Hey everyone, well here's a brand new oneshot and i hope you enjoy it. Please, please, please tell me what you think about it by reviewing. Thanks so much.

Don't you ever wonder why fate is so unpredictable? So blind? So unexpected? Yet at the same time, fate can be astonishingly amazing, with the way it is set to irreversibly entwine the lives of people together, speaking in terms of romance of course. Like, for example, you go to the cinemas and there's this guy who is holding one of those massive slurpees and he blindly bumps into you. Coming out of unicorn and rainbow land, you start yelling at him and want to hit him because his drink has ruined your beautiful shoes. After a massive whirlwind of obstacles, funny, raise-both-of-your-eyebrows moments, you end up marrying the dude! Look at that! The works divine intervention.

You know what? When I think about this, I still smile in wonder and curiosity. Fate brought me to one of the geekiest, smartest and quietest guys ever. Rain Simmons. I know right? His name was Rain. When I first heard it, I was like "Hippie name much?" But then it hit me that my middle name was River, Melanie River James. So anyway, he was one of those guys who looked like they spent hours on the computer playing games like "Dawn of War" and "War Craft" and used the words Noob, Pwned and GG.

He wasn't exactly eye candy you know. He wore these thick glasses that slightly magnified his eyes, making him looking rather funny. I knew it was mean but being rather immature and idiotic, I couldn't help but giggle whenever I past him in the hall ways or corridors; I just found him so amusing for some reason. He wasn't buff and built like all of the other guys, he was really tall and lanky, and by tall, I mean really tall. His hair was a dull, black color and despite the large complexity of his magnified eyes, there was nothing special about them. He had a high bridged nose, though it was slightly crooked and his ears were a bit too big.

Another thing that I noticed about him, and yes you're probably thinking, 'the other hundredth thing she noticed about the guy…' Well, just so you know, I didn't stalk or keep tabs on him; it was just that he was around that often. Anyway, the other thing I noticed about him was that he never walked around without carrying some novel in his hand and as a matter of fact, every two days, he would walk into class carrying a new novel as thick as my mattress. Talk about a machine!

I never really spoke to him; it was just the occasional glance and look away thing. He was everywhere though, strangely, he was wherever I was. At first, I didn't notice this but one day in the college library, my best friend Jenny pointed this out.

"Pssst! Mel, do you know that guy?" Jenny whispered to me.

Looking up from my notes, I raised an eyebrow at her questioningly and looked around the library, searching for whoever she was referring to.

"Him?" I sighed dreamily, resting my face in the palm of my hand. I was ogling at Henry Johnson who was standing by the window with a book in his hands. He was, by far, the most gorgeous, most delicious looking guy on campus. He was 'Channing Tatum' stunning. He had brown disheveled hair and eyes that were so dreamy and hypnotic. He was fit you know, and his arms look oh so comfortable to be in.

"No, you freak! Wipe that drool from your chin woman!" she yelled, slapping her book into my face. Glaring at her, I rubbed my nose gently and scanned the library once again.

"Who in Popeye's pants are talking about then?" I asked her impatiently.

Rolling her eyes at me, she jabbed her pen in my direction. Frowning, I turned around slowly and caught sight of Rain, who was manically scribbling something onto a piece of crinkled paper. He looked like he had just gotten out of bed, with his hair sticking up in every direction known to mankind.

"Rain Simmons?" I asked her uncertainly. Jenny nodded vigorously and smiled at me, wiggling both of her eyebrows.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"He's everywhere you are, you know" she said as a matter of factly.

"Huh?" I asked her, with confusion evident in my voice.

Rolling he eyes once again, she shook her head warily and slapped her own forehead.

"Jen, you really need to stop doing that, you eyes might roll back into your skull one day" I said to her, flicking through my textbook.

"You know what I notice? Every time you walk into a room and he is in the same one, he always looks at you. It's not really hard to notice seeing that his eyes are huge!" she said laughing. I smiled and turned around and looked at him, he looked rather psycho-ish if you know what I mean.

"What are you trying to say?" I asked her, clicking on my pen out of pure habit.

"Just keep your eyes peeled" she said in a hush voice.

From then on, I did keep my eyes peeled but I noticed that he always seem to be preoccupied with one thing or another. I only caught him looking at me once or twice but one day in art class, he kept on staring at my face and I was thinking, "What's with that?" After fifty minutes of uncomfortable sighs and huffs, I waited until everyone left the classroom and then I strutted up to him and asked him straight out, what in the world his problem was.

"Look, what's your problem?" I asked him, crossing my arms over my chest like a little five year old. He looked slightly alarmed and leaned back in his seat.

"Why do you keep on looking at me for?" I questioned him heatedly. His lips pulled up into a small smile and he gulped before talking to me, which I found rather weird. I wasn't scary…I think.

"You...Um…err, have a little um, you know, something on your face" he mumbled pointing at his left cheek.

"I think it's an...um"

He stood up and leaned closer to my face and being me, I thought that he was about to kiss me. My instant reaction to this was to punch him, and that's exactly what I did. I remember that he doubled over and groaned while I panicked and just stood there.

