Title Page: Rai, Kanlan, Sato, Ayame, and Ryuu are all huddled together, smiling and holding out their fists. Rai, Sato and Ryuu all have on khaki pants and dress shirts. Rai is wearing a black hoodie over his shirt. Kanlan and Ayame are wearing school girl uniforms.

Kanlan smiled as she walked up to the schools gates, her bag slung over her shoulder. The school grounds were filled with students. People bustled around her, some going to class and others just wandering around.

My name is Kanlan Silverstar, I'm a second year at Kagirinari High. It's a really great school.

I've lived in this town my whole life. It's a great place to live and there are a lot of real nice people here too. Yet despite that…I only have a few friends here. That's fine though, the ones I do have are great. They all go here too.

As she walked up to the main doors she saw Ryuu with his group of friends leaning against the wall.

Oh yeah, my brother goes here to.

"Hey sis!" He called to her. Kanlan smiled and waved at him. Pushing the doors open, she stepped into the hallway, where more students were waiting for school to start.

I guess you could consider me a normal school girl…except…

As she adjusted the strap on her shoulder on her shoulder she heard someone call out to her.

"Kanlan!" Megumi exclaimed as she came running up to her. She looked frightened. Kanlan blinked at the girl's behavior.

"Megumi, what is it?"

That's Megumi, a third year, and one of my best friends. Her father owns a real good restaurant in town. I've known her almost my whole life.

Megumi fidgeted in front of the school girl.

"Uh well…" She said nervously, "It's Ayame again…" She said. Kanlan immediately sighed.

"Gya!" A big student flew backwards, blood flowing from his nose. The pink haired girl smirked and lowered her foot.

"What? That all you guys got?" She taunted. The three remaining boys all snarled.

"Damn this pink haired chick," One said.

"Bitch! You think you can just make fun of us and get away with it!?" The one in the middle, the leader, demanded.

"Bleeeeh!" Ayame stuck out her tongue. Veins throbbed in the bullies' heads.

"Damn her…" The leader muttered, clenching his fists. He rushed at her, "I'll tear you apart!"

The leader flew to the side as a foot collided with the side of his face. Kanlan skidded across the ground as she landed. She stood in front of a surprised Ayame.

"Ah damn! It's that Silverstar girl," one of the remaining thugs grimaced. Kanlan glared at all of them.

"Don't you morons have anything better to do?" She asked.

These four jokers are Kani, Ichimaru, Suzuki, and their leader's, Zero. They're just a bunch of third year bullies.

"Geez, forget this," Kani muttered, "I don't want to get into a fight with a bunch of chicks. I'm outta here," The two remaining bullies who were still standing turned around and started to walk away.

"Damn…when did she get so tough…?" Suzuki asked.

"Feh…ever since she started hanging around with him, she's always butting in when we try to have some fun,"

Ayame huffed as the two walked away.

"I could've taken them," She said. Kanlan sighed.

"You shouldn't get into so many fights Ayame," She told her.

That's Ayame Shuzuka. She's in my class. I just met her this year, she's a little weird, but…not a bad girl.

Ayame smiled cheerfully.

"They were asking for it, making all those passes at me," She held up her hand, "Look! I got their lunch money too!" Kanlan and Megumi sweat dropped. Suddenly the bell rang.

"Well, this has been fun, but I should get going," Megumi giggled, "See you two later,"

"Bye!" Kanlan waved after her, "Come on, let's go. We don't want to be late," Ayame smiled.

The sun was starting to set as Kanlan walked past the gates to her family's mansion. The school girl yawned as she shifted her bag to the other shoulder.

"Ugh…stupid science…" She muttered, "Why does sensei have to give so much homework?" Kanlan opened the large door to her house.

"…Good evening Miss Kanlan," Natsumi greeted her.

"Hey Natsumi," Kanlan replied.

That's Natsumi, she's one of the maids here. After my parents died, she was the one to took care of me when Grandfather wasn't around.

"How was school?" the maid asked.

"Oh, same as always," Kanlan smiled, she dropped her bag on a table by the staircase and ran toward a hallway.

"Later Natsumi! I'm gonna grab something to eat!" Natsumi smiled and waved after her. A minute later Kanlan found herself in the kitchen. Ryuu was sitting at the table, eating an apple.

"Hey sis, finally home?" He smirked.

