Chapter Four

For once, in my whole entire life, I woke up before Gus in the morning. It was nine-thirty a.m., he should be up in a half an hour.

I climbed off the couch-Gus got to sleep on the bed this time-and crept into the hall over to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and then hopped in the shower.

***

I woke up when I heard the shower going. I looked over to the couch and Andee wasn't on it.

Since when does Andee wake up before me? I looked up at the clock; it read nine forty-five. Wow, Andee hardly even wakes up before ten. Weird.

I walked over to the dresser, that holds mine and Andee's clothes, and pulled out my favorite pair of swim bottom-and also Andee's favorite- then walked to my side of the closet to get a shirt that would match the red, blue and white trunks. I went with a plain white tank top with thick straps.

The shower shut off.

I heard Andee's quiet footsteps walking down the hall and stop when she got in front of the door. She opened the door and paused for a second.

"Morning." She said nonchalantly. She had a towel wrapped around her glistening wet body.

I smiled widely, very good morning. "Good morning." I said calmly.

"I know, I was surprised when I woke up too." She referred.

"I thought you were abducted." I joked.

"Shut up." She smiled and walked to the dresser.

"I'll let you have some privacy." I said quietly as I walked toward the door.

I shut the door and walked to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and then combed through my hair. I splash water in my hair and shook my head, that's how I do my hair. When I was done, I walked back to Andee's door, sat next to it, and waited.

Andee only takes a couple of minutes to get ready, which I love. I thought it was ridiculous that Christina had to go home two hours early so she could get ready. I'm not quite sure what I really saw in Christina before. Now all I see is… My phone started ringing, my hand fell on my pocket. It wasn't there, I left in Andee's room.

I heard Andee's voice next.

"Hey Jakey." She said sweetly. "Yeah, Gus and I are going to go to the mall soon do you want to us to pick you up after we're done?" She paused and then laughed. "Sick of Paul?" Another pause, "Ok, we'll pick you up on our way." and another, "Yup. See ya soon, Bud."

Now all I can see is Andee. (A/N: I'm so mean, I'm going to end his p.o.v. right there. :])

***

I shut Gus's phone, took one more look at my outfit,-I was wearing lime green shorts and a striped lime green and white shirt with my favorite lime green high tops, and of course a lime green swimsuit under it.-and opened the door. Gus was sitting on the floor next to it, but he didn't look up, I don't think he even heard it open. This is when I wish I could read his mind. He seemed so thoughtful.

I dropped down next to him and he still didn't notice, I put his phone in his lap, that's when he finally looked up.

He looked at my outfit and then shielded his eyes. "Bright enough color?" He laughed. "Kidding, you look great."

"Thanks, you too." I could tell he was still thinking about what he was thinking about a second ago. "Uh, Jake wants us to pick him up and take him with us when we go to get my swimsuit."

"Okay," He was distant.

I couldn't stand it anymore. "What are you thinking about?" I whispered, even though I wanted to shout at him to get him to come back down to earth.

He finally snapped out of it. "Nothing." He shook his head, jumped up off the ground, and held out his hand. I grabbed it and he pulled me up. "When do you want to leave?"

I narrowed my eyes at him. He was thinking about something, and he didn't want to talk about it because he changed the subject-without saying subject change. "I don't care."

"After we eat?" He suggested.

"How about we swim, eat, and then go?" I felt like swimming in his pool.

"But you just showered." He pointed out.

"I can shower again, its only ten Gus."

"Ok, where are we swimming?"

"Your pool." I said while I walked down the stairs. Gus followed shortly after I had already got to the bottom.

We walked across the street saying nothing. Gus pulled his shirt off and wait for me to get my shorts, shirts and shoes off.

When I got them all off, he grabbed my hand and pulled me to the farthest end of his yard. We kept our hands together and started running toward the pool, our hands dropped right before we jumped into the pool.

"Canon ball!" We screamed together.

SPLASH!

We entered the water. Gus landed almost right on top of me. He pulled me into him and then pulled me up to the surface. When we came up we were both laughing.

"We probably just woke all the neighbors." I giggled.

"Oh, well. They need to wake up anyway." He said into my ear. He was still holding me, he was facing my back. I turned around to face him, expecting him to back away a little but he didn't. We stared into each others eyes, I could see the flecks of gold in his green eyes.

