Chapter 8

Running into the hall she looked around for her father. The music had stopped playing and everyone we're huddled around her father on the phone. She ran to her father, pushing past the people.

"Yes I understand. Good bye" her father said and hung up the phone.

"What is it? What happened to Tristan?" she asked hysterically.

"He's at the hospital..." he started. Her eyes filled with tears. "...he has a brain tumour."

"No. No! They took it out. They fixed it."

"It came back and the doctor's said that it's grown. He's had it since three months ago." She looked around the room and everyone looked at her sympathetically. She started breathing heavily.

"I want to see him."

"You can't. He's still in surgery. They're trying to get rid of it" he informed her.

"Why didn't he...tell me before it got worse? I could have helped. I could have stopped this" she muttered. "Stupid kid didn't want to make me worry" she whispered. Her father opened his arms and came towards her.

"It's ok honey." She backed away from him and held her hand up to him.

"Don't you honey me" she said.

"What is wrong with you?"

"What is wrong with me? What is wrong with you? You don't give a damn about Tristan and Me, so why are you being like this? Oh that's right I forgot you're reputation. You are using Tristan just like you do with me. You are using us just so you can get on the front of every newspaper. Well it looks like you got your wish. You'll be remembered as the worst father in the world!" she yelled at him and ran away, leaving him completely speechless. He eased into a chair and the reporters continued to take pictures.

Jordan sat on the grass with her legs crossed. She didn't care about her dress; she just sat staring into space as the tears that filled her eyes fell. Kyle appeared and sat down beside her in the same position she was in.

"Are you ok?" he asked.

"No."

"Do you want to tell me what that was all about?" She shook her head as her response. "Are you sure? I'm a good listener."

"I'm not going to apologise to him. I'm telling the truth. The moment my mother died, my dad became this different person. He spent every day in the office and when he came home he would always go in a different room from us. I promised myself that I would protect Tristan from anything. I did everything my father didn't. I was there when he cried at night from nightmares. I was there to hold his hand when he went into surgery..." She sniffed. "...I stayed by his side through it all. We used to cut through the zoo after piano lessons. Tristan always did love those giraffes." She placed her head on his shoulder and sighed. She stared into space and started to cry out. He gently rubbed her head to comfort her. It didn't seem to make everything better, so he wrapped his arms around her.

"It's ok. Just let it out. I'm here." She wrapped her arms around his waist and tugged tightly.

An hour later, Jordan and Kyle fell asleep together. Kyle lay on his back and Jordan had her head on his chest. They still clung to each other with their arms around each other. It wasn't long before their eyes fluttered open. Jordan looked up at Kyle and he looked down at her.

"Hi" she said.

"Hi" he mimicked her. She eased herself up off him a few inches.

"What time is it?" she asked.

"I don't know."

"I should go back to my room. I have to go the hospital tomorrow" she mumbled. She was trying to get up, but he pulled her back down. He reached up and gave her a quick kiss on her lips.

"Goodnight" he said. She smiled weakly at him and got up leaving Kyle still lying down. He sighed and sat up. It was hard at first, but he managed to get up. He had massive grass stains from where he lay with Jordan, but he didn't mind. He turned around and suddenly Jordan's lips crashed against his. He returned her kiss and shut his eyes. His hands were all over the place that he didn't know where to put them. She pulled away from him and looked him straight in the eyes. She smiled.

"What?" he asked.

"Goodnight" she replied and left.

"Oh come on you did that on purpose. You just going to leave me here like this?" he yelled from behind. "Jordan!" he called.

The next morning, Kyle woke up early to go see Jordan off. He made his way to the front entrance and looked around for her. Kyle's mother was walking through the halls at the time and noticed him.

"Kyle" she called and he turned around towards her. "What are you doing up so early?" she asked.

"I'm waiting for Jordan so I can see her before she goes to see Tristan" he replied.

"Oh sweetie she already left" she informed him.

"What?"

"Her dad caught up with her last night and agreed that he'd been a bad father, so he made it up to her by taking her to Tristan."

"But I didn't even get to say goodbye to her."

