You don't know what the situation is.
You never even tried to understand.
You waded in with good intentions
and knocked the whole thing out of hand.

You didn't get the whole picture.
You didn't bother to look around.
You just jumped to the wrong conclusions
on the tail of a red herring you found.

And now you're trying to wear me down,
trying to make me break a trust.
I know it'll drive a wedge between us
but keep a confidence I must.

I wish you'd believe the things I say
and not press me for more.
To break the confidence of a friend
goes against all I stand for.

So punish me for helping friends,
for listening when they cry;
but please, at least take a look around.
Open up your eyes.
