The dentist looked down kindly at her little patient.

"Don't be afraid now," she smiled, "Everything is going to be just fine. I just need to take a quick peek at those big boy teeth and you can be on your way!"

The little boy sitting in the dental chair looked at the dentist with a hard stare and crossed his arms stubbornly. She realized the boy was not going to open his mouth without resistance.

The dentist put on a fake frown and pouted playfully. "You mean you aren't going to let me see your pretty white teeth?"

The little boy frowned at her, unmoved by her feeble attempts.

"Alright then," she said calmly, sitting down in her office chair, "I won't be able to give you a sticker after we're done."

The boys stare turned into a cold glare. Unnerved, the dentist tried again to lighten his spirits.

"I'll tell you what," she smiled leaning forward, "If you are a good boy and open wide, I'll give you a brand new toothbrush before you leave!"

The boy continued to glare at her with reproachful eyes.

The dentist became tired. "Look now," she pleaded, "It won't take me but just a few seconds. I'm only going to check for cavities. Now could you please open wide for me?" The boy completely ignored her and she began to become exasperated. "Look here," she said gesturing to the tools on her tray. The boy looked the other way. She spoke louder as she picked up her tiny mirror. "This is only a mirror! No drills, no scary or pointy objects, just a mirror!" The boy continued to ignore her. "Here, see for yourself," she said standing. But as she did the boy quickly turned his head and spit disrespectfully at the dentist.

She gasped as his saliva landed on her shirt. "Oh my word! Why would you do that?" The dentist quickly wiped the spit off of her shirt with a towel by the sink and turned to face the angry child. "Now see here," she said pointing at the boy with her mirror, "I have had the upmost patience with you but I most certainly will not tolerate being spit upon!"

The boy gave her an impish smirk.

The dentist began to feel her face heat. Out of all the years of being a dentist, she had never encountered such a rude and hateful patient, or child for that matter. "Stop it! Just open your mouth so you can leave and I will be out of your hair!" she said, realizing just how ridiculous she was sounding. As if SHE was the one causing trouble.

The boy stared at her again.

The dentist had had enough. She walked briskly over to the little boy, put her hand on his jaw and tried to force his mouth open. The boy let out an unnecessary blood curling scream.

"Stop it! Now hush! I'm trying to do my job!"

The boy began to kick and scream even louder.

"SHHH!" the dentist tried in vain attempt.

Just then, the little boy's mother came bursting into the room in fits of hysteria. "What are you doing to my son!?" she yelled.

The dentist regained composure and raised her hand. "Thank goodness you're here ma'am! Your son – "

"SHE CUT ME! SHE STABBED MY GUMS ON PURPOSE!" the boy lied pointing at the dentist.

The dentist's eyes almost popped as she stared in disbelief at the boy as he bit his lip hard purposefully drawing blood, unseen by his mother. The dentist looked helplessly at the mother. But the mothers face was twisted with anger.

"YOU WITCH!" she roared.

"No! I – You don't understand! The boy –"

The boy began crying very loudly. His mother rushed up and smacked the dentist hard across her cheek. The dentist gently touched her cheek, eyes wide with shock. The boy's mother grabbed up her child and gave the dentist a look that made hatred seem kind. The dentist just stood there as the mother stormed out of the room carrying her child in her arms, who flashed the dentist with a bloody grin before he was carried out of sight.
