Chapter Two
Revenge is Sweet
Skylar and I entered our village, which was already pretty much barbequed. All the houses were nothing but ash, and there were corpses of our friends and neighbors all around. I looked to Skylar, who was tearing at the sight.
"Uncle Alexzander?" Skylar asked, looking to me.
"Come on, lets search for him and any survivors."
I took a hold of Skylar's hand and we walked through the rubble, hoping to find someone who survived this massacre. We came upon a large mount of dust and ash, that was our house, or used to be our house. Our Uncle Alexzander laid face first on the ground, his breathing shallow.
"Uncle Alexzander!" Skylar ran to his side, turning him over onto his back.
"Skylar...Misha..." He coughed loudly.
"Who did this?" I asked, dropping to my knees on the other side of our Uncle.
"I..don't know. I was inside, reading...when I heard explosions...I walked outside and saw a bunch of houses burning bright..." He paused to take a deep breath of air. "Our neighbors had died when their home was bombed, and then more explosions. Finally, our house got it..."
I noticed Uncle Alexzander bleeding from his stomach. It looked to be a stab wound. Quickly, I tore a piece of my shirt and wrapped it around his stomach, applying pressure.
"What happened here? How did you get wounded?"
"The leader saw me and came over and stabbed me, without..explanation..."
"So he just randomly stabbed you?"
I saw my Uncle eyes had closed, and his stomach indicated he wasn't breathing anymore. Skylar started nudging him, trying to wake him up. I just sat there, in shock. Why would someone destroy our village? My home? I started nudging my uncle, too, hoping he was just faking it.
"Alexzander!" I shouted, but noticed it was no use.
"I guess it helped that when I stabbed him, my blade had poison on the end. There was no use in saving him at all." A voice came from behind.
I spun around, staring at the attacker dead on. Skylar stood up and came up beside me. He wrapped his arms around me, obviously frightened.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Haha, you can call me...Kayne."
"Alright, Kayne...why did you just massacre the ONLY family I have?"
"Simple. I am looking for someone, and no one in this town would tell me her whereabouts."
"Looking for someone?" I blinked and shook my head. "Considering you killed everyone but me and my brother, I do not think you will find her."
Kayne gave a small little smirk, hiding behind the hood on the long, black cloak that he wore. "Exactly."
Now I was confused, and Skylar seemed to be as well. Skylar just clung to me, I could feel him shaking. I was going to murder this guy for killing my family, and scaring Skylar half to death.
"I don't know what you mean by exactly, but you will pay for what you have done!" I said, angerly.
"Haha, if you can find me, young Misha."
My eyes widened, not once have me or Skylar mentioned my name. I gripped the handle of the blade that was strapped to my thigh, ready to strike if this man tried anything.
"How do you know my name?" I spurted through my gritted teeth.
"Find my lair and you shall see." He gripped the end of his cloak and threw it over himself, vanishing.
"Kayne!" I shouted, running to the spot where he once stood.
"My lair is north of here, follow the path to the New Country, there you will find answers." His voice was nothing but the wind, I looked back to Skylar who just continued to cry.
"It will be alright, Sky. I am going to go find Kayne and avenge our village. He will pay."
"Misha, I want to go."
"Sky, it's way too dangerous, and you haven't had proper training."
Skylar walked over to one of our neighbors, who clutched a long Katana. Breaking it free from the dead corpses grip, he also grabbed the sheath that was on the mans back and placed the Katana inside, slinging it onto his own back.
"I can fight. I have been watching you train for years, I can do this. You can't do this alone, Misha!"
I sighed, he did have a point. "Fine, but if it gets too dangerous, I want you to step back, got it?"
He nodded eagerly. I just smiled. Skylar did make me proud. We searched every pocket of the corpses on the ground for any kind of gold. Luckily, we got five hundred gold on searching all of the dead bodies. Then we turned around and started walking out of the village. Before exiting completely, I turned around and gave the place I would never return to one last look. It made me want to cry, knowing I would never return to our village.
We trailed on for several hours, hardly ever making stops. I was surprised Skylar could walk this long. Finally, he asked to stop for the night.
"Misha, I am really tired." Skylar yawned heavily, nearly falling over.
"Alright, there is a town up ahead. We'll stop at the Inn."
So, we entered the town. It seemed to be very lively for this time of night. The town was indeed very pretty, all over the rows of houses were these beautiful, colorful, lights that were dangling off everyones roofs. There was a small flower garden around each of the shops, and they were indoors, unlike back in my village, where all the shops were tiny little booths. There was a music festival going on in the middle of the town, and they were just getting set up to have some fireworks go off.
"Wow!" Skylar said, amazed.
"Pretty upbeat town." I mumbled. We stopped in front of the Inn, I could tell Skylar wanted to take part in the festival. "I'll try and get us a room, you can go check out the festival, but please be careful."
Skylar nodded and ran off while I walked into the Inn. The inside had plants of Waterlilies on the windowsill's, which gave the inside a more homey feel. The Inn Keeper was a middle-aged man with thinning black hair, spectacles, and a beard that was the color of white.
"Hello, how may I help you?" He asked, kindly.
"I would like a room for me and my brother. How much would that be?"
"Normally, one hundred gold, but seeing as you look like you are searching for something...on the house."
I could feel the heat rise to my cheeks. This man was really nice, I extended my hand out toward him and smiled.
"Thank you, Mister..."
"Call me Doc."
"Alright, Doc. I am Misha."
I turned around and exited to go searching for Skylar. He was standing in the middle of a big crowd, watching a group of fire dancers. He seemed to enjoy it here and felt very content.
"Sky, time for bed." I called.
He turned around and ran over to me. "Misha! Did you see the fire dancers? They were awesome!"
I nodded. "I saw. I got us a room, for free...the Inn Keeper is a very nice fellow."
We walked into the Inn. Doc saw us and ran over, handing me a key. "Sorry, Misha. My old head forgot to give you the key to your room. You are in room 9."
I smiled. "Thanks, Doc. This is my brother, Skylar."
"Nice to meet you, Skylar." Doc said.
"Same here."
We found our room, and I jammed the key into the doorknob, opening the door. It creaked a bit as it opened. I flicked on the light switch, watching the room come to life in the light. The walls had beige wallpaper that was decorated with a floral pattern. There were two, twin sized beds, one next to each window. The sheets were beige, I guess to match the color of the room, and the pillowcases were also the same color. Our windows were concealed behind white blinds. I loved the feel to this room.
"What do you think?" I asked Skylar.
"It's nice." He yawned. "Let's get to bed."
Skylar took the left bed, diving in, and almost instantly falling asleep. I smiled and rook the right bed, just laying in bed and relaxing for a bit before drifting off to sleep and dreaming of the sweet revenge I was going to have.
