This is in memory of Confederate general Lewis A. Armistead who died at Gettysburg. He was good friends with Union general Winfield Scott Hancock before the war and died without ever seeing him again.

Armistead's Requiem

All I wanted was to see an old friend again.

All I wanted was to tell you I was sorry.

But I couldn't.

Now here I lie dying, as other men have died before.

I sent them to die.

I knew this would happen.

Old friend, I'm sorry.
