Chapter 1 - The List

I left my seat from the couch to visit my freezer. I grabbed the pint of rocky road ice cream, a spoon and went back to my room. I gave Courtney the ice cream and a spoon to eat it with.

"Thanks," she sniffed taking the ice cream from my hand "I should've listened to you."

"I'm not going to say I told you so. Even though I want to." I smirked.

She laughed and she swallowed the ice cream. She turned her body towards me and I wiped the tears from her face.

"It's going to be just fine."

"You're not going to hurt him Lexie." She said very sternly.

"Why not?" I snapped "I have the right to break every bone in his body."

"Lexie I know you do but that doesn't mean you have to. I understand that he hurt me and you're upset but I don't want you to hurt him."

"So you're just going to let him get away with it?"

"Every other girl does." She shrugged taking another spoonful of ice cream.

"Court you're not every other girl. Every other girl has slept with him or wanted to and you didn't resist the Matthew charm. That means a lot because that shows that you're not vulnerable. You're an amazing girl and he doesn't deserve you. A girl like you should get back at him for breaking your heart." I encouraged her. Well I tried to.

"Lexie thanks. It means a lot to me, really. But I don't want to hurt Matthew."

I groaned "Do you know how badly I can hurt that guy?"

"Yes I do and that's why I don't want you to even talk to him."

I stared at her and then nodded. She tried to smile a little but her attempted smile turned into a frown. The waterworks started again and I wrapped my arms around her and rubbed her back. She sobbed in my shoulder leaving a wet spot. I didn't really mind. Well I did but since she's my best friend she's an exception.

After Courtney left I sat in my room thinking about Matthew. Maybe over the night she will reconsider me hurting Matthew for her. Everyone knows that if you fuck with a good friend of mine then you're in big trouble.

The next morning I dressed my little Lacey and walked downstairs and stood in front of my apartment building. I dropped my Lacey off at school. I went back to my apartment and waited for Courtney. Two minutes later she was walking down the street. I met her halfway and we started walking down the block.

"Morning Court." I smiled at her.

"What happened?" She asked curiously.

"Nothing," I shook my head "Why'd you ask?"

"Cause you're not being a bitch to me and you said morning... with a smile."

"What I can't be happy?"

She looked at me suspiciously "What's up Lexie?"

"Nothing." I shook my head.

"You might as well get it over with now." She shrugged as we walked down the block towards school.

"So I was up last night thinking."

"About?"

"Since you don't want to get Matthew back then maybe I could do it for you."

"And how would you do that Lexie?"

"I would take him on a fake date," I started and she already starting shaking her head disapprovingly "Then once he takes me home I'll kick his ass."

"That reminds me of that movie."

"What movie?"

"Um, John Tucker Must Die."

I laughed "It's different though. It's completely different because I just want to kick his ass not date him. And I'm way hotter than that little blonde girl that plays the main girl. I mean come on at least I know how to kiss."

"Okay okay." She said.

"I'm just saying."

"You beating Matthew up is just as wrong as what John was doing."

"Oh come on it'll be so much fun."

"I'll think about it Lexie."

"I promise you that once you see his face when I'm finished you'll be so happy."

She looked thoughtfully as we turned the corner of my block and a smirk played on her lips.

"What?" I asked.

"Oh nothing I was just thinking."

"About what?"

"Well I was just thinking if I do approve of this and you two start dating..."

"Why the hell would we start dating?" I asked.

"Well you might actually start to like him during the date."

I laughed with no humor "Yeah right. I would never fall for my best friend's ex. It's against the girl code."

"You know I don't care about that girl code shit. I mean if you did fall for him I wouldn't be mad or anything. I'm totally over him now."

I looked at her to see if she was serious. She was very serious because the smirk that was there is gone.

"Don't bet on it." I said.

"I'm just saying. It could happen." She shrugged.

"Not even."

"Whatever Lexie."

"Anyways," I said trying to change the subject "You were like a water hose last night. How'd you get over him over night?"

"Well you see it's quite simple," she smirked and so did I "I listened to the wise words of my best friend and ate two more pints of rocky road. I didn't really think about it but he is with a different girl every month. I guess I was just overwhelmed that he actually wanted to date me."

"I would have been shocked but not stupid. I mean come on if you pay attention to a few of our friends then you would know that they have dated Matthew Collins and have had their hearts broken by him."

"I guess I never really paid attention." She shrugged.

"Apparently you didn't."

She didn't say anything we continued to walk to school in silence.

We're both senior at Eastwood High School. A high school on the eastside of Chicago. I guess it's an okay school but I think it could be more drama free. It's the beginning of the year sort of. It's only the beginning of October.

