Anyway, I've had a nice break but I'm back now. I can't wait to hear from all of my great readers again! And I'd also like to congratulate bananamilkshake for winning the contest and coming up with the title. There were soooo many great titles and I had a really hard time choosing, it was narrowed down to about six all together. So I'm going to let you all read now but there is a very important author's note at the end so pleaseee read it! Thanks guys! :)
"Lucas! Lucas are you listening to me?"
The annoying shrill voice rang through my ears but I made no notice to it. I sat, with no emotion on my face, staring off into space. Which was how I've been for the last quite a while.
"Lukey," she clung on to my side. She, being the girl I now call my girlfriend..if you could even call her that. For the past month I've been with a different girl every week. All of them being not what you would call a committed relationship. More like shallow, slutty girls who just wanted some physical action. Usually once they realised what an asshole I was being, they took of. This one however, was just clingy and annoying.
"Lucas," she continued. "What's the matter? Why aren't you talking to me?"
I continued to ignore her, hoping she'd eventually shut up. She didn't.
She huffed loudly and her face turned to anger. "What?, are you thinking about that girl you went out with for like... ever?" she said annoyed. "What's her name, Sandra?"
My face turned hard at the mention of her name.
"Hey, leave it." Troy said, sounding angry. He had been sitting on my computer, I had almost forgotten he was here. "Don't talk about her."
"Troy, stay out of this. Why are you even here?" she hissed.
"I think you should leave." he raised his eyebrows.
"Excuse me? Lucas, tell your friend to mind his own business." she looked at me expectantly. I merely shrugged and made no move to back her up.
"Whatever." she grunted. "I'm going home Lucas. Call me later, and don't forget." she skipped over and pecked me on the cheek.
I watched as she left the room swaying her hips back and forth, her short skirt swaying back and forth in motion with them. She slammed the door behind her and left us in silence.
"Don't listen to her man." Troy said, breaking the silence. "It's okay if you miss her, or think about her."
"I wasn't thinking about her!" I shot back sharply. "And I don't miss her. I could care less where she is now."
I could see Troy staring at me intently. "Have you been drinking again?" he questioned.
I shrugged my shoulder giving no response. He knew the answer was yes. "It doesn't matter. Now just don't talk about her because all it's going to do is make me angry. I told you guys that long ago."
"Jesus Luke, you're gonna seriously mess yourself up."
I made no response and he continued talking. "Listen, I know her leaving messed some things up but drinking until you're knocked out isn't going to make things better. And these girls you're hooking up with, definitely not making things better. I mean come on man, it's been a whole month of summer and you've done nothing but be a major asshole. There is still three weeks of summer left. Why don't you get up and enjoy yourself?"
"It has nothing to do with her. It's not bothering me." I said firmly. "This is how I used to be. And now I'm going back."
He sighed and rolled his eyes. "Well football training starts in a week. Nothing better than tackling some guys right?" he grinned.
"Yeah I guess." I grinned a tiny bit.
"Well I'm gonna head home, I've got a date tonight. A cheerleader." he winked.
I chuckled at him as he gathered up his stuff to leave and approached the door, before turning around to look at me again, more serious. "Just forget about her man."
But forgetting about her, would require thinking about her. Which would cause anger.
"Lucas honey where are you going?" Mom called in from the kitchen as I came down the stairs.
I rolled my eyes at the names she still called me. "Alyssa wants me to meet her at the mall."
There was a silence. "You're still dating that girl?" I could hear the disapproving tone in her voice.
"Yes mom."
"Oh." silence again. "Well have fun sweetie."
I strolled out of my house towards my car. Alyssa wasn't anything special, but she was a girl who didn't exactly have morals, if you know what I mean. So I guess I'd give her a chance, as much as I could. She was a major bitch sometimes though and made me wonder why I even bothered.
When I pulled into the mall parking lot. I could see Alyssa waiting at the entrance with her hands on her hips. She was wearing a tight tank top that exposed two inches of her stomach and very short denim shorts. Typical.
I approached her, swinging my car keys around my finger.
"Hey." I leaned in to kiss her but she turned her head so that it landed on her cheek.
"I'm wearing lip gloss." she said in a duh tone.
I stared at her and narrowed my eyes. "Right.."
"Alright, let's go then. I need to find something to make me look hotter than Jacklynn Spencer." she turned and pranced off towards the first store.
I took a deep breath and reassured myself. Stay calm Lucas, stay calm.
I caught up to her, finding her in the most feminine store she could find.
"Lucas I'm trying these on. Wait outside the dressing room so you can tell me how good they look."
"Sure." I tried smiling.
She went in with about twenty pounds of clothes so I figured I'd be here for a while.
I sat in the chair outside the dressing room, waiting for her to emerge from the dressing room.
"Lucas?" I heard a voice say behind me.
I turned my head and saw Sarah staring back at me. If I said we were friends again, I'd be lying. I was still mad at her for what she did.
"Hi." I replied.
"What are you doing in here?" she raised her eyebrows.
"I'm uh.. with my girlfriend."
"Lucas who are you talking to?" Alyssa called harshly through the door.
"Nobody." I lied.
She didn't take much convincing, and went back to trying on her clothes.
"Girlfriend?" Sarah continued. "So I guess things with Sandra didn't quite work out?"
I took a deep breath. Seeing as we weren't in school, nobody even knew Sandra had left except for her friends who kind of realised she moved when they went looking for her and were told by her father that she moved back to California.
"She moved." I replied flatly.
Sarah looked dumbfounded. "She moved? Why?"
