It was that time of day again. Something was going down in the city, something the Static Police couldn't handle on their own. Experience reminded them about the risks they will take.
After all, their outward appearance means nothing. They're still human. They can still be mortally wounded by even a minor bullet; there would be no difference of whether that bullet was the archaic lead style, the modern plasma or electric style, or even the experimental laser gun style.
Kash and Mir readied themselves for another day in their life. Their life is not your life, not should it ever be. But to them, it was... typical. In fact, you might even consider, if the dreaded thought was to cross your mind that they are, in fact, unfortunates, keeping your own lifestyle.
Why should you be a third rate version of two people who don't even like their lives?
"It's now or never, Kash. What should we do?"
"We'll cut him off by Zen Square. You make a left by Kyo Street, I'll go up St. Anthony Avenue. If Jynx tries fighting, he would be boxed in, by us and the Static Police."
"Good choice...but if Jynx succeeds in outgunning and outpowering us all?"
"......" Kash looks down, not knowing how to answer. His sister, Mir, and he were self appointed crime fighters, protecting the mythical Turquoise City, one of such great grandeur, not even ten thousand words could describe it all.
Their target is one of their oldest rivals, Jynx, attempting to cause havoc by doing what he does best - cold-blooded murder.
Kash and Mir do this because they've always felt different, but in a good way. Their radical and unconventional parents had them both genetically mutated before they were born. Being cat freaks, they wanted cats as actual children, and succeeded, in a way. Kash and Mir both appeared to be, albeit, anthropomorphic felines, with fur and ears and tails, but still human.
Kash and Mir both did not vary too greatly in appearance from each other. If only you could understand how much that upsets them, you would know they just may be decaying on the inside.
They want to be recognized, but not as each other.
Kash and Mir both had long hair, or fur, whichever one you would rather call it. However, this thicker than normal hair covered their entire body.
Kash has a green short sleeve shirt, baggy blue jeans, and white shoes. nothing special. Mir has a blue blouse and brown skinny jeans with yellow ankle high shoes. Again, nothing special. Both's hair was middle back length and it spikes slightly up at the top of their heads. It is depressing. Had they not wanted to be superheroes, it would be bearable.
Because of their different appearance, both thought, at a young age, that they could grow up to be super heroes.
And in 2099, you could be anyone or anything you wish to be, as long as you look the part.
Their former official names lost to time, they are now known as Kash and Mir, both living in a relatively advanced yet dissonant flashpoint in human history. If it were not for a Cold War between the United States of Europe and the (neo) Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, centred around China and India, not forgetting how much people in the Middle East as well as people in South America hate each everyone else, we could have said the world is united. The only good coming out of it all is the rapid advancements in technology humanity has made in the past century.
Of course, you know humans. We find a stick, we beat ourselves with it. We make a sharper stick, we kill ourselves with it and make sure nothing else survives.
This chaotic world is in desperate need of heroes. Two entire generations of heroes had been wiped out sixty and twenty-five years ago. Kash and Mir want to start the first surviving generation's rise. Of course, if what Kash and Mir set down in their short time on Earth is an example, their calls shall always go unanswered; their cries unheard.
They dedicate their lives to fighting crime, feeling that it is the right thing to do, as well as waiting for a new hero revolution. Using conventional technology (such as calculator guns, temporary robotic enhancements, invisibility cloaks, and the sort), they have, over the past decade, become famous in their neighbourhood, and simply known in their city.
Kash and Mir, often noted as KashMir or KM, have fought many people throughout these many years. Many times, though, not bearing any successful results. Extreme late twenty-first Century technology aside, they have no super powers. They are just as vulnerable, just as weak- just as human- as anyone else.
And that's a trait that has ticked them off for years.
Just like today, they do stop their enemies, occasionally, but it is their imperfect record that keeps them from being world renowned.
Their parents AWOL for several years, whither in Europe, they've been able to take care of themselves just fine, albeit leading an exciting yet boring childhood and adolescence. They are OK, but they would rather be more than what they are.
They are OK with being typical, but every day they just cannot stop wondering what ... what the other side is like. They know there has to be a level of existence somewhere closer to the other side, and they will do anything to get there. But in order to break on through, they must endure
And I'm here today to say Welcome to KashMir.
