Helmet Of Salvation: GODLINESS

Breastplate Of Righteousness: Neither Useless Nor Unfruitful

Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith, supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self control, and in your self control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:5-8

Every Christian makes resolutions each year to grow closer to God, to study the Bible more, to go to church more, to become more involved, or other things pertaining to practices of Christianity… but this passage of Scripture says to me that in order for us to truly grow closer to God, we need to be putting into practice these godly qualities.

Of course, we ought to always strive to do the practical parts of our system of faith, as well, always growing more diligently in them, but as a result of growing closer to Christ and becoming more knowledgeable in Him.

As a believer in Christ, He has already implanted His Spirit inside of us for assistance in perfecting our own, for the rest of our lives. (We will not accomplish all that our spirit is capable of being on this side of Heaven), but we CAN put each and all of these qualities into our nature and make them our own qualities. If we could not, God's Word would not instruct us to do it.

So many times, people, even believers adopt attitudes that we cannot change certain areas of our personalities - moral corruption, ignorance, lack of control, quitting, ungodliness, cruelty to others, and hatred. Some of us think that we can not get rid of our tempers. Some of us think that we can not get rid of jealousy, or bitterness, or something else that corrodes our spirits and grieves the Holy Spirit within us… But we do not have to be the terrible people that we are. We make the choice to be the people that we are.

Christ has given us the ability to become like Him, little by little. If I have a problem mastering this list, why don't I just start out with moral excellence. Do the things that I know to be moral. Sometimes, I might fail, but if Christ is in me, more often than not… I shouldn't fail at being a woman of morals. While I'm working on that, I need to work on my knowledge. I need to study my Word and meditate on it, as to help me for my current mission of moral excellence, and my next mission of self control…

As time goes on, as I increase my knowledge, I also will be feeding my spirit, and becoming more and more of the things that the Spirit is molding me to become, I can eventually look over this list and honestly say "Yep, that's me." And at that time, my life will have become useful and fruitful in the Lord.

SWORD OF THE SPIRIT:

Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith, supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self control, and in your self control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:5-8

Blessing to enjoy: I can be useful and fruitful in the true knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Girdle of truth: Implement an organized Bible study schedule (right now I'm currently switching it up on different days and not as organized in deed as I am when I plan it out, on paper.) Work it the way that I put it in my planner!

Shield of faith: It is my choice to exhibit the qualities of Christ and I must not only exhibit them, but increase them as time goes on.

Sandals of peace: Heavenly Father, Father of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I pray that You will remove my characteristics from me and fill me up with those listed in Your Word as the fruit of Your Spirit. Please empty me out of the filth that is my human nature and give me Your spiritual nature in my day to day life, from now on. Thank You Lord! I claim these fruits for my spirit and I relinquish my will to Yours, that You may grant me these things that I know it is Your will for me to possess. In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.
