EPILOGUE
It'd've been perfect. If Zac didn't live in Arizona. I miss him so much.
Back to school. 12th Grade. Senior Year.
Amethyst Stone was classmates with Scarlett Rose and Heather Hopkins. Thank goodness.
10 minutes to go before class starts.
Heather was texting. Amethyst was playing with her pen, her chin resting on her hand, bored. She watched as her friend, Scarlett, talked to Michael Davis, AKA Macho Mike. That's been going on a lot lately; there isn't anything exciting anymore, Amethyst thought.
She was proven wrong at that very instant. Mike kissed Scarlett on the cheek, and headed back to his class. Amethyst's eyes widened and her eyes met Heather's, who, for sure, saw that as well.
The first bell rang. Hey, they had 5 more minutes. Amethyst and Heather hovered over to Scarlett's desk.
"Spill," they commanded.
Scarlett was scarlet. "Well... right I told you guys he asked me out before we went to the beach? And I turned him down? Well... he waited for me..."
Before Heather and Amethyst could jump happily for their friend, the teacher came.
And he talked about college.
It was break time.
"So, what're you guys planning to take in college?" Amethyst asked her best friends.
"Fashion designing," Heather said instantly. "Or maybe cooking..."
"Medicine," Scarlett said.
"I want Digital Art and Design..." Amethyst said.
"What's with all the college talk all of a sudden?" Heather asked.
"Nah, I was just thinking it's good that we're decided. I mean, I'm starting to feel so old. I mean, we're seniors. We'll be in college soon..."
"How about Zac? Do you have any idea where he's going in life?"
"He'll take up Business Management," Amethyst said. "After all, it's the family business." She paused. "He's so far away..."
"I know how you feel! It's been a while since I've seen Keith..."
"How about Austin, Scarlett? Or is it all about Macho Mike now?" Amethyst asked.
"Hm... I dunno... Austin was okay... it just sort of... stopped when we left. And Mike... he's very sweet."
"At least he's close..." Amethyst murmured.
Amethyst wanted to see Zac. It's been soooo long.
But she couldn't. Not that easily. And it sucked.
They'd talk on the phone sometimes, but really, that won't always be enough.
She couldn't sleep. She decided to listen to her iPod. She put it on shuffle.
Saltwater Room. Owl City.
Time together isn't ever quite enough
When we're apart whatever are you thinking of?
What will it take to make or break this hint of love?
So tell me darling, do you wish we'd fall in love?
All the time
Graduation. After all the formal stuffs.
"You traitor!" Scarlett and Amethyst shrieked at Heather.
"Sorry, you guys..."
Amethyst and Scarlett were going to the University of California. They just found out Heather wasn't. She was going to another college with Keith.
Zac missed Amethyst. So much. When he closes his eyes, he can see her smile.
He couldn't sleep. He decided to listen to his iPod. He put it on shuffle.
Always Be My Baby. David Cook.
You'll always be a part of me
I'm part of you indefinitely
Girl don't you know you can't escape me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby
And we'll linger on
Time can't erase a feeling this strong
No way you're never gonna shake me
Ooh darling cause you'll always be my baby
First day of college. University of California.
Amethyst and Scarlett walked into the main hall.
Amethyst's phone rang. "Hello?"
And the voice she heard make her heart skip a beat, and then it ached with longing. "Look behind you."
She did. And he was there.
