brass button,
tarnished and worn
though your luster will not sell
you have not been sullied
as i would have expected
i can simply see,
that all it is you need
is some love.

i'll wear you on my collar
so that you can see the sun
and we can grow old together,
you'll be the only one.

sadly love,
you might be alone again,
for i am aging,
and you are a button
sitting in the sun,
growing old with all my children,
(and theirs, when the day comes).

one day,
you'll be stored away
as the only possesion i had left
as the only one willing to stay.

because you saw me
admiring you,
and said to yourself,
"you need love too."