"I was going to say that it's a pen mark" he said breathlessly. After processing what he had said, I almost started crying in humiliation. Biting my bottom lip down in embarrassment, I cursed my stupidity and helped him up.

"I'm so sorry, I thought you were..."

I was unable to finish the sentence because the thought was just simply too disgusting.

"Oh, um" he muttered, gathering his books quickly.

Flustered, he gave me a smile without looking at me and surprisingly, apologized which made me feel even more like an idiot.

"I'm sorry I got too close to your face, it's, um, I just, I couldn't s-see what it was so, um, sorry" he said quickly before rushing out the door. Mind you, he bumped into about one hundred desks before he made it out the door that day.

I remember telling Jenny what happened and she almost cried laughing. This nosy guy who was eavesdropping on our conversation started laughing obnoxiously and called Rain an idiot. For some reason, I wasn't okay with that. Anyway, I felt really guilty after the incident so Jenny suggested that I bake him a cake and I couldn't think of any other idea, so I went ahead with it.

When I approached him, with this beautiful chocolate cake of mine, he was, like the other time, scribbling excitedly on what I noticed to be a music sheet. When he noticed that I was there, he looked up and gave me a nervous smile and shoved the sheet away hastily.

"Hi…Rain" I said awkwardly as I waved at him.

"I…I'mreallysorryaboutlasttimebecauseithoughtyouweregonnadosomethingweirdsoibakedyouachocolatecaketoapologizeforbeingsilly" I said all in one breath. Giving a small chuckle, he accepted the cake and nodded once; you now, the badass nod. We both just stood there for a while in a long, awkward silence. Not knowing what to do, I just took a seat next to him on the bench while he was busy tapping his pencil on a book.

"So, do you write music?" I asked him curiously.

Giving me a crooked smile, he nodded and pulled out a music sheet, with notes and markings scribbled all over the page. Frowning, I looked at the notes and tried to decipher each and every one of them.

"You won't understand what I've written" he said laughing at me. It was a genuine laugh and it something that I had never heard coming out of his mouth before. Laughing along with him, I shook my head and handed it back to him.

"You're right; I don't get any of this" I said as a matter of factly. From talking to him, I learnt that he could play the violin, the cello, the piano, the guitar, the saxophone, the drums, the clarinet and the flute.

I was utterly speechless.

"Well, I can play the triangle" I said lamely, but proudly.

"So, can I hear you play one day?"

"If you want to, maybe if you're free on Saturday, I could show you" he said with a small smile.

"Sure, Saturday then" I said smiling happily. I was really happy for some reason; though it may have been the sugar in the muffin I had eaten for breakfast that morning. All of a sudden, Henry appeared out of no where and greeted me. Seeing him, I jumped up from my seat and completely forgot about Rain.

"Hi, Mel" Henry said with that dreamy voice of his.

I smiled in what I thought to be a composed manner and tried not to seem too excited to see him.

"Hi" I replied. The butterflies in my stomach were at war.

"I was just wondering, would you like to catch a movie of Saturday?" he asked me with a dashing smile. Not thinking twice, I immediately agreed.

"I'll see you on Saturday then" he said, giving me a wink before he walked off. Clasping my hands together excitedly, I wanted to scream in pure joy and tell the whole world. When I turned back, I saw Rain and all of a sudden, I felt as if someone had poured a bucket full of icy water over my head.

"Oh my fish, I'm so sorry" I said closing both hands over my mouth. I was stupid, no, I was really, really stupid. For a moment, I had forgotten that he was there, forgotten that I had agreed to come and hear him play on Saturday.

His face was etched with disappointment but at the same time, he had an understanding smile on his face, which just killed me. He stood up and slid his bag onto his bag shoulder and pushed his glasses back onto the bridge of his nose.

"I…I just, I just" I muttered, unable to find the words.

"It's okay, maybe some other time yeah?" he said twiddling the pen in his left hand.

"See you"

I just stood there feeling as guilty as ever and watched him walk away.

I was a bitch.

Saturday came round and I paced around my room in my bunny slippers while racking up my brains. I really didn't know what to do. One side of me argued that I should just cancel with Henry and go with Rain but I couldn't do that. This was because the other side of me was saying that if I didn't go with Henry, then I'd regret it deeply. Well, you know what I did? I flipped a coin. Tails was Rain and Heads was Henry. After I flipped it, being really bad with hand-eye coordination, I failed to catch it and it landed on my desk while it was still spinning. I clasped my hands over my eyes and waited until it stopped before taking in a deep breath and turning around. I slowly inched towards the table and opened one eye. It was Heads and it was final; no Rain, just Henry.

That night, I remember standing outside waiting for Henry in my casual white dress while thoughts of Rain were racing through my mind. After a few minutes of thinking, I decided that I was going to ditch Henry and run off to find Rain. But just at the moment, someone grabbed my hand gently and I turned around to see Henry. As always, he looked amazing.

"Hey Mel, you look great" he said with a smile.

Licking my dry lips, I smiled and swallowed the lump that had risen up to my throat.

"Hi" I replied. Entwining his fingers with mine, he led me to his car and opened the door for me. Offering him a small smile, I got in and shook my head. It was too late.

