What the hell? Jacob thought as he jumped from his desk to see what his accident prone girlfriend had broken now. Hopefully it wasn't any bones. When he ran out in the hallway he saw her lying on the ground with a chair on top of her.
"Are you all right?" He demanded pulling the chair from her.
"No! I'm freaking cold! Whoever put that stupid thingy up so high has something against short people!" She pouted pointing at the object of her anger. "I'm wearing like three sweaters! And I'm still cold!"
"You're silly." He said smiling down at her as she sat on the ground like a child who had been denied chocolate. "Besides, you're not that short. You're 5 2'."
"I'm shorter 'en you." She pointed out.
"Yes, I am taller than you." He said, the smile never leaving his lips. "Next time you want to turn the heater on come and get me and I will."
"But you were doing something and I didn't wanna bug ya." She said.
"Even if I'm doing something, come get me and I will do it for you." He replied. He knew she was lying, she didn't come and get him because she didn't want to depend on him for everything. Samantha never hesitated to ask if she needed him to do something for her. Even if he was doing something. Once when Jacob was on the phone with his father she had popped up on the other side of his window and began trying to make him laugh. She pressed her face into the glass and made funny faces like a child. And when he walked from the room she climbed through the window claiming it takes to long to go through the door and she began to try to make him laugh some more.
"Help me up please?" Samantha asked holding out her arms for him to help her up. She looks like a child waiting to be picked up. Jacob mused as he grasped her hands pulling her to his chest. After he placed a kiss on her forehead and she slipped from his arms and ran into her bedroom.
Jacob smiled and walked back to his desk. Soon he was once again interrupted from his studies as Samantha came running into his room and flung herself onto the bed. Soon as she stopped bouncing she scrambled under his blanket and curled into a ball at the foot of the bed.
"What are you doing?" Jacob asked eying her as she crawled under the thick comforter.
"Getting warm." She replied, her voice slightly muffled by the thick blanket.
"You know, you shouldn't have eaten that ice cream if you didn't want to be cold." He said laughing at her antics.
"Thats what my sister said! But she said it was because I was going to get fat if I kept eating so much. And I told her I would just run a few miles." She said, Jacob could see her shrug. "Where are you?" Samantha asked when she felt the bed dip.
"Here." Jacob replied as he lifted the blanket and pulled her from under it.
"Hey! It's cold!" Samantha whined in protest, but silenced herself when she was pulled into his lap. Jacob pulled the blanket around them both and smiled into her hair as she snuggled into his chest.
"No, I was warm where I was!" She pouted. But then exclaimed, "Oi! I was comfortable!" when Jacob started to remove her from his lap.
"I thought you liked it better at the foot of the bed under the blankets?" Jacob asked as he watched in amusement as she wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed her face in her shoulder, not wanting to be moved from his lap.
"Noo! I said it was warmer but I like it here better." She replied quickly, her voice slightly muffled by his shoulder.
"Thought so." He said a bit smug as he kissed her hair.
"Now don't go getting a fat head." She huffed, never moving. She thought for a moment. Then she said, "I know someone who's lap is more comfy!" She claimed.
"Who?" He said raising an eyebrow, he already knew she was going to say her dad. She was a huge daddy's girl and when she was younger she sat on his lap quite a bit.
"My daddy!" She sang. Then she said as an after thought, "He snores really loud though."
"You're ridiculous." Jacob snorted shaking his head at the girl in his lap.
"Aw! You know you love me!" She sang with a lopsided grin on her face.
"Of course." He said. They sat in silence for a bit, but Jacob broke the silence when he saw her yawn. "It's late. We should sleep."
"No I'm not!" She said trying to hide another yawn, but she failed to fool him.
"Yes you are." He said as he lay them both on the bed and covered them with the thick comforter.
When Jacob woke he found that he was alone in the room. Samantha was nowhere to be seen.
"Owie! That fricking hurt!" Samantha's voice rang through the small house.
"What happened?" Jacob demanded as he jumped from the bed and ran to find why she was in yowling.
"Um... Nothin'?" She asked looking at him innocently, but not before she grabbed something from the floor and thrust it behind her back.
"What did you break?" Jacob asked looking around the room to see if anything was misplaced. Then he pretended he saw nothing, but he knew what was behind her back, it was a picture of him and his family. She must have broken it.
