CHAPTER EIGHT
A week had passed. It was Friday afternoon. Danielle sat with Trey at the lunch table they were talking about random stuff. When one topic died down they would throw out another just to fuel the conversation. Soon they ran out of topics. There were five minutes till lunch ended. The silence was long and empty. Danielle stood up and smiled at Trey.
"I'm going to class early." She gave him a kiss on the cheek and walked away. It was odd; that feeling of emptiness. But she quickly dismissed it. She'd gotten little sleep the night before since her parents had gone out. Her mother was asked to go somewhere by her work, their father had tagged along. He was a retired Police officer. If he needed extra money he'd help neighbors out with things that required being hands on.
Since they were gone…again, the girls had the house to themselves. But since Melanie had great bounce-back she was already back to routines before she landed a boyfriend. And her noise kept Danielle up most of the night. Sometimes she really hated her sister.
After school Melanie drove home with her tutor (aka fuck for the night) and Trey drove Danielle. She thanked him and pressed her lips against his. Slowly it heated up, but before long she pulled away with a seductive smile and got out of the car. She waved and walked into her house.
Melanie giggled. Danielle sighed. "Why don't you two just skip all the fucking foreplay and get on with the fucking, so that I can sleep tonight," Danielle yelled.
"Shut up!" Melanie yelled back.
"Please, do!"
Danielle went to the living room and got out her homework. Knowing the drill, she took out two pieces of paper. She'd be doing Melanie's homework too.
The next morning Melanie woke up, and walked down stairs to a finished breakfast. Egg, toast and orange juice. She was surprised to see Danielle taking her father's place and doing work at the dining room table. Crap was spread everywhere and Danielle wasn't skipping a single beat. Three Days Grace came from the speakers where her iPod was connected, but that was normal. What wasn't, was the volume. It was low.
Melanie ate in silence. When she finished she washed her plate and walked over to Danielle.
"Hey Danni; what up?"
"The chandelier."
Melanie groaned, "What are you doing?" she clarified.
"Not guys."
"Will you just answer me!" Pain in the ass.
"I don't know."
"What? Why not?"
The music from the iPod speaker stopped and Danielle looked at the time. "Gotta go."
She quickly stood up and threw a jacket over her black tank-top. Immediately Melanie stepped in front of her.
"Where are you going?"
Danielle shrugged, "I have no idea. Kanny and Liza are dragging me some place. They said if I don't go willingly they'll be forced to come over and literally drag me there. So I'm going willingly."
"Oh, okay."
Danielle walked around Melanie and out the door. Maybe there was someone she could hang with too. She went to her room and grabbed her phone off the charger. Scrolling through the list she decided to call someone who she hadn't hung out with for a while.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Riley, it's Melanie, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out today?"
"Are all your friends busy or something?" he asked, there was a hint of bitterness to his voice.
"No, well, I don't know, haven't talked to them yet today. I just, you know, wanted to see if we could hang."
There was a pause on the other line. "Alright, I'll be there in a bit." He hung up.
