Kyle and Jayden
Undying Love 2: Forever Yours
Kyle Marks was on his way home from the store when he saw the police outside of the apartment he shared with Jayden Harris, his current boyfriend and only love. He choked on his air as his heart began to race, fear consuming him as he stopped the car and quickly got out of it, leaving the groceries in the vehicle as he jogged toward his front door and threw it open. Two police officers were talking to Jayden on the couch. Jayden spared him a glance with warm brown eyes and immediately Kyle felt himself relax, if only slightly. Jayden often had that effect on him.
"What's going on?" he asked as he walked further into the room, not taking his eyes off of his love on the couch. The police officers stood and faced him.
"There was a robbery in the apartment next to yours and it got violent. Gunshots were fired," one of them began explaining. They continued speaking but already, Kyle was sending Jayden a worried look, searching for further injuries to him. Jayden had just gotten out of the hospital three weeks ago, for crying out loud! How much did he have to take?
"Are you okay?" he asked, moving around the officers so he could sit on the couch next to Jayden. He didn't care if they were looking or what they thought--he just wanted…no, he needed to know if Jayden was all right. That was all that mattered to him. He grabbed Jayden's shoulder tightly, as though trying to release some of the tension that was already threading through him.
Jayden nodded, smiling. "I'm fine, they were just questioning me, asking if I heard anything or saw anything."
"Did you?" Kyle asked, frowning slightly as he gazed into Jayden's eyes.
Jayden shrugged slowly. "Not really. I mean I heard the gunshots but that's it."
"I'm sorry I left," Kyle said, feeling guilty. He had thought Jayden would have been safe at the apartment and that was all he wanted--he just wanted his love to be safe. But apparently, even the apartment wasn't safe. From now on, he vowed to never leave Jayden's side, for anything. He would take Jayden with him wherever he went because he couldn't stand the thought of losing him.
"It's okay," Jayden said before he glanced at the officers. Kyle frowned at them, having forgotten for a moment that they were even there. "That's all I know."
The officers nodded. "We'll call tomorrow sometime and talk again," they said before they took their leave. Kyle was relieved as he heard them close the door behind them.
Then he turned to face Jayden again. He moved his head forward a little and pressed his lips to Jayden's, relishing in the feel. "I love you," he murmured, cupping Jayden's face in his hands.
"Love you too," Jayden replied, kissing him again. Then he stood and pulled away from Kyle. Kyle frowned up at him, scowling. "I have to take my pills."
"There's pain?" Kyle asked, his brows knitting together in worry as he stood with Jayden and followed him into the kitchen. "Where? How bad?"
"I'm fine, calm down," Jayden told him with a faint chuckle. "It's just a little twinge and it's time to take it anyway. I'm okay, Kyle, really."
Kyle nodded slowly. "Okay, just…" He shook his head. How could he explain to Jayden that he was always going to be worried? He had come so close to losing him and that simply couldn't happen. Jayden didn't know what Kyle had felt as he went to the morgue, thinking he was going to find Jayden's dead body waiting for him beneath a white sheet on a cold table. He didn't know what was running through Kyle's head, all those words he was never able to say, all those times they were never able to share.
He didn't know. Kyle was glad of that fact because he didn't ever want Jayden to have to go through what he went through, what he was still going through. He shuddered at the thought and then frowned when he noticed Jayden's eyes on him.
"You all right, Ky?" Jayden asked worriedly, moving toward him. Kyle grabbed him and tugged him into his chest, wrapping his arms around him as though to keep him safe from everything, even the air around them. Jayden pulled back slightly, frowning up at him. "Ky? Kyle? You okay? What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I'm fine," Kyle said, shaking his head. "Just…I'll be in the bedroom. Take your pills." He stepped away from Jayden and left the room before Jayden could ask anything.
Jayden sighed as he watched Kyle leave the room. It wasn't as though he didn't know what Kyle was going through. True, he didn't understand the true feelings behind it because it hadn't happened to him, but he knew Kyle. Kyle was never this friendly toward him, even though they were living together. He was always somewhat guarded and quiet. Now he was always there, watching Jayden when he woke or hurrying to open the door for him. Jayden didn't mind Kyle being there--really, he didn't--but it was starting to freak him out.