"Andee," He whispered. He leaned closer, and so did I. I don't know why I didn't pull away, I almost wanted this to happen. I closed my eyes, right when he did.

"Hey kids!" A woman's voice called. Gus and I jumped back, startled. We looked up and saw Gus's mom, Cecile, closing the back door and calling over her shoulder to us.

I put some distance between us before she turned around.

"Hey Cecile." I called. "Welcome back!" She walked over to the pool.

"Thank you Andee. What are you two up to?" She eyed us suspiciously. I wonder how much she saw.

"Nothing. We were just going for a swim." I answered. I looked at Gus and he was watching the house, a strange expression on his face.

"Oh, ok. Is Jake still at Paul's?"

"Yeah, we were going to pick him up on the way to the mall." I answered once again.

"Oh you don't have to do that. I'll pick him up."

"We got it mom, we're going to be out anyway." Gus snapped.

"Gus." I warned him quietly, his mom didn't hear me.

"Gus I can do it." She said sweetly.

I spoke before Gus could. "That's ok Cecile. Jake wanted to go to the mall with us, anyway."

"Oh, ok." She looked down. "Well, I'm going to make breakfast. You guys hungry?"

"Yeah."

"Ok, I'll come and get you when its done."

"Thanks." She walked back to the sliding door and went inside.

I waited til the door was closed to speak.

"Gus. She's your mom. You could've at least been nice."

"I know. I'm sorry." He wouldn't look at me though.

"Apologize to her, not me."

He didn't answer, he dove underwater and started swimming.

My mind wandered back to when we were about to kiss. What was that about? There wasn't even a warning. Or maybe there was and I missed it.

I sighed and floated on my back.

I thought back to when we were eleven. It was summer and we were on the beach. My parents had both fallen asleep and we went for a night swim. In the water, we were talking about how Donny and Hannah were going steady( no clue how we got on that topic.) and that they had already kissed. We got back to the shore and it got all quiet. I looked over at Gus and he asked a simple question, 'Have you ever kissed anyone?' I reply with a quick 'no.' we talked about how we should kiss each other, just for practice. Then all of the of the sudden his lips were on mine and I kissed him back, he pulled back and smiled. I pulled his lips back to mine and we kissed some more. I don't exactly know how long we did this for but when were done our breathing was ragged and we were both smiling. After that, we ran and never talked about it again. The End.

I felt hands on my back and my eyes fluttered open- I hadn't even noticed I closed them.

Gus was pulling me around the pool while I floated.

"What were you thinking about?" He asked.

"Nothing."

"Yes you were, and you were smiling, so it was a good thought. Tell me, please?"

"Not unless you tell me what you were thinking about this morning."

He sighed, "I was thinking about you, and Christina and…"

"And…?"

"That's all."

"What about me and Christina?" I really hope he wasn't comparing us.

"Well I was thinking about what I really saw in Christina."

"And me?"

"I was thinking about how you took fifteen minutes to get ready and Christina took two hours."

I guess that's not really comparing. Wait, yes it is!

"You were comparing us." It wasn't really a question.

"No. Just that one thing." He paused. "That's all I was thinking about. Your turn."

I hesitated, we've never brought this up before til now, and I didn't know how he felt about that night. "I was just thinking about when we were eleven."

He smiled. "That night we kissed?"

I just nodded.

"I was too."

"Really?"

"Yeah," He nodded "Andee, I-"

"Breakfast is done!" Cecile called from the sliding door.

"What were you saying?" I asked. Gus was staring into the water, I thought I saw a flash of anger on his face.

He looked up from the water and his face was a perfect mask. "I forgot. Lets go eat so we can get you your swimming suit." he grabbed my waist and hoisted me out of the pool, and then pulled himself out.

We walked into the kitchen and the smell of cinnamon flooded our noses.

"I made cinnamon pancakes." We sat down at the table while Cecile got our plates ready.

"It smells good." I complimented.

"Yeah." Gus agreed.

"Thanks guys."

"Where's dad?" Gus's curiosity got the best of him.

"He had a long week so he showered and then laid down."

He just nodded in reply. Cecile placed our food in front of us and then excused herself so she could shower.

We ate in silence, the only thing you could hear were our forks hitting the plates making a tink tink noise.

