Naïveté's Lack of Innocence
I sat around thinking about my past
The mothers, the beatings, how long will it last?
We try to teach others rules written in sand
"Don't trust the neighbors" and "Friends won't understand"
The sheriff has a secret double life as a thief
The therapist couldn't even give his own son relief
The people don't notice because they've been jaded
It's not gonna disappear if we just play dead
Corruption beats strong at the heart of the city
It rapes and it batters and kills without pity
All that it cares for is fortune and fame
So it tramples the helpless without any shame
The signs were all there, information was free
So why was it so damn hard for them to see?
They could have known better but chose ignorance
It just proves naïveté's lack of innocence
