I was having a bad day. It was raining heavily and I was very annoyed. I could have been swimming with my sister and getting tanned all day, but instead it had decided to pour and now I was sitting in my car, waiting for the red light to change.

I usually love rain, but I was already in a bad mood when I woke up this morning and it didn't help to find out my plans were ruined because of some freak storm nobody predicted. I just wanted to get home and relax. But it was just my luck to catch all the red lights.

I was idling alone at one particular red light when another car pulled up next to me. I didn't bother pay attention to it, too busy dreaming about falling asleep in my wonderful, comfortable bed. It was pretty hard for me to ignore the obnoxiously loud music coming from the open windows, though. The light turned green and I jammed down on the accelerator, only to just barely catch the next red light, with that stupid car pulling right back up next to me.

Frustrated about everything that had been going on that day, I rolled down my window, stuck my head out into the cold rain, and screamed, "Turn that stupid music off!" I have no idea what I was thinking. I mean, they could have been gang bangers for all I knew. I couldn't see their faces.

Before I could stick my head back into my car, however, I heard my name being called.

"Ellie?"

I looked through the window, into the passenger seat of the car next to me and was surprised to see...my boyfriend.

"Danny? What are you doing?"

The music was turned down and I could barely see the outline of the driver, but I knew who it was.

"Is Nyx with you?" I asked.

Danny looked at his best friend, who happened to be a girl, and then stuck his head out into the rain. "Yeah. Why are you out here so late, Ellie?"

I looked around. There were no other cars around and the light was still red.

"I'm driving home," I said. "What are you doing, here, with Nyx?" Danny and Nyx both knew I didn't like her. She was an ok person, but if he decided he loved her more than me, well, I had no chance. I've read all those stories where the girlfriend gets dumped for the best friend.

Danny sighed. "Ellie, you gotta trust me, Nyx is just my best friend. I'm dating you, not her. God, talk about incest."

I looked down. "Sorry, it's just...today's been a bad day."

He opened his mouth, but Nyx revved her engine. "Light's green," she called.

"I'll call you," Danny told me.

"Kay," I sighed. "I guess I'll talk to you tomorrow, or today actually, since it's—"

Nyx revved her engine again. Danny's head disappeared for a second and I heard him say, "Hold your horses, I'm talking to my girlfriend."

I smiled a little at that and was about to stick my head back in and drive away when Danny stuck his head back out of the window. "Wait, Ellie."

I looked back at him. I was hoping he would just say goodbye already so we could go and I could get my dripping head out of the rain when he grabbed me and kissed me. It was way awkward, both of us hanging out of our car windows in the freezing cold rain, but I loved it. I hung a little more out of my window to get at a better angle and to get a little more comfortable.

Danny pulled away. "I'll call you in twenty minutes and I want to hear about your day." He kissed me again and when we finally stopped, I had a huge grin on my face.

Nyx groaned from inside the car. "The light's red again!"

Danny grinned back at me. "Great, more time to make out."

It's been a while since I've posted something and since Kennedy has taken a very long vacation, I decided to post this. I wrote this a long time ago for a prompt and decided that I didn't like it enough to post it. But what the hey, I might as well have somebody read it.