We finished and walked out to his garage.

Gus drives a 2010 Chevy Camaro. Its black with silver racing stripes off to the right. It's the sexiest car I've ever seen. I love it.

He's spoiled, his parents always buy him and Jake gifts when their gone for a while.

Me on the other hand, I'm still saving up for a car. Gus has been begging me to let him get me car for my seventeenth birthday, which is in August, but I always say no. I'll wait til I can buy my own. But for now, Gus is my taxi. Sometimes he lets me drive it, but not very often. I think I'm the only other person besides him to drive it. His car is his baby.

"We're going to have to take the Suburban." Gus pulled out the keys out to the Suburban and unlocked it.

I pouted. "Aw, maybe your mom should go get Jake instead?"

"No, we're getting him." He said sternly.

I dropped my pouty face. "God Gus, I was only kidding." I pulled open the passenger door and slammed it behind me. Normally Gus opens the car door for me, but I didn't want him to when he was being cranky.

"I'm sorry Andee." Gus said, as he started the vehicle and pulled out of the garage.

I wanted to ignore him. I wanted to be mad at him, but I couldn't, because I knew that Gus was hurt and he just wouldn't show it, and that this anger was covering the hurt. I took a deep breathe. "Gus, you cant let them get to you like this. I know your mad that they were a couple of days late, but-"

"I know Andee. Your right. I'm so sorry for snapping at you." I was going to tell him that he should apologize to his parents too, but he knows me so well, "I'll apologize to my mom and dad too."

I can never stay mad at Gus. I smiled a little smile. "Your forgiven."

We didn't talk until we got to Paul's house.

"Should I just honk?" Gus asked.

"No. I'll go get him." I hopped out of the car and walked quickly to the front door, and knocked.

Paul answered the door. "Oh, hey Andee. You here to get Jake already?"

I laughed. "Yes, he has been here for three days, you know?"

"Yeah… I guess." He ran up the stairs to get Jake and his mom came to the door.

"Thank you so much for watching Jake, Mrs. Kindle." I said sincerely.

"Oh, it was no problem at all. He is such a great kid." She looked out to the Suburban and saw Gus. "Are his parent's home?"

"Yeah. They got home this morning. They were exhausted from the flight, so Gus and I said we would pick Jake up." Just then, Jake came bounding down the stairs.

"Hey Andee!" he ran into my arms and gave me hug.

I hugged him back and then grabbed his hand. "Ready to go, bud?"

"Yup." He told Paul goodbye, I thanked Mrs. Kindle one more time, and then we walked hand in hand to the car.

Jake got in on Gus's side while I walked around and got in the passenger seat.

"Did you have fun Jake?" Gus asked.

"Yeah, up until today. Paul just gets on my nerves!"

Gus and I laughed in unison. "That's Paul for ya."

"I guess." He paused. "Is mom and dad really home? I heard Andee tell Paul's mom that they got home this morning." He sounded bored with the subject.

"Yes, they are. Do want to go home, instead of going to the mall with us?" Gus asked warily.

Jake shook his head. "No. I want to hang out with you and Andee."

"Alright."

Jake is the coolest ten year old I know. He's also one of the nicest. I've always considered him a little brother. He even tells his friends that I'm his older sister.

He looks the most like his parents. He as a pale complexion, chocolate brown eyes, and light brown hair that is about to the end of his forehead. Such a cute kid.

Gus on the other hand is an odd ball. He as a more creamy complexion, green eyes, and dark brown hair. Plus his hair is stick straight, while Jake and both his parents have a slight wave.

We pulled into the mall parking lot and parked the all hopped out and walked into the mall.

"So what are we getting?" Jake asked.

"I promised Andee I would get her a new swimsuit."

"Another one? Don't you have a brizillion of them already?" He turned and asked me.

"Yeah, but Gus promised." I told him, and then glanced over at Gus and smiled.

"Oh yeah. Gus never breaks his promises." He said with 'duh' in his tone.

"That's right." Gus said with a victorious smile.

We walked into Hollister and started looking at the walls of swimming suits they have. Most of my swimsuits are from Wal-Mart or something, but the ones Gus get me are name brands.

"Hey, Andee. I like this one." Jake walked over with a lime green bikini that had blue hearts and pink stars all over it.

