It was a dark windy night. I was back in Pennsylvania, back in the deep woods, back where I found the body sixteen years before.
I was walked into the small clearing with my friend Mindy, who was following close behind me. The moonlight shown the faint shadow of the old red car, sunk deep into the ground. I stared at the car for a moment but a flash of white caught my eye.
"Mindy, did you see that?" I whispered.
She didn't respond; she stood frozen in fear with her eyes glued to the car. I ignored her and looked towards the flash again. I could see the faint outline of a man. He had his back to me; he seemed to be hiding behind a large oak tree. Slowly I moved closer reaching out my hand.
"Who are you?" I breathed.
He began to turn towards me. I stopped waiting for him. I wanted to know who this man was.
He was facing me now, but I still couldn't see his face. His face was hidden in the dark shadows.
"Come here." I whispered, "Please."
He took a step towards me, a step into the light. Still his face remained hidden.
"Just a little more." I thought.
As if he could read my mind he lifted his other foot to take a step. His long black cloak swished in the breeze. He finally stepped into the light.
I could see him clearly now. He was tall at least six foot; he wore a long black cloak that went down to his ankles. He began to lift his head; I would finally see his face! I felt my pulse accelerate. I turned toward Mindy.
"Quick Mindy look!" I said excited.
But when I turned back the mysterious man was gone.
"No! Where are you?" I screamed.
I tore back into the woods after him. I felt my clothes ripping as they caught on the branches,
"Please!" I screamed as I fell to the ground.
I was sobbing, I'd lost him again.
Suddenly, I woke up, covered in sweat. I sat up adjusting my eyes to the darkness. Slowly I could see the television, my night stand, and my alarm clock, which began to play my favorite song. I breathed a sigh of relief; I was in my apartment in New York City. Everything was okay.
