My sophomore year in high school, from the POV of my inner critic. It's not much, but it's been two years since I wrote it and I still love it, so I figured I'd share it with strangers on the internet. Enjoy.

She's a fragile girl, she hates the world, got a smile made of wax
You threw her out into the street, there's no way you'll get her back
You start reading books, you pick up looks that have fallen to the ground
It's a shame, my dear, to see so clear the life that she has found

You know the cause, you count her flaws like monkeys on your back
Get over yourself, you stupid bitch
She's the best you ever had

I wonder why you're so critical
This petty life is so typical
You've let your head run wild again
Over and over again

He's not a pretty man, and you never can stomach something so absurd
Despite the hints, he went ahead and brought you to his world
He dropped the bomb with much aplomb, and you gently let him go
Then you tore apart his heart in your hands to let everybody know

Look at him, the sight is grim, and he's a taste you won't forget
Get over yourself, you stupid bitch
He's the best you'll ever get

I wonder why you're so critical
This petty life is so typical
You've let your head run wild again
Over and over again

Stick around me and you'll see that you can't skip out on my dreams before the night is over
Stick around me and you'll see you can't keep trading me in

He's got the charm, girls on each arm, and life that can't be beat
For a while there, you shared the flair as you bent down at his feet
Then suddenly, you changed everything when you heeded her advice
You never won, and now he's gone
You don't get those chances twice

You're missing out until he figures out everything he could've had
Get over yourself, you stupid bitch
He's the best you'll never have

I wonder why you're so critical
This petty life is so typical
You've let your head run wild again
Over and over again

Stick around me and you'll see that you can't skip out on my dreams before the night is over
Stick around me and you'll see you can't keep trading me in for the other voice inside your head
