Written for The Review Game's September WCC. Enjoy :)

The lights dim slowly, the loudness in the room echoes, and all eyes are turned to the stage, waiting and watching with anticipation gripped in their throats. A special night has arrived and someone's life is about to be come meaningful.

Anne couldn't breathe.

It is like waiting for a truck to hit you dead in the middle of a road. Such painful anxiety should never be felt by one person. But she is feeling it, living it, and soon her goals may or may not be answered in a second, a long, grueling second.

Anne wished to curl up in a ball rather than face the deathly truth. Her dreams could be shattered if she was not good enough, smart enough, and if her creativity was worthless, all would be lost. Those demented thoughts that kept her heart pounding violently swarmed her brain; hope cannot seep through.

And through all this anxious mayhem a single memory soared through her brain...

"If you have a dream that's been put inside you, then don't hide it! If you have a dream that has been broken, shattered, or has been crushed by the ones around you, then do not fear for He keeps your dreams alive. You see, that dream that's been inside you for so many years, that's been molding and shaping you destiny is the same dream God placed inside you!"

That was the day Anne's life had changed. That very sermon seemed to have started a fierce revival in her heart that was long since destroyed by the hatred and things that consumed the world. Anne's dream was always turned down by adults, teachers, friends, and family...no one would believe in her. They refused to acknowledge the fact that she could be special; she could be someone who would change the world...

Speaking truthfully, Anne believed it herself that she would never amount to anything ever in history. The precious dream she had cherished for so long was ripped away from her, stolen in the blink of an eye because of simple, revolting words that declared her loss. She had thought she had lost, but that sermon taught her the truth.

It was hiding from Anne, cowering because of all the spite and disgust that consumed her. However, once she knew that no one could prevent this dream from growing and sprouting and changing the world, it exploded out of her chest and shined clearer then the brightest day of summer.

"No one can stop you from doing what you are called to do, but the Devil will do anything to bring you down. He'll whisper lies to you through other people, maybe even the people you trust the most. Things like, 'You're worthless. You're useless. You'll never amount to anything! Why do you even try?!' But it's only lies. He says these things because you're dream will affect many lives!'

He was right.

Anne no longer felt bondages that kept her trapped in a tight little bubble. She no longer hid her special gift, but flaunted it to everyone, hoping they would somehow take something good out of it. Slowly but surely, it worked its magic through the core of people, and before Anne's very eyes lives were changed.

She affected them; she helped them...

"Trust in God. Trust in him because that seed that was placed inside of you so long age is from him! He knew you before time began! He wrote your ending before the beginning! He has a destiny planned out for you like no other!"

The speakers across the large auditorium blare loudly, "And the award goes to..." The tense quietness became suddenly more alert than ever before. People watch the announcer with ample eyes, fervently waiting for the name to pour out of his mouth.

Anne's breath hitches, her forehead begins to sweat, her legs feel jittery, and her awaiting eyes stare at the presenter, watering up with fear and hope. She prays silently that she would finally touch the goal she was set out to accomplish.

"Anne Lorette!"

"It says so in His word that he has prepared your path with greatness, but you must be willingly to take it! If you hesitate or complain or say, 'God I don't know if I'm good enough. God, I'm not ready to face the difficulties,' then God will pass it to another. You must take control over those hardships and rebuke the pain the Devil wants to cause you! You must take your dream with a striving heart and say, 'God, I'm ready!'"

Anne's heart skips a beat as her name is yelled throughout the large theater. People begin to clap with cheer and respect. Hands rub her back with congrats, urging her to go and receive her prize.

Anne feels her legs lift her torso off the chair. Her feet drag her towards the magnificent stage where all the spotlights dart towards her as she steps up the stairs. It is like a lucid dream as the presenter shakes her hand and places the award in her arm...

A dream that is alive.

"God has chosen you! As it says in Matthew 22:14..."

Roars of applause fill the room. Anne's mind is swirling with disbelief and laughter, rejoicing with all her heart at the little gold trophy that her hands hug tightly. People began to stand up and clap even louder as she smiles brightly with endearing happiness.

"The Academy Award for best director goes to Anne Lorette!" The announcer yells before letting Anne speak.

Anne stares at the microphone curiously, wondering what to say at such a high and mighty moment as this. But as a hinting smirk presses against her cheeks and a single line rushes through her mind, she knows what to say...

"For many are called, but few are chosen."