"Change of plans Mel, my friend is having a house party and I was thinking that it would be a great idea if we went" he said starting up the engine.

"Oh, okay" I said trying to sound excited. He didn't seem to notice the fake enthusiasm and disappointment in my voice and just gave me a smile.

Parties weren't my thing and the minute I stepped into his friend's massive house, I immediately regretted it. They were smoking and drinking and some of them were already wasted. It was hot and smelly in the house with alcohol stench hanging in the air. I almost vomited when I saw the alcohol vomits pools that were on the floor.

Henry led me to where his friends were and honestly, I didn't know that he hung out with these people until that moment. I didn't like the way they were studying me, specifically, my chest. One guy handed Henry a bottle and he quickly drained in with gusto, followed by another and another and another. I couldn't believe my eyes.

"Um, excuse me, I need to use the bathroom" I said to Henry, giving his arm a gentle squeeze. I remember trying my best not to get squished by the mass of dancing bodies. When I safely reached the toilet, I opened the door and let out a little squeak. It was an utter mess. Wet clumps of tissue were glued to the ceiling and the toilet seat was covered in yellow liquid. It wasn't pretty. Saving myself, I made my way back to Henry and when I saw him, I stopped in my tracks; he was in a lip lock with some slender brunette.

Right there and then, I knew I had, had enough and quietly, I slipped out of the house. The cool air was so comforting and I made my way to the nearest bus stop. Standing there, I immediately knew that Henry was not the guy for me. Sure, he was smart and good looking, but he had this whole other side to him that I didn't know about. Twilight had fallen by the time I got back to the college and I slowly made my way inside. Half way to my dorm, the thought of Rain slipped into my mind and I smiled to myself and ran off to find him.

I didn't even know why I was running or why I wanted to see him, but for some reason, I felt like I needed to. Being as clumsy as I was, I slipped while I was running and fell on my rear end.

Even thinking about it now makes me cringe.

Cursing the slippery floor, I struggled to get up. All of a sudden, I heard a familiar chuckle and I was lifted off the ground. I turned around and realized that it was Rain and a smile immediately spread across my face. He wasn't wearing his glasses and he looked different, in a good way.

"The floor do something to you?" he asked me with amusement dancing in his eyes.

Blushing, I wiped the dirt of my dress and didn't look back up at him.

"I'm sorry Rain, I'm such a bitch. I shouldn't have bailed out on you so obliviously like that, if I wasn't so ignorant then maybe- "

"Mel..." he said interrupting me. I tore my gaze away from the floor and looked up at him. Shoving his hands into his pockets casually, he smiled and shook his head.

"It's okay, don't say that about yourself"

"But I-"

"You wanted to hear me play right?"

Without waiting for my answer, he just took hold of my hand and led me to the music hall. His hand was warm and comforting and I felt all bubbly inside and this brought a smile to my face. The hall was quiet and empty and only the stage was lit.

"Won't be a sec" he said to me as he let go of my hand and ran onto stage, grabbing the guitar that was leaning against the chair. I sat myself down in one of the front row seats while he sat on the edge of the stage right in front of me. Giving me a crooked smile, he began strumming a soft tune on the guitar whilst rocking back and forth slowly. He then started to sing and I can tell you, he sounded amazing, with that soothing voice of his.

I've always wondered what you're thinking of

What you dream of when you sleep

Just like a song, you're in my mind, always

There are no words that could,

Describe the way I feel about you

Sometimes chances don't come that easily

So I want to tell you, tell you, tell you

I love you, I love you, I love you

I can tell you, I fell in love with him right at that moment. After he finished the song, he hopped down from the stage and walked towards me. Taking my hand, he smiled and slowly leaned in towards my face. Don't worry, I didn't punch him.

"I love you" he whispered softly in my ear. His lips brushed softly against my left cheek and then they eventually found their way onto my own. I wrapped my arms around his neck and closed my eyes.

It was the most perfect first kiss in the whole wide world.

Breaking away, he murmured, "Always have"

Smiling at him and I whispered the words of his song to him "I want to tell you, tell you, tell you… I love you"

I was shallow, like majorly if you haven't picked that up already. I was ignorant and never saw the good things in him until I came back down to reality and realized he was and is the most amazing guy ever. I love everything about him; from his slightly big ears to his lameness, from his smiles to the way he looks at me, from the way he sings to me to the way he to cuddles me when it's cold, from the way he refuses to let go of me when we hug to say goodbye to the way he runs back for another peck and from the way he kisses me to the way he tells me he loves me.

Fate brought me Rain Simmons, the guy I am just about to get married to now.

The End

Please tell me what you thought of it :D Btw, if you're wondering about the song he was singing, it's actually a piece i made for the acoustic guitar and i know the lyrics are a bit bleh, but it sounds better sung. Anyway, you've probably noticed that there isn't any description about how Mel looks and this because i wanted to let it be up to you guys to conjure up an image of her. But basically, she would've been around 5"6 at height with chestnut brown hair and blue eyes. If you guys find any imagea that you think would match any of my characters, feel free to send them to me through pm and i'll post them up in a blog that i'll put up later on.

Thanks, remember to review. =]
