I Can Only
I recently visited the UN on a trip. While I was there, I was struck by the exhibits on war and its aftermath. The displays so moved me that I sat right down and wrote this poem.
Surrounded by so many pictures
of destruction and death,
I can only wonder at what has become of our world.
The fear fills me until I want to run away from it,
far away,
but I can only stay rooted in place.
I do not know what to do.
I do not know where to go.
I can only stand and watch
as the world falls apart around me.
