In the Past

You may think

I live in the past;

You may think

I need to let go.

In the past

he said he loved me;

In the past

those were my thoughts, too.

In the past

he lied to me;

In the past,

he never cared.

In the past,

he shattered my glass heart;

In the past,

tears bled from my eyes.

And those past experiences

is what I have learned

all love to be –

hurt, lies, and rejection.

So please be patient

and be as kind as you are –

show me that

I am wrong.

I care for you so,

but I have been long scarred –

I am afraid to trust,

afraid love's sharp blade

will impale me again.
