Chapter Thirty: Morning Bail:
By morning, the guard came by Pandora's cell. She looked up when she heard the door open. The kitty smirked at the pigs.
"Oh," she said. "And to what do I own this pleasure of a little visit? An interrogation? Are you going to beat the truth out of me? Drug me up? Starve me? Go ahead! Take your best shot! I won't budge!"
"Get out," the guard said. "You're bail's been paid." Pandora frowned at him.
"By who?" she asked.
"Your owner," he said. Pandora froze with big eyes.
"My..." she began to say. "Naoko?"
"Yes!" the guard hissed. "Now get out of here! I'm tired of seeing your face." The kitty girl rose to her feet, stunned. He came all this way, for me?, she thought. But how? And why? Dumbfounded, the cat rose to her feet and walked out of the cell. But then, she paused.
Why is he doing this?, she thought. Is it to gain my favor in this fight? If so, I should not trust him and stay here. But... he seems sincere about it. Pandora bit on her thumb. Damn it!, she thought. What should I do? Why is he doing this to me now? Darn it!
"Come on!" the guard yelled. "Get going!" The cat snorted to herself.
"Yeah, yeah!" she barked. She walked down the hall past her fellow dolls. Don't worry girls, she thought. I will support you from the outside. I promise! Then, Pandora walked out of the jail to her freedom again.
Naoko sat in the lobby, waiting. He looked up when he heard footsteps. Pandora stood in the hallway, staring at him with distrust. The mouse rose to his feet before her.
"Pandora!" he gasped. He rushed over to hug her. She held out her hands to block him. The mouse blinked at her.
"Pandora?" he asked.
"Don't touch me," she said. Then, the kitty walked past him. The mouse looked just as confused.
"Pandora?" he asked as he followed behind. "Pandora!" They didn't speak until they got outside. The kitty suddenly stopped. Naoko paused with a lost look on his face.
"Pandora?" he asked. The kitty clenched her fists.
"Why did you bail me out?" she asked in a low voice. The mouse raised an eyebrow at her.
"Sorry?" he asked.
"How did you even know that I was in jail?" she asked.
"The news. I saw it on the news after I bought you a present."
Pandora's face changed to a confused one. "What? But why?"
"Same reason I bailed you out of jail."
Pandora put her hands on her hips. "And why is that?"
Naoko's cheeks turned red as he spoke and looked away. The cat raised an eyebrow at him.
"What did you say?" she asked. He turned his attention back to her.
"I LIKE YOU, OKAY?" Naoko shouted. "I REALLY, REALLY LIKE YOU!" Pandora sneered to herself at the remark.
"Liar," she muttered.
"Believe what you want," he said. "But, that's the true that I know." The mouse began his walk for home again. He glanced over his shoulder at her.
"Are you going to come home with me or not?" Naoko asked. He didn't stick around for an answer this time. Pandora tilted her head sideways as she watched his back shrink as the distance grew between them.
What's with this guy?, she thought as her feet gave way to following behind.
