The dark streets seemed to stretch on forever in the pitch black night. Her pounding heart and thumping feet as she ran through the darkened alleyways frightened her the most, because, somehow, she knew that he could hear all of it. And she wouldn't be able to hear him at all. Her mother had always said not to stay out late. Shania wished she had listened to her mothers words now.

"Remember this mustn't stay out after dark."

4 year-old Shania tugged impatiantley on her mothers dress, demanding her attention. "Why? I'm not afraid of the dark." she whinged.

"I know. You're my brave little girl." Her mother had said, putting away the stack of plates and bending down to pick Shania up. "But when it comes dark, the bad things come out. And you don't want to be around when that happens, do you?"

"No." Shania said. "But I'm strong!" she said, flexing her arms. "I can protect myself!"

"I'm sure you can, sweetheart. But just remember; a hero can't be strong at all times." Putting Shania down, Shania's mother turned back to the dishes she was drying, calling after Shania as she ran off to her room. "Play safe!"

"Don't worry!" came the reply. "This hero is strong!"

As she turned the corner, her heart lept out of her chest as she saw the dark figure descend swiftly from the rooftops. He stepped forward, just enough for his face to be illuminated in the moonlight.

Tripping on a small rock, Shania fell forward into the arms of the man following her.

"That's right." he said quietly, holding her tightly in his grasp. "Come to me."

"Let me go, you bastard!" she screeched, hoping to alert someone. "Let me go! Or I'll......I'll.....I'll call the cops!

He laughed menacingly, and held her even tighter. "But who would believe you? I highly doubt a police officer would believe such a crazy story. They'd probably just blame it on the stress of your pregnancy and a good imagination."

Shania stiffened for a moment, then started squirming again. "How did you know about that, you monster?!"

He chuckled darkly. "I know everything about you Shania. Everything." He placed his hand on her stomach. It wasn't big yet. That was good. He hated eating pregnant woman. They were so.........distasteful.

All of a sudden he felt something connect to his lower half and a shot of pain went up his torso, causing him to drop Shania. Realizing she had kicked him in the most private region of his body, he went to hit her, to make her pay for what she had done, but instead found her lying down about half a meter from him, throwing up and making low, whimpering noises.

"Get up bitch!" he yelled, grabbing a fistful of her hair and pulling her up. He was shocked to see tears streaming down her face. She looked so......well, there was only one word for it. Beautiful. Shaking his head, he pulled her up closer to him. She was still making that annoying whimpering noise.

"Shut up!", he said, throwing her back onto the ground.

He crouched down next to her and shoved her hair away from her ear so she could her him properly. "Listen, there's two ways we can do this. The easy way or the hard way. It's your choice."

Hearing no reply, he skimmed his lips across her smooth skin until he reached her neck. He rested his lips over pulsating vein he could feel beneath.

Then he opened his mouth to reveal gleaming white fangs.

A/N: Hello everyone. I'm probably gonna regret starting this while I'm writing another story, but oh well :) . This is one short prologue. It only took me what, 10 minutes to write? Anyway, hows everyone doing? The beginning of this story is gonna be quite boring, because I have to introduce the characters and such, but don't worry. It'll get better later on. Enough of me blabbing on.

Please read and review. I'd love to know what you think.
