There was a passage in my NaNoWriMo that I really liked, so I decided to make it into a poem. The poem is first, and below it is the original version.

POEM FORM:

Silent house, relaxed and still.
Breathing evenly in darkness
that hangs like mist around me.
Its night-fingers tickle my face.

Humming soft hymns as I
drift into a not-sleep.
Awake, but unconscious
to the world about me.

Melody playing in my mind,
a soft piano lullaby.
Only I inhabit this earth.

Dancing in the grassy fields of thought,
smelling the sweet scent
of a poem freshly written.

Calming yellow skies
of cotton candy clouds
rain down words in droplets.
Each contain a story.

Splashing in puddles of prose
as letters swirl about me.

Words, words, words,
my greatest friends.
Take me away
to a world of make-believe.

PROSE FORM:

I lay awake in the silent house, body relaxed and breathing even. The darkness hung in the air like mist, caressing my cheek with its night-fingers. It tickled my exposed skin and I giggled silently to myself. I hummed a hymn softly as I fell into a not-sleep. I was awake but I was unthinking. A melody played in my head, a soft piano lullaby. For that time, I was the only one on the earth. I danced in the grass-covered fields of my mind, smelled the sweet scent of a poem freshly written. The sky was a calming yellow as cotton candy clouds drifted above me. The clouds rained down words in droplets, each containing a story. I splashed in the puddles of prose as letters swirled about me. Words, words, words, my greatest friends, take me away to a world of make-believe!
