I awaken from a dream my eyes unfocussed
The colors still swirling in my tired mind
Stretching from silk beds spreads I reach
For a small, silver stiletto blade
Its tip is tainted with my love, sweet love
I pierce it through the vein in my wrist
I only wince as it passes through my skin.
And I pray to the Lord to forgive my sin.
I smile gently as it courses with my blood
I feel it pass through my heart in and out
It slows the beat…my pain ebbs torpidly
Like an echo rebounding too many times
A picture I once saw but cannot remember
My fists unclench as the hurt bids farewell.
Conscious slips through my fingers again
As I lapse into sleep, and whisper "Amen"
