I was there the day my mother had her last child
That was the day I was born.
I was there the day the sun shone on the mountains
And their icy tips gleamed above the clouds.

Staring out at the sea of shining cars through the airport window
I remember my first thought.

And I just couldn't stay awake.

And we watched them all.

And I knew this wasn't going to be good.

We went to her house and played on the trampoline all day
Even though it was winter.
I was there the day I made my second friend
It was Halloween, and she was a lion
I wanted to be the grim reaper, but I was a cat instead.

Her name was Marie. She didn't like my mother either.

And I was launched into obsession.

And we lost ourselves in the amazing adventures of Inuyasha
Even if just for a little while.

And I had no idea what that was.

It sent a surge through me
Once I learned how to play, I felt truly powerful.
I was there I don't remember when
My sister's other friend became my friend too.

And I didn't show it, but my heart was broken.

And found some differences
And I was scared to death
But I didn't show that either.
I was there the day I read Loveless
And it completely blew my mind.
I was there when I saw Star Wars the first time
And I cried when Qui Gon Jinn died.
He was my favorite character.
I was there the last time my great-grandmother went outside
I just didn't know it when I walked alongside her wheelchair that time.
I was there when my teacher took my book away
because it was called "Middlesex".
I was there the summer my parents freed me from this school
And that fall I went to a new one.
I was there when I got an A+++ on a poem I wrote
It was called "The Trial of the Moth".
The day I brought it home, I finished reading Watchmen.

And met Tarzan and Freckles
I renamed Tarzan "Rorschach".

And made new ones.

And we played and traded until everyone went home.
I was there the time I went to see the Watchmen movie
I smuggled a donut in in my hat.
I was there when I moved up a level in taiko
And I knew I would miss Jen-sensei.
I was there when Michael Jackson died
And the whole world watched his funeral on TV
Because he was so famous, they couldn't really be there.
(Kenny Ortega probably would have sold tickets to it if he could have.)
I was there when I got my Last Alliance CD
It was "Me and Your Borderline".
I sat there with my head in the clouds, the music coursing through my veins
And I hung on every single word.
This is an autobiographical poem, of sorts. As with most poems I write, I have no idea where this comes from. Apollo must like me.
