Psychology

I am told that the mind controls the body.

Psychologists, biologists, neuroscientists
tell me my brain sends signals through nerves,

that my nerves control my…muscles.

Philosophers, thinkers, dreamers

tell me my mind controls my body,

that my brain is just a…pathway.

Athletes, workers, doers

tell me my thoughts are just the guidelines,

that my body can act…alone.

And they're right.

All of them.

Studies show,

Research indicates,

The brain just thinks;

The body vindicates.

I am told the body controls the mind.

Eyes, ears, nose

tell me of wondrous surroundings

that my mind should just…respond.

Hands, feet, spine

tell me of confusing sensations

that my thoughts cannot…believe.

They don't lie.

They cannot.

Input A to output B,

Push a bar to get some food.

Free will is not relevant;

No mind, no soul, no state of mood.

And then the mind tries to control itself.

But that's where the real Blue Screen of Life comes in, isn't it?

The puppetmaster can only pull so many strings before one breaks,

The rat can only push so many bars before one sticks.

Too much input makes system shock.

And that's where the real Blue Screen of Life comes in, isn't it?

Flex a muscle, it gets stronger.

Solve a problem, learn a fact.

But feel a feeling,

Feel it often,

Feel it strong,

Think (if such a thing exists) about it too long

Eat a pellet or two…

And you get stuck.

And that's where the real Blue Screen of Life comes in, isn't it?

Mind-body:

Nerves send one message

through a one-function brain

for a single-task body.

Truth, in

One constant thought, one eternal action.

Body-mind:

A one-track mind

Stuck on repeat.

Truth, in

One constant stimulus, one eternal response.

Is there any reason? Does there have to be?

But that's where the real Blue Screen of Life comes in, isn't it?