"Don't worry honey she'll come to see you, she loves you." He sighed and looked out of the open door. Meanwhile at the hospital Tristan was admitted to, Jordan sat next to his bedside. Tristan looked like he was sleeping peacefully. Her dad was standing near the window peering out. She looked at Tristan looking like she was about to burst into tears any minute.

"Hi Tristan it's me. Look at you, why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you tell me that you were sick?" she whispered to him. "Listen you have to hurry up and get better. When you get better we can go to the zoo and you can see the giraffes. We can also get those sugar dummies you like so much." Tears fell down her cheeks and her heart beat so fast it was hard to control her heavy breathing.

"I'll look after you like last time. Remember we have to stick together, you and me always, ok?" she sniffed. "Please don't go away. Don't leave me all alone. If you leave me...I won't have anyone to laugh with, to play jokes with and tell all my secrets to." She tried to stop crying, but she couldn't do it. Just seeing him lying there so still and pale, all she could do is cry.

"This is my fault. How could I not notice?" she blamed herself.

"It's not your fault" her father said. She looked up at him, but he didn't turn around. "When your mother died I cut myself off from you two. If I treated you more different and more like my children this wouldn't have happened. Every time I looked at you both, you remind me so much of your mother. Tristan has her cute baby face and you have her stubborn and annoying behaviour." He laughed a little. "Those two things were what I loved most about her. I'm sorry for being a bad father. I promise from now on I'll try and be the best dad I can be for you and Tristan." He sighed and finally turned around to look at her. She saw tears down his face. "If you don't want me to and you want to leave with Tristan I won't stop you."

"That's the problem. I want you to stop us." She walked over to him and wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him. He slowly put his arms around her and eventually hugged her back.

"Did I miss something?" a familiar voice asked. They looked towards Tristan and his eyes were wide open. A huge smile appeared on their faces and they both hugged him.

"I guess I did miss something" Tristan said and they all laughed.

A few days from being observed in the hospital and Tristan was finally ready to go home. The nurse pushed him in his wheelchair while Jordan and her father walked beside him.

"Are you ready to go home Tristan?" Jordan asked.

"Of course I'm ready. I can't wait to go home and play with dad" he replied happily. They both smiled happily at him. They made it outside to the car. The sun shone brightly on them. Jordan was about to pick him up, but her dad stopped her.

"Allow me" he said and swept Tristan up in his arms. He placed him in his seat and put the seatbelt around him, plugging it in. Jordan made her way to the other side of the car and hopped in next to him. Her dad sat in the front next to Eric and they finally took off. The car pulled out and out of the hospital car park. Tristan opened the window and the wind blew his hair all over the place. Jordan smiled at him and grabbed onto his hand, gripping it firmly. Everything was perfect to them, finally becoming a family again.

Four months later...

Kyle was sat in the canteen staring at his food. Louise and Cole watched from a distance.

"Look at him, it's been four months and she still hasn't come to see him" Louise moaned.

"Maybe she's not ready to see him" Cole guessed.

"If he were my boyfriend I wouldn't treat him like that."

"I thought you weren't going to be jealous anymore."

"I'm not. I just feel sorry for him. Besides why would I be jealous? I have a perfect boyfriend right in front of me." He smiled at her.

"Hi guys" Kyle said. They both turned and noticed him standing in front of them.

"Hey you must be feeling really bad that Jordan hasn't come to..." Suddenly Cole elbowed her in the side to interrupt her.

"Cole it's ok. I'm fine" he reassured them.

"Are you sure?" Louise inquired.

"Louise" he warned her.

"I'm fine honestly I just need to go take a walk" he said and left the canteen with his hands in his pockets.

He walked along one of the halls and noticed his Mum at the other end. He stopped right in front of her.

"Hi" his Mum said.

"Hi" he mimicked.

"How are you doing?"

"How do you think I'm doing? I've seen her for four months" he muttered.

"You know you're father used to say that if you want something badly enough you have to go get it and not wait for it to come to you."

"Was my father always that cheesy?" he asked.

"He was with me especially when he wanted to..."

"Gross Mum" he interrupted before she could finish.

"All I'm saying is if you want to see her go find her" she advised. He thought for a moment when a sudden smile appeared across his face.

"You're right. I'm going to go find her. Thanks Mum" he said and ran down the hall as fast as he could go.

