'Mrs. So and so,' Abigail didn't do that, who knew what would happen if someone accidently found her diary and read it. Seeing their name written everywhere with hearts around it probably wouldn't go over well with any of the boys that Abigail liked. So she refrained from mentioning anyone's name.

"Hey Abby," Tyson called as he hoped over the fence. He walked up to her and grabbed the milkshake out of her hand, not even paying attention to the diary. Maybe she was just paranoid about someone reading it. Tyson didn't even give her diary a second glace, let alone a first glance.

"Hey! That's mine," she yelled at him, not really caring that he had stolen her milkshake, he always did.

"Not anymore," Tyson replied after bringing the straw to his lips. He pushed his bangs out of his light blue eyes and smiled at her. "This is really good, Abby, you make the best milkshakes."

Abigail blushed furiously at this, which only made her think of how she had butterflies yesterday while she was walking home with him.

"I have to go inside and finish my homework." She said standing up and quickly retreating into the house, leaving Tyson alone on the swing. She didn't have any homework to do. But she sure didn't want to have Tyson watch her write about him in her diary.

Dear Diary,

I know I have been writing this for the past two years.
But I really truly think that I like him.
I know it's crazy, you think it's crazy don't you?
Of course you do.
But what if I do like him?
But that's impossible, he has a girlfriend.
I don't like him, I'm positive.
But I do love his blue eyes.
And the way his hair is always flopping into his face.
Maybe I'm not so positive about not liking him…

Abigail closed her diary, the same one she had been writing in since she was five. Yes the exact same diary. Surprisingly, she still had tons of pages left in it too.

She lay back on her bed and sighed; only minutes ago Tyson had been over telling her how much he liked Caitlin. Yes, Caitlin, the beautiful girl who he had been crushing on since last year, when they were fourteen. Well, as it turns out, she liked him back, and now they were out on a date. A forth date, which meant that they were officially deemed a couple now, whether they liked the label or not.

Abigail sighed again and opened her diary up once more.

Dear Diary,

It's been four years since I realized that I actually like him.
But you know what's happened in those four years?
Nothing!
How can that be, how can I like him so much?
How can he not even notice I exist?
I don't understand it.
I'm not supposed to feel this way about my best friend.

Abigail chucked her diary at the wall and pulled her hands to her face. She had thought that when she had first discovered her true feelings for Tyson that they would go away as quickly as they had come. She had had crushes on boys before, but that's all they had ever been, she never once liked a single boy for four years straight.

"Abby," Tyson said as he banged on her door. "Can I come in?" without waiting for an answer he walked into her room and sat on the edge of her bed.

"Hey Ty," she said pulling her face from her hands. "How's it going?"

"I'm great Abs," he said smiling at his best friend. "I just came over to ask if we could reschedule our movie night, if you don't mind."

"Yeah, sure," Abigail replied looking out the window. "What are you doing tonight then, instead?" she asked turning her attention back to him.

"Jen called, and she wants to go out tonight," he said nonchalantly. "You know how she is, I can't say no to her." He shrugged his shoulders and gave her a sheepish smile.

Abigail smiled back at her friend, she did in fact know. Tyson had cancelled their past three movie nights on account of Jen. "Yeah, can't have her getting unhappy now, can we?" she said rolling her eyes.

"Thanks for understanding," Tyson replied as he got up from her bed, obviously not recognizing her use of sarcasm. "I'll talk to you later Abby."

"Yeah, later Tyson." She said as he left her room heading back over to his house.

Dear Diary,

I used to be friends with her.
She was always so nice, but I think she used me.
I think she used me to get closer to him.
Now that they're dating she doesn't talk to me anymore.
He hardly does either. I wish I could tell him the truth.
I wish I could tell him that I think I'm in love with him.
There, I finally admitted it. Even if it was just to you.
I love Tyson.
That wasn't so hard, now if only he loved me back.

Abigail picked up her ringing cell phone and looked at the call display. Tyson's name flashed at her. Sighing she flipped it open, he had only left her house an hour ago for his date with Jen.

"Hey Tyson," she answered trying to make her voice sound happy.

"Abby," he said his voice full of sadness. "Abby, Jen broke up with me, I'm so sorry I cancelled our movie plans for her, can I come over? You're not busy are you?"

"She broke up with you?" Abigail asked completely shocked, how could she have broken up with him? They were perfect together, everyone thought so. "Yeah, Tyson, come on over."

