Liz walked into the restaurant with her arm hooked around Adam's. She couldn't help but look around as they entered the brightly colored, but dimly lit Mexican restaurant. But, Lucar wasn't anywhere to be seen. The place was packed. She dodged out of the way of a waiter going by with a stacked platter, full of empty glasses and plates.
They were seated by a young Latino man with beautiful large brown eyes and crooked smile. They ordered drinks, and he disappeared.
"...so who are you looking for?" Adam asked after a moments silence.
"Hm?" Liz questioned looking up from straightening her dark blue short sleeveless dress.
"You keep looking around like your expecting to see somebody you know." He said. Ever since Liz told him the story about Lucar and his cello he had been huffy and snapping at her.
"Oh...no one. Its just full tonight, there has to be someone we know in here, don't you think?" She lied, afraid if she said Lucar's name one more time he would blow and just decide to pout and feud all night.
"Probably" said Adam staring at her seeming very unconvinced.
Liz was saved by the waiter who came back with their drinks, they both ordered the same dish, a wet burrito with a taco salad as a side. He disappeared again and they lapsed into silence.
"So, I have a concert coming up" Said Liz. Adam looked up smiling.
"When?"
"Its in three days, I have a solo." She said smiling.
"Well you know me and Frank will be there" He said smiling.
"Good" she said smiling back.
"Hey, I've got to run to the restroom real quick, I'll be back, ok?" She nodded as he stood up and walked through the crowds and smashed together tables to the back of the place. She watched until she couldn't see him anymore. There were a few moments where she just listened to conversation around her, then;
"Liz?" She turned around.
"Lucar!" She said smiling and standing up. Lucar looked wonderful, he was standing tall, in a black button up shirt, last button undone, black slacks, and black polished shoes, she saw a red tie sticking out of his slacks pocket. He noticed her looking at it.
"I'm not much for the feeling of being hanged." He said smiling at her. She laughed politely and looked back up.
"Where is your "lady friend"' She said smilling. He chuckled, then turned.
"Natalia" He called. A beautiful blond girl showed up as his side, about Liz's height, fair skin, with shocking red lipstick. She wore a short and stunning black dress with half sleeves just off the shoulder. Natalia smiled shyly at Liz who smiled shyly back.
"Shes from Russia, shes a muscian like yourself" He stated while Natalia slipped her arm around his.
"Oh? What does she play?" Liz asked curiously. The question she asked was directed at Lucar, but she was staring at Natalia"
"The Harp...I'm afraid shes not that talkative, she can speak English, but her thick accent embarrasses her. To bad, her voice is lyrical and I think you would enjoy it" He said glancing at her. Natalia blushed and looked at her feet.

"Well I don't mind accents, there are plenty of foreign students at my school who can barley speak any English." Liz said. Natalia smiled, paused for a moment, then spoke looking for a moment at Lucar who nodded his approval.
"What...instroment, do you play, miss Liz?" She asked. Lucar was right, her accent was thick, but understandable, and her voice was very lyrical, she sounded like she was half singing while talking.
"I play violin." She answered. Natalia smiled.
"Strings make such a beautiful noise, isn't that correct, Lucar?" She asked turning to him, Liz saw the longing in her face when she glanced at him, and the moment of hurt when he didn't look back.
"Yes it is. From my understanding Liz is a fantastic player...I hear you have a concert in a few days?" He said casually.
"Yes...How did you know?" She asked.

"Oh...I have my ways. Why such a event?" He asked. "My understanding was it was free, a opening for some festival just outside of town?"
Liz nodded.
"Yes, my orchestra is doing a line of songs, mostly old folk songs, Gypsies songs and things. Mostly flat keys, I'm the only one who seems to be enjoying that." She said.
"Well, we will be sure to show up, won't we Natalia?" He asked finely looking down at her. She smiled and nodded turning to Liz.
Lucar paused for a moment staring past Liz.
"Well, we must return to our seats, it was nice to see you again, Liz. Give Adam my best"
"I will, and it was wonderful to meet you, Natalia" She said. Natalia smiled and waved as Lucar pulled her away.
Liz sat back down in her seat, a few seconds later and Adam slid in next to her.
"Why were you standing?" He asked. Liz paused feeling confused.
"You didn't see him?" She asked. Adam raised his eyebrow.
"No..who?"
"Lucar...he was just here with his "lady friend."

