Earth Echo

How many times do you look at yourself
And ponder why your marbles won't fit on a shelf
So you could live far away from any work or wear
With nothing but a smile and the breeze in your hair

Unless like me you've got none
Round as the winter sun
So chilly without a hat
A giggling brook or a babbling brat

O where do these minutes fly
As in darkness I lie
To ponder the cold of the silent sea floor
With sand in my head and a dream at my door

Then ages appease
Around desertstruck knees
The beam of the marble striking with ease
When all that I want is to freeze and to freeze

My wish evolves
So that memory solves
An iceberg of worry and wisdom and woe
To lie in the ground
Without action or sound
Is a quieter death than the life that you know