The doorbell rang seconds after she hung up the phone, and before she could hop off her bed, or even close diary, he walked into her room and flopped himself down on her bed.

"I can't believe it," he mumbled into her pillow. "We were just sitting there, eating dinner when she looks at me and says 'Tyson, I can't do this anymore,' I didn't even know what she was talking about."

Abigail moved over and began rubbing his back. "Tyson, it's okay, you can do much better than her anyway."

"But Abby, she just broke up with me, no reason or anything." He said his voice still muffled by the pillow.

"Tyson, you don't need a reason, it's better for you anyway. It's the end of our junior year; do you really want to have a girlfriend going into grade twelve?" Abigail said trying to calm him down, the truth was she didn't know what to say to him, she hadn't even had a single boyfriend yet. She didn't know what it felt like to be broken up with.

He rolled over on the bed, laying his head on the pillow. He didn't look as sad as she thought he should have. He just looked calm. "I guess you're right, Abby," he said giving her a half hearted smile. "Could you go get me a glass of water please?" he asked.

Abigail sighed, "Just because you just got broken up with doesn't mean I'm going to be your slave." She said shaking her head at him.

"Please Abby," he said sticking out his lower lip and pouting at her.

"Oh, fine, but this is the last thing I'm doing for you," she said as she stood up from the bed and headed towards the kitchen.

"Thanks Abs!" he called after her, grinning happily now. He then sat up and looked around the room. That's when he spotted it. Lying open on her bed, the pen right beside it, it was Abigail's diary.

Curiosity getting the better of him, Tyson picked it up and began to read. He still had the book in his hands when Abigail came back in with the glass of water.

"Tyson," she said once she entered the room. "I got your water; you owe me big time n…" she stopped midsentence and the glass slipped from her hands falling to the floor and spilling water everywhere. "What are you doing!" she shrieked staring at him and not even thinking of the spilt water.

Tyson sat there looking at the diary reading one line over and over. He looked up at her and saw the anger in her face. "You dropped my water," he finally said, breaking the silence that had overcome them.

"You're reading my diary!" she yelled at him hot tears springing into her eyes. "I can't believe you would do that Tyson!"

Tyson crawled off the bed and handed her the book, open to the page she had most recently written in. The exact page she had confessed to loving Tyson on. She snatched the book from his hands and snapped it shut.

"Wait," he said, grabbing the book from her hands and opening it back up to that same page.

"Get out!" she yelled at him, reaching to grab her diary back, but he pulled it out of her reach.

"I said wait." He said grabbing hold of her wrist and bringing her over to her bed. "I have to tell you something." They both sat down on the edge of the bed.

She looked at him, tears still flowing freely. She didn't bother to reply to him, she knew he would continue with or without a response.

"Jen didn't break up with me," he said, looking at her tear streaked face, and then up to her bright green eyes, that were filled with tears. "I broke up with her."

Abigail looked up at him, now very interested in what he was saying.

"Abby, I didn't like Jen, I don't even know why I was dating her," he continued, as he set the diary on her lap. "After reading that, I know that I made the right decision."

"What do you mean," Abigail said as she wiped the tears off her cheeks.

"Could you read the last diary entry for me?" Tyson asked her, giving her a small smile.

Sighing Abigail picked the diary up from her lap and looked at the page she had just finished writing on. But when she looked at it, she noticed a new entry underneath her own. "But, I didn't write this," she said flipping the book for him to see.

Tyson shook his head, "Abby, I wrote it. Now would you please read what it says?"

Abigail turned the diary back to face her and looked down at the page. "Alright," she said getting ready to read what he had written. "Although, you know it's not very polite to write in someone else's diary."

"Abby, just read it, please," Tyson said, shaking his head at his friend.

"Dear Diary," she began, "The reason I broke up with Jen is because I realized that I don't like her." Abigail stopped reading and looked at her friend. "You already told me that," she said confused.

"Continue."

"I'm sorry it took me so long to say this, but I love my best friend." Abigail stopped reading again, only this time because that's all he had written. She looked up at Tyson who had a huge smile painted on his face. "Wait," she said as a smile began to creep its way onto her face also. "You love me?"

"I do love you," Tyson said as he leaned in to kiss her. Before he could though, she stopped him by placing her fingers on his lips.

"You know I love you too, right?" she asked him her fingers still on his lips so he couldn't kiss her.

"I did read your diary after all," he said moving back from her hand, "but it's nice to hear you say it."

Abigail smiled as she leaned towards him now. "I love you, Tyson," she said just before she placed her lips on his.