"Oh shut up," She muttered, "…Just because you can drive…" Kanlan opened the refrigerator and grabbed some grapes and juice.

"Why are you dressed like that?" She asked Ryuu, who was wearing white kamishimo.

"You don't remember anything do you?" Ryuu smirked, "I've got that Kendo tournament tonight,"

"Oh yeah," Kanlan said, "That's right"

"So you get the whole night to study science without me bugging you," he chuckled, "and maybe raise that horrible grade of yours,"

"…stuff it…" Kanlan muttered, her head on the table.

"Now now…let's get along shall we," An old, but strong voice said. Jiro entered the room, smiling at his grandchildren.

"Hey Grandfather," Kanlan and Ryuu both said.

That's my Grandfather, Jiro Silverstar. He owns this huge mansion. His family helped build this town, so that's why he owns so much land.

"Are you ready Ryuu?" Jiro asked, "We should get going," Ryuu nodded, smirking.

"Oh yeah!" He said excitedly, "I'm ready!" Jumping up from his seat he rushed out of the room to grab his things. Kanlan watched him with half lidded eyes.

"He's got way too much energy," She sighed. Jiro chuckled.

"He's getting strong, It's only natural,"

"Well…at least I'll have some peace and quiet around tonight," Kanlan said, leaning back in her chair. Jiro raised an eyebrow.

"I think you forgot something Kanlan," he told her. Kanlan looked at him.

"It's Thursday," he told her.

"What does that…oh…" she said, she suddenly groaned, "ah man…that means I'll have to put up with him all night!" Jiro chuckled as Kanlan rubbed the sides of her head.

"Uh…Kanlan?" Ryuu poked his head inside the room, "Your tutors outside napping in the Sakura Tree again," Kanlan groaned.

"Ugh…Fine…" She said, getting up, "I'll get him," She left the room, Ryuu and Jiro smiling behind her.

The sky was painted orange. The light barely reflected off the pink petals in the tree. A long figure rested on one of the larger branches, his hands behind his head and his legs swinging back and forth. Kanlan stopped a few feet away from the tree.

"You know you could just knock," She said.

"I got here before you did, I needed to find a way to pass the time," A smug voice replied. Kanlan blew her hair out her face as he dropped to the ground.

"By the way, nice to see you to Kan," The green eyed boy smirked. She rolled her eyes.

"Hey Rai," She said. Rai smirked again. He was wearing dark blue jeans and a red sleeveless shirt. The black hoodie that he always wore was unzipped around his torso.

Rai Shikon, my science tutor. I'm kinda…really bad at the subject so Grandfather wanted me to get a tutor. And for some reason…I got stuck with this guy.

"Come on," Kanlan said, motioning for him to follow, "Let's go inside,"

"Nope, that's wrong," Rai told her bluntly. Kanlan scowled. It was dark outside and Jiro and Ryuu had long since left. It was just the two of them sitting in the living room. Kanlan was curled up on the couch while Rai sat cross legged on the floor, holding up flash cards.

"Force is mass times velocity, and speed and velocity aren't the same thing,"

"Ugh! This is hopeless!" Kanlan said angrily, "We've been at this for two hours and I still don't get it!"

"Then let's just try again," Rai said, unaffected by her mood.

"What we're doing isn't working. Damn…some tutor you are…" Rai's eye twitched.

"Hey…" He said. Kanlan stopped and took a deep breath.

"Ah…sorry," She said, embarrassed, "It's just…I'm really bad, and it's frustrating,"

"Then we try again," He repeated, "You'll get it eventually,"

"Damn…" She said, "I just wanna give up,"

"You can't do that," Rai told her.

"Why not? Will I ever actually need to know this stuff?" Rai sighed.

"It's not the science, it's the principle. If you give up on this, you'll be doing it the rest of your life," Kanlan smirked.

"Che, you sound like a fortune cookie," she told him.

"Just shut up and work," He said, smirking a bit.

The moon was shining brightly overhead, illuminating the mansion. Four shadowed figures ran across the lawn toward the large house.

Rai stepped up behind Kanlan's unmoving form.

"Geez…" He said, cocking his head, "Asleep already?" Kanlan head was resting on the table, her eyes were closed and the pencil was still in her hand.

"Huuuuhhh…" Rai sighed, "What a pain…" His eyes suddenly narrowed as he saw something move out of the corner of his eye. A shape moved quickly past the window. Rai turned and stared out into the night.