He wasn't used to Kyle being there all the time. He felt like he needed his space because he was being smothered. Of course, he knew he couldn't say anything. Kyle was just worried. He had nearly watched Jayden die and Jayden understood that, he did. But Kyle had become vastly over protective and possessive, more so than before, and Jayden wasn't quite sure what to make of it. He wasn't used to seeing this side of him, for any reason.
He took his pills and then left the kitchen, entering their shared bedroom. He smiled faintly at Kyle, who was waiting for him. Kyle was sitting up on the bed, his hands clasped in front of him as he bent forward slightly, his dark eyes focused on Jayden. Jayden made his way toward the bed and sat next to him.
"You wanna tell me what's on your mind?" Jayden asked quietly, giving Kyle a small look. He was worried about him just as Kyle was worried about Jayden. All of Kyle's constant concern for him was worrying.
"I'm okay," Kyle told him. "How do you feel?"
"I'm fine," Jayden said with a sigh. "Stop changing the subject. Something's bothering you--what is it?"
Kyle sighed heavily and shook his head. "It's nothing. It's fine. Maybe you should rest?"
Jayden shook his head. "I'm not tired."
"Seriously, I'm fine. What's going on with you lately? You're not acting like yourself," Jayden told him truthfully. "It's starting to worry me."
"How am I not acting like myself?" Kyle asked, frowning at him slightly.
Jayden frowned. Had he really not noticed the change? That was strange. Usually Kyle noticed everything--like what mood Jayden was in, what he was hungry for, when he was hurting…everything about him, really. Why was that? It hadn't been until recently that it had happened. Since the accident, really. "You're too…" He shrugged, sighing. "I don't know, Kyle. You're just…not yourself."
"You're…always there," Jayden said quietly. "You didn't used to be but now you are. And that's fine, it's just…it doesn't seem like you. And you're always watching me. You've never done that before. You're always worried even though I don't know why. I don't know…it just seems like you're different and I don't…know what to say."
Kyle released a slow breath. "I'm sorry…"
"Sorry?" Jayden asked, confused.
"I'm sorry for…not changing sooner."
"What? Ky--" Jayden started, ready to tell him that it wasn't what he meant.
Kyle cut him off. "Jay…" He sighed heavily and shook his head, averting his gaze for a moment before he looked back to Jayden. "I should have…been paying attention to you all along."
"What?" Jayden asked, frowning, because this wasn't what he had intended. "What are you talking about?"
"I should have been here all along. I'm sorry."
"Kyle, it's okay, what are you--"
"I should have been noticing you all along but I didn't," Kyle said quietly, watching Jayden as usual. Jayden shook his head, overly confused but Kyle didn't let him speak just yet as he continued. "I didn't and I'm sorry, Jay. I'm sorry that it…took me almost…losing you before I realized…what you meant to me."
What could Jayden possibly say to that? His heart raced and his throat constricted, refusing to allow him to breathe properly. "Kyle…" he managed to whisper.
"You don't have to say anything," Kyle said, "I already know I'm a horrible person for not noticing it sooner. I'm so sorry, Jay."
Jayden shook his head. "Kyle, that's not…you idiot, you didn't have to start doing all of this to show you care. I already knew."
Kyle shook his head. "It's more than that…" He took in a small breath and let it out slowly before he shook his head again, as though cutting himself off before he could speak.
"What do you mean?" Jayden asked, resting his head on Kyle's shoulder as though trying to offer him a bit of comfort. "How is it more?"
Kyle wrapped an arm around him and tugged him closer. Jayden obliged and curled his body around Kyle. "I love you," Kyle murmured, kissing the top of his head.
Jayden smiled slowly and grabbed Kyle's hand. "Love you too, Ky. Always."
"I…I'm scared, I guess," Kyle started, his voice low and quiet, barely audible.
"What? Why?" Jayden asked, confused as he lifted his head to stare at Kyle. Kyle's gaze was locked on the ground and Jayden wished he could remove the lost look from his eyes. "Why are you scared, Ky?"
"I…What if something happens to you?" Kyle asked.
"Nothing is going to happen to me," Jayden said. "That's ridiculous."
