The Devil of the Red Planet

I have longed in the sky

eternal, and the ancients

sang trembling songs to my glory

and my human-skin tunic.

I was a God.

My name has slain courage,

and now belongs to dusty texts.

I am forsaken among these red minerals.

Your strange sciences have desiccated me

and reverberated my name into emptiness.

Your mind has robbed me of my kingdom

until nothing is left but ... but a

brick red planet, and an angry pink sky.

I hurdle through space orbit, spiritless

And do naught but hungrily stare at Venus

As she revolves silently

with me.