"Mhm..." Was all Adam said. He had a funny look on his face but as soon as Liz went to question it, Adam's phone rang. He pulled it out, gave her the one minute finger, and flipped it open.

"Frank?...yeah...yeah...really? You have to be kidding me...no....no, I'll be right there." Liz watched in concern as Adam slid his phone back in his pocket. He sighed heavily and looked at the table.
"Whats wrong?" She asked. He glanced up looking guilty.

"I have to go Liz...someone broke into the store, Frank's there with the cops right now."
"Oh...well, Adam, you better go, that's pretty serious."

"I just can't leave you here." He said frowning.

"I'll be fine, I'll eat and call a taxi" She said beaming. "I'm to hungry to just leave anyway." Adam paused hesitantly before nodding. He pulled out his wallet and against Liz's protest dropped a fifty onto the table mumbling somthing about giving him the change later, and he wanted her to go to his house, then stood, she could tell by the way he was walking towards the door he was getting angry, he just didn't want to show it in front of her.

She wondered, after he left, and after the waiter brought over the two dishes of food how odd it was for Adam to have a break in. They had top secruity on the store, security camera's, and usually one of them went by and checked on it every hour or so. They were crazy protective over it.
She was wondering over all the way through eating, even though she couldn't finish it, she never could. She got box's for the rest of hers, and Adams which seemed mocking sitting across the table from her. She was questioning it all the way out the door as she stood on the corner waiting for a cab. She was going to go to Adam's like he asked, she usually would have objected, but she didn't want to go home, she would be avoiding that as long as possible.

"Liz, where is Adam?"

She turned to see Lucar and Natalia standing behind her.

"Oh, someone broke into his store...hes checking on it. I'm waiting for a cab to drive me to his house."

"Ah...may we join you? We also need a cab, I'll pay of course"

"Sure, and you don't have to pay for me, I have enough-"

"I insist" He said smiling stepping up beside her, Natalia was on his other side and she couldn't see her to clearly.

Her cab pulled up a few minutes later, they were talking about her concert again. They all stepped in, Lucar sitting in the middle. She felt awkward with how close he was, she could feel the fabric of his shirt rubbing against her bare arms.

"Where to" Asked the cab driver. Liz gave the name of Adams street, Lucar remained silent for a moment, then gave the name of a street outside of town, she couldn't place the street in her head, but she knew it was pretty far away. The cab driver did to apparently, he gave a annoyed sigh and the cab lurched into movement.
Liz glanced out of the corner of her eye to see Lucar peering at her. It was eerie in the randomly flashing street lights jetting through the car, it through odd shadows over his face. She glanced beyond him to Natalia, she was staring silently out the window, her eyes blank.
"Is she ok?" Liz asked. Lucar paused for a moment before glancing over at her.
"Oh, shes fine, not feeling well. She didn't eat a thing"

"What about you?" She asked.

"Me? Oh. I'm full" There was something that made her feel cold when he said that. It was like ice down her spine.

"I meant how are you feeling..." She said.

"Oh. I feel fantastic, its a beautiful night out"

She wondered watching him smile how he could be so uncaring. Natalia seemed in real distress and he just kept beaming at her like that. She felt slightly repulsed
She turned and stared out her window, she knew he was still staring at her, but she didn't want to look. She slowly started to feel angry at his arrogance, she wondered what had been so amazing about him earlier at the cafe.

"Liz?" He asked. She turned relunctantly to stare at him.

"If you could have anything in the world, what would it be?" He asked. She stared in him surprised. She hadn't seen that coming at all.

"I...I'm not sure..." She said. The car lurched to a stop, she looked out the window to see a duplex, Adams duplex, he lived on the top floor. She looked back to see Lucar staring at it too, but he quickly looked back down to her.

"Never go through life, Liz, not knowing what you want out of it...its a wretched life to lead if you do." There was a pause, then Liz nodded and slid out of the car, she tried to hand the cab driver some money but Lucar's slender hand slid around hers and payed him. She watched as the cab pulled away, Natalia's head turned slightly as if to look at her, but it was just blank, then they were out of site, the cab squealing around a corner.

Liz stood there, Lucar's words spinning in her head just as a few drops of rain began to pelt her skin.

She turned and slowly walked up the duplex steps, her mind seemed cold and foreign for the first time.
