I look ahead

And see so many doors

Barred from my reach

Each with a future

Longing for release

I walk through a

Garden

The roses are in bloom

Yet their scents I cannot smell

Guarded by a ragged old shrew

Windows of light;

They have thick drapes that cover

What lies on the other side

They will not budge

No matter how hard I might try

I swivel my gaze

Look all about

See these atrocities

And how I am without

I know I should not

Wonder, but oh

How would I be

If these evil were not so?