"I love it!" He handed it to me and I looked it over again. "Gus, your little brother is a genius. I want this one."

Gus walked around the corner holding another swimsuit. This one was a black bikini with white and lime green stripes. I liked it too.

My face fell. "I like both of them. How am I supposed to pick one?"

"We'll just get you both!" Jake suggested.

"No, Gus said he'd get me one new one, not two."

"You can have both Andee." Gus grabbed the one Jake picked out of my hands and walked to the register. I followed after him.

"Gus, you said one." I whispered at him.

"No, I didn't say how many I would get you. You can go back there and pick five more if you want."

"No, I only wanted one."

"But you like both of these, so your getting both of them." he said in his, 'and that's final' tone.

"Fine." I said stubbornly, and then added more sweetly, "Thanks Gus."

"I owed you, remember?" He smiled.

I smiled back. "Yes, yes you did."

"Why did he owe you a swimsuit?" Jake asked confused.

"She let one of my friends wear one of her swimsuits." Gus answered. We walked out of Hollister and started toward the exit doors.

Jakes eyes widened. "Why was one of Gus's friends wearing a girl swimsuit?!"

I started laughing. In fact I couldn't stop.

Gus chuckled, "It was a girl, Jake."

"Oh…"

I finally stopped laughing. "You crack me up, kid."

Jake smiled up at me. "Are we going home?"

"Yes, why? Did you want to go somewhere else?" Gus asked. He was such a good brother. He picked that up from Kyle though. I love my older brother.

"Nope, just wondering."

We pulled out of the mall and headed back over to Gus's.

"Hey Jakey!" Cecile cried when Jake, Gus, and I walked through the door. Jake hates it when his mom calls him Jakey, but he doesn't tell his mom that. He doesn't mind when I do it though.

"Hi mom. I missed you!" He gave her a hug and then went to his room.

"So, what did you guys get? You weren't gone very long."

"Gus bought me a swimsuit."

"Two." He amended.

"Good heavens girl! Don't you have enough?" she joked.

"You can never have too many swimsuits." I laughed.

Gus and Cecile laughed along.

Gus sighed, "I missed you, mom. I'm sorry I was ornery this morning." He hugged her.

"It's ok, Gus. I understand." She whispered in his ear.

I smiled to myself.

Gus pulled away and walked back to my side. "We're going to hangout at Andee's house today, ok?" He told his mom and, in a way, me.

"We are?" I asked when Cecile said, "That's fine,"

Cecile walked off in to the kitchen and Gus said, "Yeah, you said your parents are offended that we don't spend much time there, so we're going to spend the day at your house." He smiled and headed toward the door, I followed.

He was in much better mood than this morning, I was thankful. I mean, I am going to be spending the day with him, and if he was going to be all angry then he wouldn't be any fun.

We ran across the street and into my house. My mom was in the front room reading.

"Did you guys already eat?" Was the first thing she said.

"Yeah." Me and Gus answered at the same time, then Gus continued with, "My parents got back this morning and made us breakfast."

"Oh, that's great! I'm going to have to go over today." Our parents are also best friends, go figure.

We nodded and then went up my room. Our mess from this morning was there so we made up the bed and put the blanket that I used in the closet. We normally do this before we leave the house but we forgot today.

When we were done, I sat on the bed and Gus sat next to me.

"So were just going to sit in my house all day?" I asked skeptical.

"No, we can go outside or to the beach."

"That's what I thought."

He smiled. "So what do you want to do first?"

"Beach."

His eyes lit up. "Wanna race?"

My mouth pulled up into a grin. "You bet."

We walked down the stairs, told my mom that we were going down to the beach, she told us to be careful, and then we were in the backyard.

"On your mark," I started.

"Get set." Gus said.

"GO!" We shouted at the same time, taking off towards the beach.

I was in front, my feet hit the sand and I started to slow, but I was still ahead. Once I got to the harder, wet sand I picked up speed again. Gus was just a few paces behind me. I kept running once my feet hit the water, then once it was deep enough I started swimming to the buoy.

Gus took the lead once he was in the water. My arms were just behind his legs.

Once we got to the buoy we turned and swam slowly back to the shore. The water was calm today, it was a nice day.

We didn't talk while we swam back.

A/N: Push the green button. You know you want to!! :D
