The way things work.

This school was messed up. This was the conclusion after spending just five minutes in the main office.

"And what's your name dear?" A woman appearing to be about the age of thirty-six with a trace of a southern accent asked.

"Jessica Martino" I replied.

"You're the scholarship student, right?" She asked.

"Yes ma'am." I looked around as the lady looked over my transcripts. The school seemed nice enough. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't crap either. My thoughts of how well I'd actually adjust were interrupted, by the most beautiful creature I'd ever laid eyes on.

A boy who seemed to be about the age of sixteen or so, walked by the front door of the office; usually I'm not the type to gawk over guys.—well actually I am, but this guy was hot. And he knew it. He had a pretty white teeth (don't ask me why that was the first thing I noticed.) And amazing blonde hair and it wasn't the ugly type of blonde hair people usually seem to fawn over.

The secretary just looked me up and down. She looked around as if somebody would be watching her. She leaned in real close and whispered. "Sweetie, let me tell you. You seem to be one sweet girl. Don't let him distract you." The venom in her voice when she said him made me wince. Think of Spencer Pratt venom.

"Um, thank you?" I said, making it sound more of a question than an actual statement.

The secretary only sighed. "You'll see soon. It happens every time."

I guess must've looked really confused, because the secretary lady tried once more to explain.

"I'm gonna be real honest, Hun. That boy—once again, the venom in her voice completely evident—will just use ya. Once he dunks his cookie in your milk, he's gone."

Cookie….milk? What was he, the cookie monster?

The secretary shook her head, and handed me my schedule. "Just watch out ok?"

"thank you Mrs…"

"Mrs. Shirley, but please call me Jodie."

"Thank you, Mrs. Sh—I mean Jodie; I'll be sure to keep my milk inside of the carton."

Jodie laughed. "I like you already."

I smiled at Jodie, as I exited out of the main office. Looking at the schedule to see which classes I'd be having and when, I accidentally bumped into somebody, knocking my math and Science books unto the floor. Oh great.

"I'm so sorry. I'm new—"

"yeah, obviously."

I looked up to see gorgeous boy.

Me, being the genius that I am, decided to say the first thing that came to my mind. "Do you have a thing for cookies?"

The boy looked confused. Then he smiled. "Actually, I was just on my way to get some oreos from the vending machine."

Haha, I'm sorry if it's short, but I was just writing this out of scratch.
