Someday Hugs

"Someday I'll give you a great big hug..."
when we return to school from a summer apart
I'll wrap my arms around you for only
a minute before you pull away,
but I'll be wishing it will last forever.

"Someday I'll give you a great big hug..."
when I show up at your doorstep on prom night
with a corsage, and foolishly lean in for a kiss,
but get a hug instead; I'll be disappointed,
but I'll make every second count.

"Someday I'll give you a great big hug..."
even though you've said you never want to see me again
but you've been crying for hours
so I'll sneak over and snake my arms around you,
and hold you against me until your tears stop.

"Someday I'll give you a great big hug..."
after I stop the car on our way to college
because you're convulsing and shaking with nerves,
I'll open the car door, pull you close on the side of the highway,
and wait for your tiny body to stop shaking.

"Someday I'll give you a great big hug..."
after I get down on one knee and pour my heart out
and you agree to marry me
and move in with me and love me forever,
and I'll never let you go.

"Someday I'll give you a great big hug..."
when you flop down on the hotel bed
and I lift you up and spin you around
and tell you how I had everything planned out
since the moment that I met you.

"Someday I'll give you a great big hug..."
after I come home from work and trudge
upstairs and find that empty box
and then see the little pink '+' on the test,
then I'll rush to you and press you both against me.

"Someday I'll give you a great big hug..."
and I'll never let you go, but until then,
the idea of hugging you will have to be enough.

A/N: This is for the ones who long, wait, and dream about that one singular person they know they could be able to build a life with, even if now that person might not feel the same.

This is for the boy who jokes with the girl everyday, and leaves her wondering what he exactly he meant, what his intentions are, and if there is more behind his words that he is not saying, merely thinking.

This is for the girl who jokes with the boy everday, and is always wondering if there's something he's not telling her, if there's something that he sees in her, and if she's being too obvious.

This is for the ones who think they're just deluding themselves into seeing what they want.

...

Oh, if only we could read one another's minds, life would be so much simpler. As would love.

Enjoy! Review!