Zero smirked as he stepped up to the side of the Silverstar mansion. Kani, Ichimaru and Suzuki were standing behind him. They all had cans of spray paint in their hands.

"Damn," Ichimaru whistled, "This chick's got a hell of a nice place,"

"Heh heh, it won't looks so nice after we're done with it," Kani laughed. Zero laughed.

"Heh, this'll teach that bitch to mess with us,"

"Let's hurry up and do this before someone see's us," Suzuki said. Zero scowled.

"I know, I know," He turned to the houses wall and raised the can of paint.

"This is gonna be-GYAAA!!" Zero flew to the side when a foot slammed into the side of his face. He hit the ground and rolled a dozen feet before stopping in a bed of flowers, his eyes swirling.

"What the!?" Kani shouted, turning, "Who the he-" He trailed off and his face went pale. The others mirrored his expression.

"Shit!" Suzuki exclaimed, "It's Shikon!" Rai stared at the three with dark eyes. His hands were in his pockets and he was wiping blood off his shoe.

"huuuuh…W-what're you doing here!?" Kani stammered.

"That's my line," Rai answered, "What do you think you're doing?" Kani gulped.

"W-we…we weren't doing anything,"

"I don't like liars," Rai said as Kani flew backwards. Suzuki and Ichimaru watched him terrified as he began to walk towards them.

"W-wait…" Suzuki said slowly, "Can't we talk about this?" Rai's eyes narrowed.

Kanlan rubbed her eyes as she lifted her head off the desk. She yawned tiredly.

"...Rai…?" She said groggily as he walked into the room, stretching his arm.

"Yo," He answered.

"I thought I heard something," Kanlan blinked, rubbing her eye. Rai shrugged.

"You must have been dreaming," he said.

"Oh…" Kanlan said, yawning again. Rai watched her for a bit.

"…It's late, you should get to bed," he finally said, "You've done enough studying," Kanlan looked at the clock. It read 11:45.

"…is it okay for you to be out this late?" She asked. Rai didn't look at her as he sat down on the couch.

"Who's gonna miss me?" he asked. Kanlan's face softened.

That's right…

"…Hey, I want to study just a bit more, could you help me?" Rai looked over at her.

The hallway was crowded as the students rushed through it.

"For the last time, I'm not lending you any money," Rai said, irritated, as he walked through the hallway.

"Come on," Sato pleaded, next to him, "I don't have any for lunch,"

"Then don't lose it gambling," Rai muttered.

"B-but…what'll I eat?" Sato asked.

"Eat out of the trash for all I care,"

"Raaaaaiiii…" Sato wailed, tears streaming down his face. Rai sweat dropped. His eyes widened when he bumped into someone.

"Oh, sorry," Rai apologized. He raised an eyebrow when he saw who it was. It was Ayame.

"Hey Rai," Ayame said, "Have you seen Kanlan around?"

"No," Rai answered, "Not since this morning," Ayame frowned.

"That's weird," She said, "Where could she be?"

"Why don't you ask-Ack!" Rai gagged when a paper was suddenly shoved into his face.

"Check it out!" An exited and familiar voice exclaimed.

"…" Rai scowled as he removed the paper Kanlan had shoved into his face.

"What is your…" He trailed off as he looked at the sheet in his hands, he held it up to get another look. His eyes were wide in surprise. It was a science test. He lowered the paper, revealing Kanlan's smiling face.

"I got an eighty five!" She said happily. Rai ran a hand through his hair, looking at the grade.

"Unbelievable…" He muttered. The paper was taken from his hands. He looked up to see Kanlan giving him a small smile.

"Thank you," She said. Rai took a breath. Then giving her one of his rare smiles

"It's what I'm here for," he said. They punched their fists together.

Rai Shikon, my annoying science tutor…and a really great friend…

"Come on," Rai said, walking towards the school doors, "We'll go out for lunch, your treat," Sato and Ayame followed.

"Sounds go-Hey!" Kanlan shouted, "Why am I buying!?"

"You're the one who got the good grade,"

"Wha…how does that make sense!?" Rai just smirked while Sato and Ayame laughed.

"Rai!" Kanlan shouted angrily, running after him.

"Rai! Rai! Listen me damn it! SHIKON !"