I talk to about every student at school. I'm that one girl that every one likes because I'm so cool. Well that's how Courtney puts it. I think it's because I keep my mouth shut and I listen. I'm very trustworthy and you don't have to tell me not to tell anyone. If you're my friend and you're telling me something important I automatically know not to tell anyone. I have a really close friend but I would say she's more like a sister. I consider her a sister, as well as Courtney. Her name is Gabriella. The only thing different from her and Courtney and I is that she's black and we're white. Gabriella isn't ghetto but at times she can be.

It's not like I have anything against blacks because I mean a quarter of the kids at school are black and they're my friends too. Anyways off the whole black thing. She's my sister from another mother and I love her to death.

The two of them are always over my apartment and we just hang out like we always do. You may notice that I keep referring to the apartment as my apartment. That's only because it is my apartment. I pay rent, buy groceries, and pay the bills. My mom left me here about three years ago. She was addicted to drugs and she never really cared or loved me. She only cared about the guy who beats her. She calls him her fiancé. They've been engaged for about four years and they've been off and on the whole time because the guy beats her. I don't respect my mother and I don't think I ever will. Not after what she did to me.

I was just going into my freshmen year when she decided to leave. I knew it was going to happen sooner or later so that's why I had gotten a job over the summer working at Aéropostale. I've been working there ever since and I make enough to pay for rent, food, bills and everything else that needs to be bought. The landlord said that he understood my situation and I could stay as long as I pay the rent and bills. Courtney helps me when I need help and so does Gabriella. They've been my support to keep working and stay in school. If it weren't for them I would've given Lacey up and then jumped off a bridge. I did consider it when my mom left but they were here to help me.

I think I've been doing good to only be seventeen years old. My birthday is later this month on the twenty sixth. I don't know what I want to do but I'm sure my sisters have something planned out for me.

We went to our lockers and I threw my things in grabbing my book for my first period class. I pulled my hood over my head and walked down the hall to find Gabriella. I found her playing with a guy named Yazen. He's Arabic and he's really cute. I think they like each other but Gabriella hasn't mentioned anything about him.

"Hey Gabby, Yazen."

"Hey Lexie." They both smiled.

"Have you heard?" She asked me.

"Yeah and she ate a whole pint of my rocky road."

Yazen laughed and Gabby smiled.

"I heard something about you Lexie." He smirked.

"What?" I asked not really caring.

"Well you know Collins and I are pretty good friends," he started and I nodded "I'm glad to say that you're next on his list."

"Is he trying to sleep with every girl in senior class or something?" Gabby asked.

"Sort it's a joke between the jocks. Every month the jocks pick a girl and Matthew or someone else has to try to get into her pants within that month. Depending on the girl he has is how they bet if he can bang her or not. It also depends on the girl for how much money they bet each time."

"Well why aren't you participating in the bet? You're a jock." I asked.

"Yeah well I'm not a jerk that likes to get some and then break the girls' heart." He said.

Gabby smiled "That's the type of guy I want."

"So I'm who he wants now?" I asked him.

"Yeah but he knows it's going to be a challenge because he just broke up with your best friend. Also because he's a little terrified if you."

I laughed "Yazen you're not terrified of me?"

"When I first met you I was but then I got to know you." He flashed me a smile.

"I'll see you guys in lunch. I'm going to be late for Biology."

"Bye Lexie." They both waved.

I walked to class and waved at everyone who acknowledged me. In school I do have my favorites that I prefer to talk to. Some are really quiet and I have to make them talk. Those are usually the freshmen. I went to my usual seat and smiled over at my Steve. He was known as the popular senior that everyone liked. A real party boy that's fun to hang with.

"Hey Steve."

"Hey pretty. How are you this morning?"

"I'm good."

"So am I."

"Hey I know you're good friends with Collins. So am I really next on the list?"

He hesitated and then he said "Yeah."

"You know a lot of you senior guys disgust me. That's why a lot of you can't get girlfriends."

"A lot of the males in the senior class have girlfriends."

"The ones who aren't jerks."

"I'm not a jerk."

"Well you still make bets." I said accusingly.

"Aww come on Lex it's not even that bad. It's not like it's me breaking the girl's heart. It's Matthew Collins or some other guy."

I looked at him and then asked "Have you made your bet yet?"

"I'm betting one fifty that he doesn't bang you." He smirked.

"That's my boy." I smirked punching his arm playfully "So I'm the girl for October?"

"Yeah, it doesn't officially start until you two are dating."

I laughed with no humor "Might as well call the bet off now."

A/N: I typed this chapter on my iPod then sent it to my email to fix it on Microsoft Word. At first it was originally five pages but when I fix everything it's a bit longer. I think I might just continue to write on the computer to know exactly if it's long enough. I don't like to leave you guys with short chapters. I have nine chapter typed up that need editing badly because writing on my iPod isn't really that great. Anyways I hope you guys liked the beginning. Review if you please. Pictures for characters on my profile. Check them out.