"Just like you getting in a wreck is ridiculous?" Kyle asked, giving him a look that shut Jayden up. "You could have died, Jay! Hell, you almost did! I had to drive to the morgue, thinking I was going to ID your body! Do you know what that was like for me?"
Jayden swallowed and shook his head as he gripped Kyle's shoulder. "No, I don't. I'm sorry…"
"Don't be sorry," Kyle said with a sigh. "I'm glad you don't know. It was horrible, Jay…"
It really was horrible, thinking he was driving to find Jayden's empty shell instead of the person he loved with all of his heart. He had kept thinking how unfair it was that Jayden was to be taken away like this, so suddenly. There had been so much he hadn't said or done and so much he had wanted to do. Those thoughts just kept racing through his mind and he had barely been able to concentrate.
Thankfully, though, it hadn't been Jayden. Jayden had been at the hospital and Kyle had driven there afterward, hoping to find his love in one piece. When Jayden had finally woken up, it had been the happiest moment of Kyle's life because suddenly he knew. He knew what Jayden meant to him, what he was to him and what he would always be. Jayden was everything to him--he was Kyle's life.
And as it was, a drunk driver had nearly stolen him away. An autopsy had revealed that the man that had been killed in the crash had been highly intoxicated, probably driving home from some party only to crash into Jayden and nearly steal him from Kyle forever.
But why had it taken so long for Kyle to fully realize? It had been the fear of losing him that had jogged it into Kyle's memory forever.
Kyle shook the thoughts away and focused on Jayden, as always. He grabbed Jayden and pulled him close again, gently kissing his lips before the two of the parted slightly. He kept a firm grip on Jayden's arms, refusing to release him just yet.
"I was scared…I thought I was going to lose you…" he murmured slowly.
"You won't lose me," Jayden tried to tell him, as he had done a thousand times before. But unlike before, now Kyle knew it was possible. It was possible for Jayden to be killed just like everyone else and suddenly it was all too real. What if some other disaster tried to take Jayden away? What would Kyle do then? He was beyond scared at this point--he was terrified.
"But I might…I could," Kyle said, wishing Jayden would understand what kind of an impact this was having on him. It hurt to know that he could lose Jayden at any given moment. How could he get Jayden to understand?
"You won't," Jayden said, kissing his cheek. "I'm not going anywhere and you're not getting rid of me. If that crash couldn't take me out, nothing can."
Kyle swallowed, flinching slightly. The crash had been horrible and had nearly stolen Jayden away. It still hurt to think about it but the feel of Jayden's warm arms around him was oddly reassuring and relaxing. He smiled lovingly at Jayden and murmured, "I'm glad you're okay."
"Good, 'cause I'm not so bothered by it myself," Jayden said with a small smile, trying to lighten the mood like always.
What would Kyle do without him? He pressed his lips to Jayden's and felt his love return the kiss in kind. Tangling a hand in Jayden's hair, he pulled the smaller man toward him and bit down slightly on his lower lip. "I love you…"
"Love you too, Ky," Jayden said in response.
Kyle smiled and all but tossed Jayden onto the bed before crawling on top of him. Jayden grinned and Kyle felt like everything was right again. He had Jayden here with him and things seemed as they had been before, except for the images seared into Kyle's brain. He flinched and Jayden frowned, his carefree look easily slipping away from his face. He pulled Kyle down toward him and their lips met like magnets.
"Get this through your head, Kyle," Jayden said to him. "I-" Kiss "am not-" Kiss "going-" Kiss "anywhere." Kiss.
Kyle smiled and slid a hand under Jayden's shirt. "Promise?" he asked, feeling the slight bandaging that was still covering his love's torso, constantly reminding him how close he had come to being all alone.
"I promise," Jayden breathed, and the two connected again.
Thanks for reading. I hope, if this is your kind of thing, that you enjoyed it and I'm sorry I didn't include more yaoi scenes like people wanted. I got sidetracked with other stories and so this was on hold for a while and I decided to just finish it and let you decide for yourself how it ends. I might make a third one for these two because the characters amuse me, but I dunno yet. Let me know! Please R&R! Reviews are love and love is great!
