You're Not Here

Blue sky to forever,

The green grass blows in the wind, dancing

It would be much better a sight with you, with me,

If you hadn't met me, I'd be fine on my own, baby,

I never felt so lonely, then you came along,

So now what should I do, I'm strung out, addicted to you,

My body it aches, now that you're gone,

My supply fell through,

You gladly gave me everything you had and more,

You craved my happiness,

When you make me feel joy it makes you smile,

But now I feel your stress,

Love was never meant to be such a crazy affair, no

And who has time for tears,

Never thought I'd sit around and cry for your love,

'till now.

Heather stared at the window as she sat quietly in her bed. Rain continued to pound outside. The gray sky cast the perfect atmosphere for the dull and gloomy day. What a perfect day. Especially since she just moved to this new neighborhood after her dad's funeral.

Thanks, God.

"Heather?" Someone touched her shoulder, she looked up. It was her mom.

"Hmm?" she muffled, never tearing her eyes away from the window.

"You ok?" her mother asked gently.

The girl nodded. Her mother kissed her forehead "I'm just gonna check on Jeff ok?"

Heather didn't respond, she stared at the ground.

"Hey," the older woman lifted Heather's chin, "I love you, got that kiddo? Jeff loves you too. I promise you, baby, everything's gonna be alright."

Her mom patted her head then left. Alright? Yeah, right.

Heather leaned her head at the dull wall. She refused to look at the picture she had set at her desk. Her mom could never replace her dad. Not even her mom's new husband could replace her dad. She highly doubted anyone would.

She sighed deeply, closing her eyes; Trying to rid herself of her dad's memories wasn't really working. No doubt she loved her mom. But her mom was just so far away from her emotionally since the divorce that she barely knew her anymore.

"Daddy." Heather muttered pathetically as a tear shed, unwelcome emotions were beginning to escape. She needed someone right now. Her rock was gone. She was floating in a sea of emotions that were threatening to drown her in their depths. No. No. Just stop thinking about it. Dad wouldn't like seeing me like this.

He's in a better place. It was the line her mom and other relatives were always feeding her. Better place? What 6 feet under the ground?

She never thought she'd regret every time she chose to be with her friends than with him. She never thought that her dad was actually hiding the fact that he was dying just to ease her from more hurt after her mom divorced him. He always knew she never fully recovered from that blow. Always. She didn't even have to tell him.

She would have been better off knowing his days were numbered than knowing it when it was just too late. Her father was gone. A dreadful lesson life taught her:

Time is merciless... It listens to no plea.

That was just it. Her father was dead. What more could she do but move on.

Heather sighed, trying to soothe the tangled web of emotions deep in her mind. She stood up; Walked over to her study desk and searched for a blank sheet of paper. Finding one, took her pencil from her pocket sat down and began to draw.

...

She smiled as she put the last perfect stroke on her drawing. It looks just like him, she thought. grinning in satisfaction. Daddy. I love you. I guess that's all I can ever say. I'm sorry for everything I did to hurt your feelings. Goodbye.

Several days later

"Heather?" Someone knocked on the door.

"It's open." Heather replied, she was sitting on the desk, doing her homework.

"Hi, kiddo." Jeff smiled warily.

"What is it?" She asked never taking her eyes away from the notebook.

"Umm, listen, we never seem to talk... I guess it's because of the whole death thing---"

"So?" Heather cut him off; Guess? was the guy an idiot? Of course it was because of that and a whole lot of other things. She just hated him.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to say it that way...." Jeff scratched his blond head.

Heather continued to write. Even though now her head was filled with anger at the man she was forced to call "Dad".

"Listen, tomorrow's Saturday right? So how 'bout we go hang out a little. You know... try to get to know each other a bit?"

Oh great.

"Heather, I'm doing my best."

"Really, Jeffrey if you're only doing this so that my mom can quit bugging you to make friends with me then I'll just say that we go along great."

Jeff was stunned.

Did she go a little too far?

"Gee, I'm sorry if that's what you think I am Heather. No. Your mom didn't force me to go here and be friends with you. No. Sorry Heather. I'm not the kind of person who does that. I'm doing my best here. It's not that I'm trying to replace your dad or anything.... Oh forget it..."

Last thing Heather heard was a slam on the door.

"Great. I'm the one who looked like a complete ass, thanks." Heather muttered feeling guilty.

Instead of completing the assignment like she would have done she found herself in front of her mom's bedroom. She knocked slightly. Unsure of what she was going to say.

A slow creak.

"Honey?" her mom had changed to her pajamas, holding a towel as she was drying off her hair.

"Is Jeff inside?" the girl asked quietly. Feeling a little ashamed.

"Didn't he come to your room? He said he wanted to talk to you."

She turned red a little. Great. Now I really feel like an ass.

"Yeah... I think I'll just sleep now." she turned to leave.

"Wait." Her mother touched her shoulder.

"Hmm?"

"I forgot to give you something." her mother went to the bed and began to fish for something under it. "Ahh, Here it is." Her mom's hand emerged and held a small crimson box, "I always wanted to give you this."

"What?" Heather came closer, her mom instructed her to sit beside her.

"This." She opened the box, inside was a small necklace with a locket.

"Your father gave it to me a month after you were born" Her mom seemed lost in memories.

Heather looked at it. There was something embedded in the locket, she looked closer and a wave of emotion spread over her.

"To Claudia

L. Harry"

"It looks beautiful on you." her mom began as she placed the necklace on Heather. Heather could sense her mom's own tears.

"There, see?" Heather's mom forced a smile.

"Mom..." She choked a sob.

"I loved him Heather. A lot. I really did. It was just.... It wasn't meant to be."

Heather opened the locket, inside was a picture of her and her mom. She was just a little baby, her mom looked tired but quietly happy.

Everything changes. People just had to deal with it. She had to deal with it...

Then an idea popped in my head... then another... and another... plus I watched a YouTube video about Silent Hill entitled Noisy Hill... haha! LMAO...