After a few bus rides Kyle finally made it to Jordan's front door. He knocked lightly and waited for someone to answer. Lucky for him, Jordan opened the door and looked up at him. Her mouth dropped.

"Kyle?"

"Hey" he said as he let out a little laugh.

"What are you doing here?" she asked.

"I came to see you" he replied.

"Oh."

"Is oh all you can say? Come on Jordan don't tell me you've forgotten about me it's only been four months."

"Listen about that..." she started.

"I understand" he interrupted.

"You do?"

"Yes you needed time with yourself before you can move on from Tristan..."

"Tristan is fine. He's been home a while now" she interrupted.

"Oh...well that's good. Well I'm... going to go." It was no surprise that they were awkward around each other. They also started nodding a lot like those bobbing heads.

"You're going back to your mother?" she inquired.

"Uh no actually, I've checked into a hotel not far from here. Thought I'd stay for a bit" he replied.

"I see. That's good."

"I guess I'll talk to you later."

"Sure."

"Ok...bye" he said as he waved at her.

"Bye" she said and closed the door. Kyle turned around, but hesitated to take another step further away from her front porch. He sighed and turned back around. Slowly moving his hand that was balled up into a fist, he knocked on once again. Jordan opened the door again.

"Ok I guess I don't understand" he blurted out.

"What?" she questioned.

"I haven't seen you for four months, four very long months. I mean you didn't even have the decency to visit me!" he said raising his voice. "You didn't call me, you didn't visit and you didn't even write to me" he informed with what she already knew.

"Ok nobody writes to people anymore" she joked.

"Could you please not do jokes right now?" he said through gritted teeth. She raised her hands up in defence.

"You know you're unbelievable. I didn't know how you were, I didn't know how you're brother was. I'd understand if you're brother died, but he's not dead. So tell me what in the hell was you doing all this time?" he yelled.

"I was getting my brother settled" she yelled back.

"For four months?" he yelled at the top of his lungs.

"I swear to god that if you say four months one more time I'm going to rip your tongue out, so you won't be able to say it ever again!"

"It won't do any good. I'll just mumble it."

"Oh my god will you grow up! You're acting like a child" she screamed at him.

"I'm not acting like a child. I'm so mature. If there was a competition between me and you who is more mature then I would win."

"That doesn't make any sense!"

"You know I don't know why I even came here" he said questioning himself.

"Who wanted you here?"

"Fine, forget the hotel; forget that I even came here in the first place. I'll just go back to my mother."

"Fine" she yelled.

"Good!"

"Great!"

"Fantastic!" She suddenly slammed the door shut in his face. He sighed and knocked even harder than the last two times. The door swung open angrily.

"What now?" she asked. Suddenly he grabbed her and kissed her. She didn't even hesitate to join in the kiss. She allowed his tongue to slide deep inside her mouth. Their arms made their way around each other and became so close to each other they'd have to peel each other apart with a crowbar. It was amazing that Kyle could pull away, but he did and left Jordan wanting more. They looked at each other out of breath, which wasn't surprising by their fighting and kissing.

"I missed you" he admitted. "I missed you so much I thought my heart was going to burst." A slight smile appeared across her face.

"God I hate your annoying and stubborn behaviour..." he blurted out. She gave him an annoyed look, raising an eyebrow. "...BUT... I'd rather fight with you than anyone else" he added and again the slight smile appeared on her face. Tears have built up in her eyes and looked like they could fall any minute. "Please don't make me go back to my mother. I promise I'll let you do anything. I'll let you shove food in my face; I'll let you paint my wall as girly as you want it to be; I'll let you leave the light on all night; I'll let you put a million spiders on me; I'll even..." She suddenly interrupted him with her kiss. They parted from each other and looked at each other lovingly.

"I missed you too" she admitted. He smiled at her and leaned in to kiss her again, but stopped halfway.

"Just so you know, I was kidding about the last one. You wouldn't really put a million spiders on me would you?" She let out a little laugh.

"It depends on whether you behave or not" she replied. He smiled and moved closer to her. They were inches apart from each other. She wrapped her arms around his neck and his hands were placed on her waist.

"I love you" he whispered before kissing her again.

The end
