There is a poison deadly
Mere name chills to the bone
It symptoms are the strangest
Of any ever known
The mind cannot think clearly
The brain all turns to mush
Their face attains a color
Akin to roses' blush
The voice begins to stammer
The heart begins to race
Knees once strong turn weakly
And cannot hold their place
The breath comes in bated gasps
And time begins to slow
Or so it seems to dewy eyes
Who see all life aglow
There is not hope for those struck
By such a horrid fate
No poultice ever has dulled
The anguish they await
So if you see me sprinting
I bid you too to start
For know that I am fleeing
From Cupid's poison dart