"Nothin'. I just... tripped! Yeah I tripped." She said smiling up at him.
"Alright. I'll be in my room if you need me." He said walking off, but hid in the hallway to see what she was going to do.
"Shoot!" She said, Jacob smiled at the fact that she refused to use profanities claiming that they were a misuse of the English language. She pulled the broken frame from behind her back and ran to to a shelf and grabbed a photo about the same size, it held a picture of her and her siblings. She quickly took the picture from it's frame and slipped in the one of Jacob and his family and she replace it on the shelf. "I'll have to get a new frame sometime." She murmured as she set the loose picture against one of her and her little sister hugging each other with wide grins on their faces.
"What were you doing when you fell anyway?" Jacob said leaning on the wall.
"Ah! Don't do that!" Samantha exclaimed almost falling over. "I didn't fall, I tripped remember?"
"I already know you broke the frame. You didn't have to put the picture in the one that held a picture of you and your family. What were you doing when you fell?" He repeated.
"Hehe, I was trying to dust an' I fell over, the frame hit me in the head, then it broke when it hit the ground. Well, I didn't fall over till after I was hit in the head." She explained rubbing the back of her head sheepishly.
"You're ridiculous." Jacob replied shaking his head as he walked over to her, placing a kiss on her head.
"So I've been told." She snickered.
"I'm going to the store. We're out of coffee, I'll get another frame while I'm out. What size is it?" He asked. Once she told him he headed for the store. He only was going for the frame, so Samantha didn't go out and get a really nice one that was to much. Not that money was really a problem but she also tended to get sidetracked easily. She was likely to find the nearest library or book store and forget about the frame completely.
When he got back he was welcomed with a yell of, "Taylor! Do something! The vacuum is eating my hair!"
"Why? It's fun to watch." Taylor snickered.
"I swear to God I with kick your ass when I get out of this!" Samantha swore. Jacob ran in the direction of their voices to find an almost comical scene. Samantha was on the floor with her head to the vacuum and from what he could see her hair was stuck in it. Taylor was just standing their watching as her younger sister flailed.
"Are you all right?" Demanded Jacob as he rushed to her side to try and help her free.
"No! I am never vacuuming again! The damn thing is out to get me! First it falls on my foot then it barfs up all the contents and I just so happened to be trying to find what was wrong with it. I haven't even got the junk from my hair!" Samantha wailed, her flailing never stopped.
"Calm down." Jacob said, trying not to laugh at the comical sight before him.
"Fine." She grumbled as she stopped her flailing about. "Wait. We're not out of coffee. Why'd ya go to the store?"
"To get a frame." He replied as he freed her braid from the vacuum.
"I'm am so getting a hair cut!" Samantha exclaimed as she rolled over and sat up.
"No you are not!" Taylor exclaimed looking appalled.
"It's my head not yours! So I'm gonna get a hair cut. And just because you said I couldn't I'm cut it all off! I was just gonna get a lil' trim." She snickered at her sisters face.
"Are you really getting a hair cut?" Jacob whispered.
"Nope. I just wanna see what she does." She whispered back.
"You can't get a hair cut!" Taylor yelled in outrage.
"Why the hell not?" Samantha asked.
"Because-because I'm your big sister and I said so!" Taylor yelled.
"So?" Samantha sang.
"But nothin'. Now. I really need a shower." Samantha said jumping up and walking to the hall closet to get a towel.
"Fine! Just don't cut your hair off!" Taylor called after her. Then she looked to me. "I'll be going now."
"You can show yourself the door." Jacob said, he never did like Taylor.
"She gone?" Samantha called once she heard the door shut.
"Good. 'Cause if I took a shower with her here she would start the dish washer and the water would be cold." Samantha said, Jacob heard her start the shower. I might as well get some studying in. Jacob thought as he walked to his room. A half hour later there was a crash and cursing coming from the bathroom.
"You alright?" Jacob asked putting his ear to the door.
"No! All electronic devises are out to get me." He heard her pout.
"I just dropped the hot hair iron on my foot!"
"Ouch. Are you alright?"
"Yeah. I ain't gonna do my hair though." Samantha said. "Don't lean on the door. I'ma open it."
"I'm not." Jacob said moving away from the door. Samantha walked out from the bathroom in a pair if beat up sweats and an equally beat up tank top.
"You're always cold."
