Chapter 1

I don't think I've ever been happier in my life. I'm finally escaping this hell hole called my life. Wait, I should start over. Hi, I'm Taylor Parks. I'm 16 and I got accepted to Briarwood Academy, a boarding school in Manhattan. You're probably thinking, she's crazy for wanting to go to a boarding school halfway across the country. Well, I beg to differ. You see, my life is a piece of crap. I have no friends at school. Never had a boyfriend. My mom left my father and I when I was two months old. My dad sexually abused me until I was 14. Yeah, I'd say my life pretty much sucks.

But this isn't supposed to be some pity party, feel-sorry-for-me story. This is about my attempt to turn my life around.

After an awkward hug goodbye from my dad, I boarded Flight C-27. After walking up and down the crowded aisles, trying to find my seat, I realized I had a First Class seat, courtesy of Briarwood. I pulled out my iPod and drifted to sleep. About three hours later, I was being shaken awake by the overly peppy flight attendant. She followed me all the way back into the airport just to make sure i was okay. I told her I was fine and she finally left me alone. I got my suitcase from the spinny luggage thingy and went to wait outside.

There was a limo driver holding a sign with "Briarwood Academy Students" written across in big black letters. I showed him my boarding pass to confirm my name, and he opened the door for me. There we three other teenagers in the limo, two girls and a boy. The girls were the preppy, over excited type. They were gabbing about how much fun Briarwood will be. I really hope everyone isn't like this.

I turned away from the girls when I realized I was staring. Instead, I focused my attention on the guy sitting across from me. He was tall, like six feet. He had short blonde hair with a tint of red and a small goatee. He had silver wire framed glasses and a nice smile. I then realized he was smiling at me. I was staring again. I blushed and quicky looked out the window. He leaned forward and said "Hi, I'm Jeff." I smiled and said "Taylor." He smiled and leaned back. I continued to look out the window as we pulled into Briarwood.

Briarwood Academy was very, very nice. It had six buildings- girls dorms, boys dorms, math and science builing, english and history building, and a recreational building with a dining hall and the staff building- all connected by a large grassy courtyard. The courtyard had benches, coffee and snack stands, and a large gazeebo. Off to the side, there was a football frield with a track around it and a basketball/tennis court. I have never seen a nicer school in my life.

I went to the staff building and got my room assignment and class schedule. Even though I'm a junior, I had two mainly senior classes. I guess that means I'm pretty smart. I thanked the secratary and grabbed a map off the counter. I located my room and saw I was not alone. There were two girls around my age standing in the room.

"Uh... Hi. I'm Taylor." I said as I walked into the room. They both spun around and smiled.

"Hi. I'm Shane." The redhead said. She had bluish gray eyes and a soft smile. She stuck her hand out and I shook it gently.

"I'm Elise." the brunette said. She smiled, revealing braces. Her carmel brown eyes seemed to light up as well. I could tell I was going to like them.

"You're knew,arent you?" Elise asked.

"How can you tell?"

"You seem shy. That's how I was last year, when I started coming."

I nodded and turned to Shane. "How long have you been going to Briarwood?"

"Since sixth grade, when you're first allowed to come. My brother came the year before, and it sounded so awesome I came the next year. I've been here ever since."

"Wow." I smiled and looked around the rooms. "So, which bed is mine?"

"Oh, I hope you don't mind, but we already set up our stuff on the bunk beds. Is the single bed okay for you?"

That's exactly what I wanted. "Yep. Completely cool." I smiled and set my suitcase down.

Shane and Elise helped me unpack my suitcase and set up my closet and bed. We had finally finished and I collapsed on my bed, closing my eyes. I heard a male voice that sounded familiar. I slowly opened my eyes to see Jeff, the guy from the limo. He was talking to Shane

"Here's your card for the month." He handed her the student card with all her money for the month, the same one I recieved from my dad approximatly five hours ago.

"Thanks. Now leave. You're annoying me."

"How can I be annoying you if I just got here?"

"I don't know, you just are!" She smiled and punched him. Shane then turned to me.

"Jeff, this is our new roommate, Ta-"

"Taylor." He said.

"Yeah, how'd you know?"

"Taylor and I were in the limo together." Shane and Elise nodded, understanding now.

"Taylor, this is my brother. If he gives you any problems, just let me know and I'll beat him up." Shane explained to me. He kind of gave her a 'yeah right' look and directed his attention back to me. I kinda half waved and he smiled at me. I couldn't help but blush. What is it with him and making me blush?

"So, you guys hungry? Dinner's free the first night." Jeff asked us, still looking at me.

"Sure, lets go." Elise said. The three of us grabbed our cell phones and Shane grabbed the room key and we walked over towards the dining hall.

Yeah I know, it's a sucky ending for the chapter. But please review anyway!! Thank you!! Hope you enjoyed!! Check back for chapter two!
