Zzzzz! I blinked at the sound, my bright yellow eyes glowing in the darkness.

Zzzzz! The mosquito's sweet smell wafted into my sensitive nostrils, and I inhaled deeply, savoring the scent.

My stomach rumbled with hunger, and eagerly, I let go of the branch I was hanging on to.

Soundlessly, I spread my silky dark wings and soared high into the air, shrieking to get a better sense of the mosquito's position. Ah. There it is, I thought, satisfied, as the high-pitched sound waves echoed back to me, successfully locating the mosquito. I shot through the air toward the mosquito and just as I was about to catch it, another bat slammed into me, knocking the air out of my lungs.

Winded, I plummeted to the ground, bouncing a few times before finally stopping. The strange bat landed smoothly beside me.

"What was that for?" I cried, struggling onto my feet. He didn't say anything. Furious, I shot at him, teeth bared, but all of a sudden he was gone.

Confused, I spun around, only to find myself face to face with him. He grinned widely, revealing two huge incisors. I gasped, terror flooding all six inches of my being.

This could only mean one thing. This was not a bat, but a vampire.

Shrieking, I stumbled backwards and flung myself intoflight. Frantically I flew towards my colony, batting my wings as hard as I could. I heard the vampire shriek behind me, and as I turned back to look I felt two claws dig into my fur.

Gasping, I twirled around to meet my attacker but only felt two rounded teeth sliding into my throat. I thrashed weakly, but it was too late.

My heart pounded in my ears as I felt my life being sucked out of me. My throat throbbed with pain, and I knew what was going to happen. I knew I was going to die. Slowly, my head fell back and lolled to the side.

I felt the vampire retract his incisors and gently set me into a pile of leaves. "I'm sorry," I heard him apologize; "I'm just so lonely!" He patted me sympathetically, and just as I was about to black out I heard him say, "But don't worry, life as a vampire isn't so bad…"

For those of you who don't know what incisors are, they are your front two teeth. Yes, not fangs, but HUMAN teeth. If you haven't got it already, in my story, a vampire is not a human who sucks human blood and turns into a bat, but a bat who sucks bat blood and turns into a human.
