The Optimist
I went past the field
Past the vineyard
Why couldn't he see what was going on?
His garden infested with weeds
His wall chipped and destroyed
It became ruins
So I gave it a little thought
And this is what I discovered
If you give up
And you get down
You submit to your troubles
Then it will sneak up on you
Like a bandit
An armed man
Silently and slowly
Lurking and ever coming closer
Why couldnt he see
That it was destroying him
Goes on everyday like
Nothing has gone wrong
Plays his little guitar
Sits on that same faded stone step
Optimistic hearts, bless them
Happy up until their deaths
If you give up
And you get down
You submit to your troubles
Then it will sneak up on you
Like a bandit
An armed man
Silently and slowly
Lurking and ever coming closer
So why does he smile
Because he can thats why
If he screamed
Would they hear him?
If he gave up
Would they save him?
He lives in his own little paradise
A sweet reprieve
As evil floats around him like a mist
He will still smile
If you give up
And you get down
You submit to your troubles
Then it will sneak up on you
Like a bandit
An armed man
Silently and slowly
Lurking and ever coming closer
If you give up
And you get down
You submit to your troubles
Then it will sneak up on you
Like a bandit
An armed man
Silently and slowly
Lurking and ever coming closer
So when the sun sets on the rest of the world
He sees only the rising of the moon
He looks up to the skys above
And listens to the guidance
Of those long lost
To their sorrow
To their pain
To their misery
If you give up
And you get down
You submit to your troubles
Then it will sneak up on you
Like a bandit
An armed man
Silently and slowly
Lurking and ever coming closer
So why not smile
Because he can
Watch as it all
Crumbles around him
For the optimist remains
Optimistic through all
He will stand strong
While the others fall.
