I try to lift up a little more
Than I know I can
I don't like to be sore
I want to be looked at as what I am
I want to be ignorant
So I can be confident
I want people to see me on the inside
And right now ignorance is what I do to hide the outside
I'm fine
I will say
Because I want to see twenty-twenty, eye to eye
I can do anything I want in a certain way
I want you to know
I know what I can and can't say
There are people who do not understand
What it is like to have a disability in your hand
They may laugh or tease or jeer
But it is their own ignorance they fear
And it is our job to be mature and not to care
And all our life may we have it pulling at our hair
But the outer shell is all they can see
And don't have many possibilities
But to look down at those who cant see as well as them
But they don't know how much we really can
I wish no one cared about the outside
It is only an image that holds a million lies
And all the truths and wonders are on the inside
I don't care what or who but it is always the same
The outer shell was created in for something to hide in
A protector from the rain
Can we turn inside out and keep that part in?
If only, then a new world would begin
I don't want to be lower than any of you
As equality is my point of view
And I can do what you can do, but I want you to be aware
That a disability will never chain me to a chair
And if you wont listen I'll put ignorance back on
To hide the outer shell of me
And my heart and soul will be all you'll ever see
