Walking side by side with Alex felt like a dream, a dream where I was standing on a cloud and he was holding my hand. And then we jumped off the cloud into pure happiness.
But then that stupid evil gummy bear came and chopped his hair off -long story about the gummy bear.
Alex had been my partner for a week and already we were close. He rang me up every night, to discuss the case of course, but his voice made me feel like he felt the same way I felt about him.
Anyway, we only had one lead on the case so far and we didn't have a whole lot of evidence.
The lead was a boy named Gregory. He was in Mrs Harrison's Science class and he wasn't very smart. He was always getting bad grades and always blaming it on his teachers. So we decided to have a little chat to him to figure out whether or not he was the one that broke Mrs Harrison's glass award.
Alex and I had just brought him to Head Quarters, and was about to interrogate him, when my phone rang.
"Can you begin without me?" I asked Alex. He nodded, so I walked out of the interrogation room and to my desk. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and answered it.
"Hello." I said.
"Is this Macy Baker?" said an unusual low voice.
"Yes. This is she."
"Hello Miss Baker. Do not ask for my name for I will not tell you. And to hide my real voice, I have disguised it with a special voice changing mechanism."
"Ok. What do you want then?"
"I have some interesting news you might find useful to your investigation."
"Ok."
"Listen to me very carefully. I am the person you are looking for. I broke Mrs Harrison's glass trophy."
"What? Who are you?"
"Silly girl. I told you I will not tell you who I am. There is something else you should know as well." A faint quack was heard. "Shut up Boris."
"What was that?"
"Nothing. There is something else I have to tell you. Come to the Science Fair. Now."
And then the person hung up, leaving me shocked. I checked the caller id but there was no number.
I quickly put the phone back in my pocket and went to rejoin my partner in the interrogation room.
As I entered, I saw Alex sitting calmly in his seat with Gregory opposite him.
"Alex can I talk to you." I pulled Alex out of the room and told him about the call and I also mentioned that we should let Gregory go.
"Let him go? How do we know he wasn't a partner in crime with the weird voice guy?"
"Because, as everyone but you would know, Gregory doesn't have any friends."
"But creepy voice guy could've threatened or offered him something." Alex argued.
"Trust me on this." Alex eventually agreed to let Gregory go, and we began walking to the Science Fair.
"I hate Science Fairs. Too many nerds."
"Oh nice, Alex. That used to be me."
"What? Really?"
"Yeah, I used to enter the Science Fair all the time. But then I got offered a position on the Crime Squad and, well, how could I turn that down?"
"Wow. There's a lot more to you than I thought." I flashed a smile at Alex when he said that. Oh boy did I have a crush.
When we arrived at the Science Fair, we saw Mrs Harrison by a students display. We began to walk towards her, when all the lights went out and there was suddenly complete darkness in the Gymnasium.
After 5 seconds, a single light appeared on the stage. Alex and I held hands as we made our way through the crowd and as close to the stage as we could. I could feel his hotness even in the darkness. We both had a gut feeling that something bad was about to go down.
A figure in a black outfit arrived on the stage, in the middle of the spot light.
Alex and I kept bumping into people, and it took us ages to get halfway to the stage.
"Welcome, my friends! I'm so sorry, but this Science Fair must end now. For me, it has been a very bright day. And I suppose it has been for most of you guys, as well, until now. You have ten seconds to figure out my riddle." The figure left the stage.
It was a terrible riddle, but both Alex and I were extremely worried. Bright? He said that strangely. Hmmm... bright. What could that mean. And then it struck me.
"The lights! Get everyone out NOW!" Alex and I looked up before running around in the dark shouting for everyone to get out of the Gym. People were scared and followed our orders. We managed to have everyone out in about eight seconds. As Alex and I stared back into the dark and empty Gym, the lights suddenly flickered back on and all the lights that were hung from the ceiling fell to the floor. Glass shattered everywhere.
"I hope I don't have to clean that up." I said to Alex, with a small smirk on my face.