"I don't know, I don't want to talk about it." I crossed my arms.
Alyssa emerged from the dressing room scantily clad.
"Who's this?" she sneered, looking at Sarah.
"Please don't tell me she's the girlfriend." Sarah stifled a laugh.
I shot her a look, and she rolled her eyes, muttering a 'whatever' and leaving the store.
Alyssa disregarded any of it and did a twirl in front of the mirror. "So, how do I look?"
"Great." I commented.
She looked back at the mirror and then pouted. "I look fat."
"No you don't." I rolled my eyes.
"Yes I do Lucas. Stop lying to me!" she stormed back into the dressing room and slammed the door shut.
Wow. Deep breaths Lucas. Don't let your anger problems take you over now.
When she came back out. She was in a good mood again. I was beginning to think she was bi-polar.
After another hour of walking around the mall and me being the one to lug her bags around, I couldn't take it anymore.
"Hey do you wanna go get something to eat. I'll pay." I suggested.
"Lucas, I'm on a diet."
"So? Get a salad."
She crossed her arms and then let out an over dramatic sigh. "Fine. Let's go."
We went to the food court and she sat down while I waited in line for our food.
"Pearson." somebody behind me clapped me on the back.
I turned around and saw Nate grinning behind me. Him and I were on...weird terms. We used to be friends but things got weird when Sandra came in between us. Even though they both said they were just friends, I was stubborn. He was among the people who knew that Sandra had left.
"Nate." I nodded back.
"So uh, hear anything from Sandra yet?" he asked hesitantly.
I stared ahead for a moment and then shook my head. "No. And I don't want to." Why was everybody I talked to today insisting on talking about Sandra? All I wanted to do was never talk about that girl again.
He nodded his head and we stood in silence.
"Lucas, hurry up you're taking forever!" I cringed at the sound of Alyssa calling me.
"I uh, gotta go." I stammered.
Nate grinned at me and I swear I could see him laughing. "Yeah sure."
What were the chances of me running into both him and Sarah in one hour?
"Here." I placed a salad down in front of her.
"Thanks baby." she smiled.
I gave a little smile and then sat down in front of her.
She examined me and saw that there was no food in front of me. "You dragged me here and you're not even going to eat?" she raised her eyebrows.
"I'm not hungry." I mumbled.
She slammed her fork down forcefully onto the table. "Lucas! I am sick and tired of this attitude. Do you even know how lucky you are to have someone like me? And all you do is walk around and act like you hate the world. Take me home."
"I never took you here in the first place." I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever, I'm going home. You better smarten up!" And with that, she stormed away from the table, leaving me in peace, which was fine with me. I clicked my tongue and leaned back in my chair.
I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket and saw that I had a call from Troy.
"Hello?" I answered in a bored tone.
"What's up?" His usual bright attitude came booming through the phone.
"Nothing. At the mall, by myself now."
"Cool..." he said slowly, trailing off. "Anyway, coach wants us at his house in twenty minutes, tryouts are next week so he wants to go over some stuff."
I ran a hand through my hair and sighed. "Um, yeah okay I'll be there soon."
"Alright, later man."
The line went dead and i threw my phone onto the table. The Henessey house was not where I wanted to be right now.
But of course, fifteen minutes later, I found myself walking thorugh the front door. Troy was already sitting in the kitchen when I got there. I nodded to the two of them in greeting.
"Alright boys let's get this started. Lucas, obviously you're going to be our captain, Troy I'm thinking you'll be one of our assistant captains." he stared.
"Don't you think you should wait until trouts are over to be choosing captains?" Troy raised his eyebrows.
"I highly doubt we'll be getting any rookies that will be good enough to take captain positions."
"Well you never know, Sandra was." Troy grinned. The grin then suddenly fell off of his face when he realised what he said. We didn't usually bring up Sandra because they knew how I got. Especially when it was us and her father.
The room went silent and I stared down at the table.
"Well I uh..highly doubt it." he said awkwardly.
"Yeah you're probably right. You don't get much better than this." Troy grinned.
The atmosphere changed back to normal and we spent the first little while planning try outs.
After about a half an hour, Troy decided to leave. Leaving me and the coach there alone.
He got up and walked over to the fridge to get a drink. He looked back at me hesitantly. "Are you okay Luke?"
"Why wouldn't I be?" I shrugged lazily.
"Well because of--"
"Because of Sandra?" I finished for him. He looked kind of surprised that I had actually said her name myself. "I'm fine. And I know she's your daughter and all so no offence, but I really don't even miss her that much."
I was getting myself all worked up again and saying things I know I shouldn't have been saying. You really shouldn't say those things about a girl to her father.
"Lucas.."
"You know what? It doesn't even matter." I got up and pushed my chair out abruptly. "If she ever calls, not that she ever would or anything. But you can let her and everyone else know that I don't want to talk to her because I don't care anymore!"
I stormed out of the house before he could say anything, letting my anger get the best of me again.
A/N: Me again, so two quick things. First, I'm writing exams all next week so there probably won't be any new updates until after next week, sorry! And second, I'm sure a lot of you have been seeing that a lot of great writers here on Fiction Press have been leaving, due to their work being plagiarized. I have already had my last story plagiarized and am still thanking you guys for all of your support. I put it aside that one time but I will NOT accept that anymore. So if I find my story plagiarized anymore, I will take my stories down and find a more secure place to write. And I really hope that you guys will give me enough respect to let me know if you come across a story that is plagiarizing me. I'll still write on another site so please let me know!
Okay that's it, thanks guys and gals!
